Dottie Amtey Has Been Accused Of Strangling her 77-Year-Old Husband To Death

CARY, NC — Police have charged 61-year-old Dottie Amtey with murder after they say she strangled her 77-year-old husband to death.
Police were dispatched to the home of Dottie and Shared after an unidentified woman called 911 Wednesday night. When police arrived at the home, they found Shared unconscious in an upstairs bedroom with someone on the phone with 911 trying to perform CPR in an unsuccessful attempt to revive him.
Police initially said Dottie would be charged with first-degree murder, but the Wake County District Attorney’s Office is considering charging her with second-degree murder.
The couple had been married for over 30 years and had five children together. Dottie was recently employed at UCB Pharma, and Shared was a research physicist, with career stops at universities and a massive government research project.
Cary officials say this is the first homicide they’ve had in their town in nearly two years.
While no motive has been released, there’s enough information in this article regarding the couple that makes it easy to speculate that this was probably some kind of mercy killing, and could also explain why prosecutors are considering the lesser murder charge.…

Seattle, WA – Maurecio Bell, 42, was strangled to death in a drunken mishap on a King County Metro escalator at University Street Station.
Early Sunday morning, Bell was was found unconscious and unresponsive at the bottom of the escalator after his clothing got snagged and he was subsequently choked to death.
Surveillance video was reviewed and showed Bell, with an open bottle of brandy in his back pocket, staggering and then leaning against the escalator wall as he was riding it down. Near the bottom he loses his balance and falls on his back. Bell made no effort to get up until he got to the bottom, but by that time, it was too late.
Bell can be seen trying to sit up only to find the back of his shirt had gotten caught in the escalator. He is pulled back down and remained that way until he was discovered by a passerby who shut off the escalator and tried to revive him by performing CPR.
“It’s an unfortunate and tragic accident, and we’ve never seen anything like it before,” said King County Metro spokesman Jeff Switzer.…

St-Louis, MO - Police say 2-year-old Mason Gorse died on Monday after he got caught in the cord of window blinds in his bedroom.
Apparently, Gorse was in his bedroom when he climbed on to his window sill and got caught in the nylon cord of the blinds. His mother found him hanging from his neck, several feet off the ground. A family member performed CPR on Gorse until paramedics arrived, but the boy was pronounced dead at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
Homicide detectives investigated, but said the death appears to be a tragic accident.
For any of you not aware, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that since 1991, more than 175 infants and children have died after accidentally strangling in window blind cords. According to Parents for Window Blind Safety, 546 children have been strangled by window blind cords since 1983.
Look, I was far from the perfect parent, and I seriously doubt you could completely prep your home to the point that a 2-year-old couldn’t find some way to accidentally kill themselves.…

West Lafayette, IN – It’s been two years since we first reported on Jonathan Noe, the man charged with beating his girlfriend with a Shake Weight. On Monday, he was sentenced to four years behind bars.
On November 9, 2011, Noe’s girlfriend called police to report he had beaten the shit out of her with a Shake Weight. When police arrived at the her home, she reportedly told them Noe violated a protective order she filed in June of that year when he showed up at her place after a party and indicated how unhappy he was with her.
He then proceeded to show her how unhappy he was by knocking her around, kicking her, choking her and beating the crap out of her with a Shake Weight. Police say both of the woman’s eyes were swollen shut, her mouth was swollen enough to make speaking difficult, and four of her teeth were knocked loose and pushed back toward her throat.
Medical documents revealed the woman suffered from a subdural hematoma to the head, a fracture of the right orbital bone, a broken nose, multiple contusions, extensive facial injuries, a concussion, loss of consciousness and blowout fracture of facial bones.…

Fairfield, CA – Slow news day today. Aside from that nut in the bunker getting himself dead, I couldn’t really find anything I felt like writing up. But I did find one story out of California that doesn’t seem to be getting covered by the major news outlets, and that’s the death of 13-year-old Genelle Conway Allen.
Genelle was in foster care and reported missing on Thursday after she didn’t return home from Green Valley Middle School. On Friday, her nude body was found lying face down on a cement median in Allan Witt Park.
“I got closer and closer. And the closer I got to her, the more it became real. And then I got right up to her, and I realized that was a human body,” said Eric May who initially thought Genelle’s body was a mannequin. “I tried to wake her up. I did. Absolutely. Look, I got three layers of clothes on. I know how to survive the cold. I was ready to take my outer clothes off and give it to her.”
There aren’t a lot of details, but reports are that Genelle was strangled. Investigators stated they won’t announce whether the teen was sexually assaulted for another six weeks.…

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — Police say a man broke into his estranged wife’s home and murdered his two youngest sons as their mother pleaded for him to stop. Before he killed himself, the man told the mother he was letting her live so she would have to suffer the loss of her children.
Victoria Zavala said that at around 2 a.m. Saturday she heard a commotion in her home and went to investigate. In the kitchen she found her husband, 45-year-old Isidro Zavala, dressed in black and strangling one of the couple’s teen sons with a rope.
Victoria begged Isidro to kill her instead, but Isidro told her he wanted her to suffer the loss of her two sons — 12-year-old Eduardo and 11-year-old Mario – before he shot himself once in the chest and then once in the head.
Police responding to Victoria’s call to 911 would find Isidro and his two sons dead at the scene. One child was found on the back patio and the other in the kitchen dining area.…

Orlando, FL — A man in Florida has been arrested after police say he assaulted his fiancee and tried forcing her engagement ring down her throat.
On Sunday, police responded to a Florida Walmart after a woman there called to report she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend of four years.
The woman told police that her boyfriend, 29-year-old Faron Thompson, got into an argument after she informed him she wanted to move out. In response, Thompson allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s engagement ring and tried shoving it down her throat.
She also said that he shoved her against a wall as she held their 1-year-old baby and covered her face with his hands to keep her from breathing. When he threatened to burn down the house, she called him a psycho and he shoved her and their baby out the front door. That’s when she called police and arranged to meet a deputy at a nearby Walmart.
Police located Thompson and charged him with battery via strangulation and child neglect.…

JOLIET, IL – Police say that three of the four young adults charged with the strangulation and attempted dismemberment of two men were found playing video games in the home where the victims’ bodies were found.
“This is one of the most brutal, heinous and upsetting things I’ve ever seen in my 27 years of law enforcement,” Police Chief Mike Trafton said. “Not only the crime scene, but the disregard for common decency toward human beings.”
On Thursday, Eric Glover and Terrance Rankins, both 22, were found strangled in a home after police received a call informing them that they may find two dead guys inside. The caller wasn’t lying, as police found Glover and Rankins dead when they entered the home, as well as evidence that someone tried dismembering their bodies.
Police also found 19-year-old Adam Landerman, 18-year-old Alisa Massaro and 24-year-old Joshua Miner inside the home. The trio were very much alive and were playing video games. According to Trafton, they were “very much surprised” when police walked in on them.…

Portland, OR — There is certainly no shortage of domestic assault stories here at the Dreamin’ Demon, and while domestic violence is no laughing matter, the “weapons” some of the alleged abusers use make me giggle. A little.
Caleb “Damn, he’d be really fucking hot if he lost some of that excess hair” Grotberg, 32, was recently booked on a laundry list of charges after allegedly strangling his girlfriend with his dreadlocks.
Police were called to the couple’s home early Monday morning, where they learned from the girlfriend that Grotberg had assaulted her and attempted to strangle her with his hair after the two argued.
Grotberg was not at the scene when officers arrived, but was quickly picked up after the victim described his ‘do.
He’s now behind bars, facing domestic violence-related charges that include kidnapping, attempted assault, assault, menacing and strangulation.
The woman was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment to numerous injuries, none of which were considered life-threatening.

Lakeland, FL — Police have charged 14-year-old Cassidy Goodson with first-degree murder after she gave birth to a full-term baby boy and then proceeded to choke him to death.
Three days after deputies had been called to Lakeland Regional Medical Center on a report of Cassidy being treated for a miscarriage, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the girl’s mother after she made a gruesome discovery in her daughter’s room.
Teresa Goodson had been collecting dirty laundry when she smelled something bad coming from Cassidy’s room. Upon investigating, she found a shoebox with a dead baby inside. Homicide detectives arrived at the home and interviewed Cassidy, who showed little emotion while explaining why she a dead baby in her room rotting in a shoebox.
The ninth- grader at Kathleen High School told them that she had been hiding her pregnancy for months, and on the morning of Sept. 19, she went into labor in the bathroom. After using a pair of scissors to try and pry the baby out, she finally gave birth to a 9.5-pound, 20.4-inch baby boy.…

STURGEON BAY, WI -- An Illinois man has been charged with choking his pregnant ex-girlfriend to death, then having sex with her dead body.
Last month, 35-year-old Brian Cooper was staying with 22-year-old Alisha Bromfield, who was 6½ months pregnant with another man’s baby, at the Door County resort in Wisconsin. They were at the hotel to attend the wedding of Bromfield’s sister.
After the wedding, the two got into an argument over the fact that Bromfield wanted to end their relationship. Bromfield fell asleep, and Cooper started drinking and becoming increasingly angry over the breakup and how cold and indifferent he felt Bromfield was acting.
According to the criminal complaint, Cooper said he “didn’t want to go home single,” so he decided to stay in Wisconsin as a murdering, corpse raper.
Prosecutors say that at 2 or 3 in the morning, after watching Bromfield sleep for about two and a half hours, Cooper got on top of Bromfield and used his bare hands to choke her. Court papers revealed Bromfield pleaded for her life and the life of her unborn child.…

EVANSVILLE, IN – Here’s a story out of Indiana, involving some teens charged with murder, that could really be made into one of those “based on a true story” movies like Bully or River’s Edge.
On Friday, police arrested William Hurt, 18, Deadra Hurt, 19, Harley Wade, 16, and Andrea Hurt, 16. They have all been accused of murdering a homeless man, Marcus E. Golike, 54, and then dumping his body into the Ohio river.
All four teens lived with Debbie Hurt, a woman who runs a foster care home and brings in troubled juveniles. Deadra Hurt was her biological daughter, but Debbie had adopted William and Andrea Hurt. Debbie had let Harley move into the home within the last month, and just from reading the articles and comments about him, he is one messed up kid.
The victim was known to Debbie and the teens because Marcus’ mother was Debbie’s foster mother. Even though they were not biological siblings, Debbie and Marcus considered themselves brother and sister.…

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA – A man has been charged with attempted murder after he tried to strangle his 3-month-old baby to death in a Walmart parking lot.
Daniel Graf, 32, was at the Walmart on Friday night to meet his estranged wife and visit his daughter. The couple eventually got into an argument over custody arrangements that led to Graf’s wife calling police.
Graf got angry with the responding officer and began walking away with his daughter. Graf then threatened to kill the baby and began strangling her. Realizing the infant was in danger, the officer decided to show Graf the proper way to choke the life out of someone by placing him in a carotid restraint control hold.
“It’s a tactic where the officer applies pressure to both sides of the carotid artery on the neck that will render and individual briefly unconscious,” said Jon Kempf from Citrus Heights Police.
What Kempf is trying to say is that the officer placed Graf in the Sleeper hold, an effective choke-hold I liked to employ on my ex-wife during sex, and before her lawyers got involved.…

Casselberry, FL – We last reported on Nioshka Bello after she was accused of strangling her 2-year-old daughter with her bra. On Wednesday, she was sentenced to life in prison.
Back in 2009, 24-year-old Bello and her daughter, Janessa Sandoval (cute kid), were living in a home with her mother and stepfather. They were moving out the next day and Bello was not going with them. She attempted to get back with her daughter’s father but an argument ensued when he refused to take her back.
Jobless and possibly homeless, Bello decided she could fix the situation by killing herself and her daughter. After taking Benadryl and Tylenol, Bello took off her bra and used it to strangle her daughter who was sleeping on the bed they shared.
A few days after being taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder, Bello was found incompetent to stand trial and admitted into a state mental hospital where she once again tried killing herself, and once again failed. This was not out of the ordinary, really, as Bello has a history of failed suicide attempts dating back to when she was 15-years-old.…

MONROE, Wash. – Last year we reported on the heinous murder of Jayme Biendl, the 34-year-old prison guard at the Monroe Correctional Complex, who was murdered in the prison chapel by inmate Byron Scherf. His videotaped confession has been made public, one in which he explains why and how he killed Biendl.
Scherf was serving a life sentence for rape and assault when he was noticed missing during a head count last year. He was eventually found sitting in the prison’s chapel where he often volunteered, suffering from scratches and bite marks to his arms and hands.
He explained he had been attacked by a pack of Mexicans and had fallen asleep in the chapel. It was an hour later, while Scherf was being questioned in the shift lieutenant’s office, that Biendl’s body would be discovered inside the chapel. She had been strangled to death with an amplifier cord.
Scherf would be charged with Beindl’s murder and the prison would suffer some fallout in regards to Biendl’s fellow employees trying to cover their incompetence, and even some changes that improved worker safety.…

TACOMA, WA — A 27-year-old man has been accused of strangling his friend in his bedroom, then using a hand saw to partially dismember the corpse.
Police say that on March 18 or 19, John Jones Jr. strangled 54-year-old Wayne Williams in the bedroom of a home he shares with his mother, younger brother and an uncle. He then used a hand saw to start dismembering the corpse for future disposal.
Problem was that he was taking too long to dispose of the body, and Williams was quickly starting to smell pretty ripe.
On March 21, Jones’ mother noticed a foul smell coming from her son’s room and went in to investigate. It wasn’t hard to determine the source of the odor as Williams’ corpse was lying on a mattress without a head or legs. Jones had already removed them — the legs still wearing socks and shoes — and placed them in garbage bags.
When police interviewed John Jones, he stated he regularly hung out with Williams and they occasionally did drugs together, but he did not know how he ended up dead and in several pieces inside his bedroom.…

Orlando, FL - Alexis Felton, 22, was caught on video surveillance choking her 11-month-old daughter six times while in the Florida hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit.
The infant wasn’t even a year old, but had already been hospitalized a total of six times. During the infant’s latest stay in the hospital for respiratory problems, Felton was captured on camera disconnecting the wires connected to her daughter and then choking the infant six separate times.
According to the police report, Felton reaches down and chokes the child. The child again can be heard gasping for breath and can be seen kicking its legs in an attempt to get away. On the fifth attempt, the baby went limp and the monitors alerted the nurses.
The report states that when nurses entered the room, Felton said, “She’s having another episode.” The nurses were able to save the baby and the hospital staff called police. They questioned Felton at the scene and then arrested her. She was initially charged with six counts of attempted homicide but Judge Thomas Kirkland later minimized those counts to just one charge of attempted homicide.…

SACRAMENTO, CA - I wasn’t going to post about the murder of 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, especially since Nancy Grace and a couple of silly “psychics” are on the case and will have this solved in no time, but when I saw Google considers an opinionated Gather article a news source, I died a little inside and figured I would put up my own article.
I know a lot of you have already heard about the murder of 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, but for those of you who haven’t, her body was found in a dugout of a baseball field last Tuesday morning. She had been strangled, stabbed and beaten.
The last person known to have seen her alive was her mother, Tara Funk-Haslam, who says her daughter ran out of the house to meet someone after an argument. She says she chased after her but was unable to catch her.
Armchair detectives are already fingering her as the prime suspect, speculating as to why her mother waited until the next morning to call police, or why she didn’t try to contact her friends or her father, Allen Porter.…

Greensboro, NC — Kevin Kennedy Gilchrest, 48, was apprehended in connection with the dumping of a nude woman’s body along a city street last Sunday. Police say that Gilchrest did not realize at the time that the woman was not dead.
The magistrate’s report describes the unidentified woman resisting Gilchrest’s attack Sunday. The arrest warrant said the attacker placed one hand on the woman’s throat while pushing her against a wall. The assailant then pushed her to the ground. The strangulation reportedly continued while the victim was raped.
The court records go on to say that – after the rape – the attacker severly beat her. He then reportedly assessed her lifelessness by raising and letting go of her arm. Court documents say that she allowed her arm to ‘flop down’ in a fashion indicating that she had died during the strangulation and beating. Gilchrest also reportedly held his finger under her nose to detect breathing – during which the victim was reported to have held her breath.
Court documents say that the attacker then placed the woman in his car and dumped her nude body on the side a city street early Sunday.…

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A man with a history of violent assaults has been arrested and charged with strangling a woman after severely injuring her with a sexual device.
On Monday, police arrested 39-year-old Anthony Politi after they were called to his home by someone reporting someone in trouble. When police arrived at the duplex, they would find Politi along with the dead body of a black female.
After hours of interrogation, police say Politi finally admitted that he and the woman were engaged in sexual activity when he severely injured her by repeatedly raping her with some kind of sexual device. When the woman would not quit screaming, Politi said he strangled her.
The woman’s identity has not been released, nor has the relationship between her and Politi been reported, but the two articles I read bring up the fact that this neighborhood is a very transient area known for prostitution.
Police plan on charging Politi with murder, rape and sodomy. I know it wasn’t, but until I find out what kind of sexual device Politi used on this poor woman I can’t help but assume it was akin to the strap-on dildo-knife from SE7EN.…
