COLUMBIA, SC – Police say a mother killed her estranged husband’s girlfriend before killing her two kids and then herself.

On the day before the shootings, police were at the home of 36-year-old Jessica Edens after her estranged husband called and asked them to check on their 5-year-old daughter.

He explained he and Edens were in court earlier that day regarding the custody of their 5-year-old daughter, and that Edens had sent him a disturbing text message.

Police noted that Edens and her two kids were about to sit down to eat popcorn and watch a movie, and that the 5-year-old girl was on the phone with her father.

Edens explained to police that she and her husband were in the middle of a divorce and that she planned to expose his year long affair with a co-worker, 28-year-old Meredith Rahme. Police had already gotten reports from Rahme about her receiving harassing text messages and phone calls from Edens.

There was even a post on homewreckers.com that seems to show Rahme’s picture that read: “This little girl has no self respect and no morals.…

CHARLESTON, SC – The 43-year-old man who wrapped electrical tape around his dog’s muzzle to stop her from barking has been sentenced to five years in prison.

William Dodson, 43, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after he chained his 15-month-old Staffordshire bull terrier outside before wrapping her muzzle nine times with electrical tape.

The dog “Caitlyn” escaped and was found later in critical condition as the tape had cut off blood flow to her tongue. It took veterinarians at the Animal Society 36 hours to unravel the tape. Caitlyn survived but required multiple surgeries and lost part of her tongue.

According to Charleston Animal Society CEO Joe Elmore, Caitlyn is now living with a new family and thriving, but continued to suffer from anxiety and stress.

Dodson received five years in prison for what he did to his dog – the state’s maximum for animal cruelty. “I wish I could give you more,” said Judge Markley Dennis.

This sentence was handed down a day after Dodson was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a gun charge he got in a 2015 traffic stop.…

todd-kohlheppANDERSON COUNTY, SC – A woman missing since August has been found chained like a dog inside a metal storage container, and a registered sex offender has been arrested.

Back in August, 30-year-old Kala Brown and her boyfriend, 32-year-old Charlie Carver, disappeared from their apartment leaving cell phones, a car, and their dog behind.

The faded from the news a bit until recently, when someone started posting on Carver’s Facebook page.

The person making the posts claimed the couple were fine and just decided to leave.

Their family members did not believe the posts were coming from the couple, thinking the page had either been hacked, or the handiwork of the person(s) responsible for their disappearance.

We now know the fate of Brown, who was found alive inside a storage shed on property belonging to 45-year-old Todd Kohlhepp, a registered sex offender.

Acting on a tip provided by a sex crime investigator, deputies were on the property when they heard banging coming from the storage container

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Brown was “chained inside the container like a dog.

puddle-of-mudCOLUMBIA, SC – The family of David Outlaw want answers after the 66-year-old drowned in a puddle at his nursing home after being left alone outside in his wheelchair during the height of Hurricane Matthew.

According to Richard Outlaw, his brother was in his wheelchair smoking a cigarette in the facility’s courtyard. A nurse told police that he refused to come in so she left him out there to smoke.

When she returned a few minutes later, she found him pinned beneath his electric wheelchair in a puddle of water. Outlaw was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy would later confirm the man had drowned.

“My brother survived Vietnam, car crashes and two strokes,” said Richard Outlaw. “Just to die in a puddle of water?”

Richard says someone should have at least kept a close eye on his brother if he wouldn’t come inside. His wife echoed her brother-in-law.

“How negligent is it to just leave him outside in a hurricane by himself?” said his wife, Karyl Outlaw.…

Lindsey D. HoneycuttMYRTLE BEACH, SC – Four people have been arrested and accused of sexually assaulting two 4-year-old children at multiple locations for five months.

The details regarding these arrests almost sound too depraved to be true but, as longtime DD readers are well aware, we’ve reported on worse.

According to police, two 4-year-olds, a male and a female, told police that they had been sexually abused by Lindsey Honeycutt, 29; Ambrose Heavener, 30; Panteleimon Spirakis, 55; and Anthony Strickland, 45.

These assaults reportedly took place between December 2014 and April 2015 at various locations, including a Myrtle Beach strip club where Honeycutt worked as a dancer.

The victims said that not only were they were forced to have sex with Honeycutt and Heavener, they were also forced to have sex with their siblings and with each other. The female victim said she was had sex with Spirakis — a man charged in 2008 for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl for three years.

Frank Frazier Jr.AIKEN, SC – A would-be robber is dead after he lured a couple with a fake Craigslist ad selling a used car, and ended up dead when his intended victim gave him a free gunshot wound.

According to Aiken police, the couple met 23-year-old Frank Frazier Jr. at a gas station thinking they were meeting him to purchase a car he was selling on Craigslist.

But it was all a scam designed to lure the couple to the location so they could be robbed of the cash they brought to purchase Frazier’s used car. Frazier, who was with an accomplice, pulled a gun on the couple and demanded the money.

However, while Frazier had his gun trained on the man, the woman pulled out her own handgun and shot him. The unidentified male who was with Frazier was able to flee the scene, but Frazier would be pronounced dead at it.

No charges are expected to be filed against the couple, who called 911 after the shooting and remained at the scene until police arrived.…

Marsha JohnsonCOVINGTON, GA — Police in Georgia need help identifying the man filmed snatching a woman’s purse in a Walmart parking lot, then running over and killing her.

Surveillance footage shows 65-year-old Marsha Johnson returning to her car at a Covington Walmart when she is approached by an unknown male.

The man violently snags Johnson’s purse, causing her to fall to the ground, before he jumps in a nearby car. As the man drives away, he runs over Johnson several times, killing her.

“There was no way they could not have known that they had run over something, from what we saw on the video,” said police Capt. Ken Malcolm.

Police have released edited video of the attack in hopes someone will recognize the man or the vehicle he was driving. The vehicle involved is a mid-’90s model four-door Honda sedan that’s silver or gray and has extensive damage on the driver’s side.

The man is described as a Hispanic male with goatee, in his late 20s to early 30s, and weighing between 250 and 300 pounds.…

Brandon TerrySPARTANBURG, SC – A couple were arrested Sunday after making repeated 911 calls to report seeing people and possums jumping out of their refrigerator and microwave.

Deputies said 32-year-old Brandon Terry and 28-year-old Casey Fowler gave the dispatcher the wrong address to their rental home, but police managed to track down the couple a few blocks away.

When asked if the couple had taken any drugs, they said they had not. They then showed the officers pictures they say proved that worms were coming out of the floor of their vehicle and pictures of “midgets and other people camouflaged.”

The officer looked at one of the photos and noted that it only showed a basketball goal and a tree. Terry informed the officer that he could not see the camouflaged midgets because on he could see him.

Field sobriety tests were conducted on the couple and both showed signs of being under the influence of drugs. Terry’s test had to be restarted at least once because Terry stopped and said the deputy was touching his eyes.…

tongue sandwichNORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Police say a teen tried to rape a woman in South Carolina but was foiled when the victim kicked him in the balls then bit off his tongue.

Last Friday morning at around 6:30 a.m., a woman was awakened by a knock on her door. She got up and answered the door, but found no one there and went back to bed.

This happened two more times until the woman finally stepped outside to see who was knocking on her door and ringing her doorbell.  According to a police report, the woman saw a man on the side of her house, holding a knife.

She screamed and ran back inside her home in an attempt to escape the man, but he followed and was able to force himself into her home before she was able to shut the door. The suspect then tackled the woman, punched her several times in the face and informed her to “stop fighting and I won’t hurt you.”

The suspect carried the victim into her bedroom where he tried to remove the victim’s shorts, but she wasn’t letting him have his way that easily.…

Robert JordanLANCASTER, SC – Police have arrested 47-year-old Robert Jordan after they say he murdered his 5-year-old, wheelchair-bound son.

Jordan drove his son, La’Marion, to the hospital on Sept 3. He told doctors that the boy, who suffered from cerebral palsy, had fallen from his wheelchair and hit his head on the floor.

La’Marion was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center where he would die the next day. An autopsy revealed the boy had died from blunt force trauma to the head.

A sheriff’s investigator and an investigator with the State Law Enforcement Division’s child fatality unit would conduct a weeks-long investigation and determine the boy was not injured after falling from his wheelchair.

According to the arrest warrant, the boy was injured while Jordan was carrying La’Marion down the hallway of their home. For unreported reasons, Jordan allegedly “forcefully threw” his son to the floor, causing the boy’s injuries.

On Oct 13, Jordan was arrested and has been charged with homicide by child abuse. If convicted, he’s looking at 20 years behind bars.…

James QuattlebaumAIKEN, SC – Police have arrested 25-year-old James Quattlebaum after he decapitated a 2-week-old puppy in front of his girlfriend and her two children during an argument.

On Saturday, police responding to a disturbance call arrived at a home and spoke with 37-year-old Tarsha Hankinson. She told them her boyfriend, Quattlebaum, came home under the influence of narcotics and had beheaded a puppy in front of her and her two children, ages 7 and 10.

The two children told police that Quattlebaum had gotten into an argument with their mother then and confirmed he had used a large kitchen knife to cut the head off of one of their puppies.

Inside the home police would find blood on a rug in a rear bedroom and a large knife on a dresser. The knife was covered with blood and light-colored animal fur. Police would find the puppy’s body outside the home in a trash can.

The officers would find Quattlebaum in the driveway sitting in his vehicle reeking of alcohol. After being placed in a patrol car, Quattlebaum had to be hobbled when he “began kicking the door to the patrol car as officers began preparing to transport him” and spit in an officer’s face.…

Kid in 10 yearsROCK HILL, SC – I’m all for public shaming, but a good example of shaming going too far happened in South Carolina where a mother shaved her young son’s head, dressed him in a tutu, then paraded him in a Walmart.

Police were called to the Walmart Sunday night after people witnessed the woman walking her 10-year-old son around the store.

According to the police report, the boy was dressed in a tutu, women’s boots, a women’s undergarment and a T-shirt with permanent marker writing underneath.

She had also shaved her son’s head “in an unusual manner, bald on top with a patch of hair on the front of his head” and written the word “BAD” written in permanent marker on the back of his head.

The mother explained that she was punishing her son for “fighting and making homophobic remarks in school.” She said that her son has been having behavioral issues and that corporal punishment had proven to be ineffective. She felt embarrassing the ever-living shit out of him would be more effective.…

Danielle HughesSPARTANBURG, SC – Danielle Hughes has been arrested and her two young children removed from her care after she called 911 asking for a priest to come remove the demons from her 5-year-old son.

The 23-year-old called 911 to report that her home was possessed by demons, claiming pictures were falling off the walls and a shadow was standing over her shoulder. She also wanted a priest to exorcise demons she felt were possessing her son.

When police arrived at the woman’s trailer, they found a house that needed a maid more than it needed any type of religious rituals. Deputies say the house was filthy and filled with trash and dead roaches.

The bedroom was full of dirty diapers, trash, and milk bottles half-full of spoiled milk. The refrigerator in the kitchen was full of molded food and a swarm of gnats came out of it when it was opened. Even worse, Hugh’s baby girl was covered in bug bites.

The baby and her 5-year-old brother were removed from the home and placed into protective custody.…

Isabel Cristina ZuluagaSIMPSONVILLE, SC – Police have taken a 13-year-old boy into custody after his mother, 44-year-old Isabel Zuluaga, was found stabbed to death in their home.

A contractor who arrived at Zuluaga’s home Tuesday morning is the one who called 911 after finding the woman dead inside.

He said that when no one answered the door for him he went under home’s crawlspace to start working and found Zuluaga’s son hiding under the house.

After telling the boy to leave so he could start working he noticed blood dripping from above, through the floorboards. That’s when the contractor went inside the home and found Zuluaga dead from multiple stab wounds to the torso.

Police would take the teen into custody a few hours later after he was found walking near a highway. According to Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis, the teen admitted to killing his mother the night before and then going to sleep.

“When the contractor came it startled him because apparently he did not realize a contractor was coming,” said Loftis.…

Porsche CarteeSPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC — Porsche Cartee, 25, was killed by her pit bull on Saturday during an attack that also injured her mother and sister.

According to police, the 7-to 10-year-old male pit bull first attacked Cartee’s mother and then attacked Cartee when she stepped in to help. Cartee’s sister managed to get the dog locked into another room in the house, but it was too late for Cartee.

She would die at the scene from bites to her head and body. Her mother and sister both suffered injuries to their arms, her mother suffering injuries so severe that they required surgery.

Investigators don’t know why the dog attacked, police saying it could have been anything from a high-pitched noise to the brand of toilet paper in the house, but Cartee’s ex-boyfriend said it’s probably because the dog was a total asshole.

“I have never seen a dog more aggressive,” said Patrick Powell. “That dog was so aggressive. I wanted to kill that dog. I said if you don’t let me do it, let somebody else do it.…

The incident happened Sunday night when witnesses heard Rizk screaming for help. Stanton Boothby happened to be driving by and saw Rizk being dragged around by her husband’s pit bull.

Boothby got out of his car and ran to help, using the first item he could get his hands on – a guitar stand.

“When I saw this happening, I grabbed it out of the back of the car and went to the dog and I said, ‘Dog, off!’ and I just pushed like this. I never hit the dog, he just looked up and when he saw it coming he backed up.”

Neighbors had already called 911 by this time, and responding officers arrived and distracted the dog while another applied a tourniquet to Rizk’s “shredded” arm that was damaged almost up to her armpit. A tourniquet was also applied to Rizk’s legs, where she had more injuries.…

William DodsonCharleston, SC — Some of you may have seen a post about Caitlyn, a 15-month-old Chocolate Staffie, pop up in your Facebook feeds last week.

The stray pup was found with electrical tape wrapped tightly around her muzzle, her tongue trapped between her teeth. It is believed she had wandered around like that for at least two days before appearing on the doorstep of a good Samaritan.

Her story quickly went viral, and the picture that accompanied the article was enough to make a heartless wench like myself tear up a bit. The public was asked to help identify the idiot responsible, and an arrest was made earlier this week.

William Dodson, 41, was charged Monday with ill treatment of animals and torture. Dodson is being held pending a bond hearing, and police have yet to release a motive.

“Caitlyn is in a lot of pain, her condition is critical, and her prognosis is guarded,” said Dr. Lucy Fuller, Charleston Animal Society’s senior director of veterinary care. “A large part of her tongue may need to be removed surgically if the tissue dies from the lack of blood flow.…
