Review – PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2

October 22, 2010 at 10:19 am by

First off, let me state for the record that I’m a fan of Oren Peli‘s PARANORMAL ACTIVITY (our review) even if I did feel it barely survived the crushing weight of the hype that was heaped upon it. A lot of this had to do with the fact that I had watched the version that made the rounds at film festivals years a couple years before it made it to the theaters. I thought the minimalistic approach was extremely effective and achieved at giving me goosebumps on a couple occasions. The rest is history after a successful marketing campaign that got the film into theaters and asses in the seats, leading to a film with a budget of $11,000 making $194 million worldwide and becoming an entry into the annals of pop culture history. One of my issues with the film was the re-vamped ending that led to the possibilities of a sequel, something that wasn’t possible with the original version. So when it was officially announced that there was going to be a follow-up, I honestly had no hopes for it, envisioning a slightly better PARANORMAL ENTITY.…

Netflix Night With Paranormal Entity (2009)

The Chiller network kept advertising that they would be broadcasting The Asylum’s PARANORMAL ENTITY tonight, so I figured I would watch it on Netflix since I noticed it was one of their Watch Instantly titles. Besides, the adult book store I frequent got raided earlier this evening and I really had nothing else to do. For those of you unaware, Asylum is a film studio known for distributing B-movies capitalizing off the buzz from bigger studios. Asylum names their films similarly and release them around the same time as their big-budget counterparts. You know, just like some pornos do. But instead of films like SHAVING RYAN’S PRIVATES, Asylum has films you’ve probably seen on Chiller or SyFy titled TRANSMORPHERSNetflix Night With Paranormal Entity (2009), THE DA VINCI TREASURENetflix Night With Paranormal Entity (2009), and SNAKES ON A TRAINNetflix Night With Paranormal Entity (2009). Sometimes they are so bad that I actually get a kick out of watching these stinky nuggets they like to call “tie-ins” instead of “rip offs” or “mockbusters”, the terms the rest of us like to use. So with the financial success of PARANORMAL ACTIVITYNetflix Night With Paranormal Entity (2009) (our review) it came as no surprise that the clever people at The Asylum would release their own suburban ghost story titled PARANORMAL ENTITY.…

Let’s Talk About Paranormal Activity

October 11, 2009 at 11:03 am by

Katie and Micah are a couple experiencing some strange events in their home; strange noises, lights turning off and on by themselves, and soft whispering in the middle of the night. This is not an odd occurrence for Katie — this kind of thing has been happening to her since she was a child. Some kind of entity has been following her all her life, no matter where she lives. But now she is with Micah, and this stubborn day trader is not gonna just sit back and let some “thing” come into his house and start scaring the shit out of them. He decides that he is going to take care of the problem himself, but in order to do so he needs to know what he is up against. He starts by purchasing a camera to start recording the things happening around the home, his hope being that by capturing any of the phenomena on film, then they will be better equipped to solve the problem. At first Katie is reluctant, thinking that this will just make the situation worse, but she consents and even lets Micah set the camera up to record them while they sleep.…
