Destiny Spitler, 12, Dies After Putting On Grandmother’s Pain Patch

CLINTON, MO – Destiny Spitler died in her sleep Saturday after putting on her grandmother’s pain patch that she found in the trash.
Paramedics were called to Destiny’s home Saturday morning after family member’s found her not breathing. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and the girl was later pronounced dead. An official cause of death has not been released, but investigators found a Fetanyl patch affixed to her thigh.
Destiny’s grandmother uses the pain-killing patches for her back, and it’s believed the girl found one in a trash can, put it on and accidentally overdosed. Destiny’s grandmother issued a warning to others.
“Mothers, fathers … anyone who wears these dang patches, dispose of them, fold them up in tiny little pieces and flush them down the stool so your babies won’t be like mine,” she said.
Toxicologist Dr. Stephen Thornton agrees, stating he has seen many cases in which children have put on discarded pain patches, which still have around 50 percent of the medication they started with, thinking they are stickers.…

FREDERICKSBURG, TX – After snorting some 25c-NBOMe, a synthetic hallucinogenic that can be bought online, 16-year-old Sam Herrera died from cardiac arrest and 17-year-old James Jarreau ended up recouping in the hospital.
According to Fredericksburg Police Lt. Steve Wetz, a teen who lives at the home where the boys ingested the drug told investigators he watched Herrera and Jarreau snort the white powder at around 1:30 a.m Saturday.
An hour later, the two boys were hallucinating, yelling at each other and being destructive. The owner of the home woke up and called 911, but by the time emergency responders arrived, Herrera was unconscious.
“When we got there the Herrera subject was unconscious and the other one was hallucinating strongly,” Wetz said.
Both teens were taken to the hospital where Herrera was pronounced dead from cardiac arrest. Jarreau was in critical condition, but by Monday his condition was upgraded to stable.
Wetz said the boys bought the drug from another student at Fredericksburg High School, who had purchased the drug off the Internet. Some of the drug was recovered at the home and sent to a lab for testing.…

MUNCIE, Ind. – Police in Indiana have arrested a woman after they say she drove her 16-year-old to attempt suicide and helped ensure the attempt was a success.
Sabrina Howard, 40, of Muncie has been charged with neglect of a dependent and causing suicide, both felonies, after investigators say she caused her suicidal son to take a handful of her prescription medication, then failed to render aid.
Police say that on July 10, Howard confronted her son, Charles Howard, about 20 missing Xanax, and 26 missing Lortabs. She said her son denied taking them, but that he had ”slow speech” and appeared “groggy.” Before he fell asleep on the couch, she warned him that if he had consumed that amount, then he had taken enough to kill him.
Despite this, Howard did not call for help and left him sleeping on the couch. She told investigators she would check on him periodically, but called 911 eight hours later when she noticed he was not breathing and had turned an unnatural shade of gray. But Howard’s call for help was too little, too late.…

Anchorage, Alaska – The man accused of injecting a 14-year-old girl with heroin is in even more trouble after the teen died the other day, having spent almost a week on life support.
Police say 26-year-old Sean Warner, a navy veteran who served in the Afghanistan war as a medic, was with two other men when they picked up 14-year-old Jena Dolstad (Facebook) and took her back to Warner’s home to hang out. There the group used a variety of drugs, including heroin. Dolstad indicated she wanted to try the drug, but didn’t want to inject it herself.
According to the court documents, that’s when Warner tried to inject her himself. First attempts were unsuccessful as he was unable to find a vein. So he had Dolstad lie on his bed and tied a belt around her arm before injecting her with 25 to 30 units of heroin.
She was reportedly left alone in the room and was discovered the following morning face down in her own vomit. She was still alive, but unresponsive.…

Ferndale, MI - 43 year-old Steven Fitch died from a meth overdose at the home of a reverend he met on a gay dating website that day.
Reverend Mark Bidwell,52, is known to be gay, so that part isn’t a shock. What is shocking, though, is that Bidwell was the town’s police chaplain before this happened, having since been let go.
Bidwell invited Fitch over to his house for a little game of ‘hide the pickle.’ When they were done, though, Fitch allegedly produced a syringe containing meth, and injected both himself and the reverend with it.
While all the other homosexual, anonymous-internet-sex-having reverends where tucked safe and sound in their beds, Bidwell went back online and found a third person to join them around 3:30am. 28 year-old Bret Colpaert now has a story to tell when the topic of internet sex horror stories comes up.

Los Lunas, NM – An man in jail died of a drug overdose and now his girlfriend is facing charges after police say the drugs were mailed to the dead man inside children’s paintings.
Joseph Segura died of a Suboxone overdose while in state prison last year. The drug, normally given to people trying to get off heroin, was smuggled into the prison inside watercolor paintings supposedly made by his kids.
At face value, the artwork looked like any other crappy artwork children make, accompanied with notes about missing and loving daddy. But the paint used to create the yellow sun and duck was spiked.
Police say his girlfriend, 47-year-old Shari Stone, crushed up Suboxone and mixed it into the paint so that when Segura got the artwork, he would simply lick the paintings and catch one hell of a buzz.
Not any more of course, as he’s dead and his girlfriend is looking at a charge of involuntary manslaughter, bringing contraband onto prison grounds, conspiracy to commit bringing contraband onto prison grounds and distribution of a controlled substance.…

Monroe County, FL - Thomas Swindal, 53, was reportedly fishing with his brother off of the Florida keys when they found a brick of an unknown substance floating in the water. By his brothers account, Swindal decided to snort some of it. Oddly, things went wrong.
Swindal’s brother told police that shortly after retrieving the brick from the water, he looked back to observe that Swindal had opened the package and ‘was snorting it up.’ According to police, about 90 minutes later, Swindal reportedly began to ‘run around the boat, threw his cell phone and radio into the water, and began mangling the engine with random tools to the point that it wouldn’t start.’
Concerned, Swindal’s brother reacted by throwing all the sharp things and the mystery package of powder off the boat. He then signaled state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers to rescue them.
Swindal was taken to the South Miami Hospital and died the next day, police say. The Sheriff’s Office has since confirmed that the cause of death was a cocaine overdose.…

Columbia, SC – Carol Kring Ross, 68, has been accused of killing her quadruple-amputee husband by overdose, according to the local sheriff’s office. Larry Ross died on May 4. Carol and Larry Ross had been married for 48 years.
According to police, the couple’s adopted 12-year-old daughter described coming home from school on May 4 to find her parents screaming at each other. The daughter also reportedly said her father told her “your mother gave me too many pills.”
Sheriff Leon Lott said a call was then received from Carol Ross, who threatened to commit suicide. When deputies responded to the Ross’ home, Larry Ross was found in bed unresponsive. Rescuers took him to the Veterans Administration Hospital where he died. Police say a toxicology report showed Larry Ross, who had been bed-ridden for five years after his arms and legs were amputated, died of an overdose of pills which had been prescribed to him and his wife.
Carol Rosses’ attorney reportedly said that Carol Ross had been a nurse for more than two decades and was the sole caregiver for Larry Ross.…

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – What’s up with all the breast milk in the news today? We’ve got one story where someone used it as a weapon, and now we have one in which it killed an infant.
Back in November, police found 37-year-old Stephanie Greene’s six-week-old infant, Alexis, dead at her home after responding to a 911 call. They didn’t know the cause of death at the time, but after a six-month investigation Greene has been charged with murder or homicide by child abuse or neglect.
Turns out she had been abusing painkillers while breastfeeding her daughter, and the high levels of morphine in her breast milk is what killed her daughter.
On top of the murder charge, Greene is also facing facing 38 counts of violating state drug distribution laws.
Police found that for about a year prior to her daughter’s death, Greene was scamming doctors with fake prescriptions to get obtain the drugs, including oxycodone and hydrocodone. At the time Alexis was born, Greene was taking pills and using illegally obtained patches containing morphine.…

BLAINE, Minn. — Here’s a couple of stories for your Saturday that I was working on yesterday bit didn’t get the chance. Starting with the group of people at a party that suffered a mass overdose of a designer drug that led to one teen dying.
Police say that up to eleven people, ages 16 to 21, were at a house party Wednesday taking the designer drug known as “2 C-E” that can be purchased legally via the Internet and it’s a reported hallucinogenic. Some of the people in attendance snorted it, while others mixed it in drinks but police feel none of them were aware of what constituted a safe dosage.
It didn’t take long until 911 calls were being made from people at the party because of obvious medical issues some were suffering after taking the drug. By time emergency responders arrived at the home, some had already fled the scene and were suffering from overdose effects elsewhere. Eventually police were able to contact all involved and get them to the hospital, two of them in critical condition.…

Glendale, AZ — In September of ’09, Veronica Linares’ 9-month-old daughter died after eating a packet of methamphetamine her mother had stashed next to the snacks in the bottom drawer of a dresser in the nursery. What? Like you don’t keep yours there, too…
The child, born with a heavy concentration of meth already in her system, was placed with a foster family shortly after birth and had only been back in her mother’s custody for a week when she died. According to police, CPS reports show Linares made statements about never wanting the kid and wishing the child was dead. Yet the baby was returned to the worthless meth-addicted incubator anyway….nice.
Shortly after the little girl’s death, Linares squished out another meth baby. That child, now a year old, was immediately taken by the state and placed into the care of other family members. Without pesky children to tie her down, Linares disappeared.
Police finally caught up with Linares on Wednesday and booked her on child abuse and second-degree murder charges.…

Jacksonville, FL – 30-year-old Dana Michell Anderson was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated manslaughter on a child younger than 18 years old by culpable negligence about a week after the death of her boyfriend’s 2-year-old son, Masia Wright. According to authorities, Masia’s father, Ernest Wright, returned home from school on November 15 to find his son unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital – an autopsy revealed Masia died from methadone toxicity. During questioning earlier this week, Dana admitted to leaving a brightly colored sippy cup with about 80 mg. of methadone in it on the dresser of her bedroom. Ernest believes his son thought it was juice and chugged it down. “I know she loved my son and she wouldn’t do anything like that,” Ernest said. “She just wasn’t thinking.” Dana, who had raised the child since he was about 3-months-old, is now behind bars on $1 million bond. Police say she has been arrested more than a dozen times since 2006 on charges ranging from petty theft to possession of crack.…
DENVER, Pa. – On April 17th, 4-year-old Alexandrea died from a lethal dose of methadone and Xanax. Yesterday her 30-year-old father, Brian Moskal, was charged with killing her. Moskal is legally allowed to possess and use these drugs for himself, but admitted to investigators that he also gave them to his daughter. He stated that he gave the girl two doses of the drugs, one at 8 p.m. and one at midnight the morning before she was found unresponsive. Moskal is charged with criminal homicide, drug delivery resulting in death, drug delivery and endangering the welfare of a child. He was not in jail long before he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. No word on why. After posting this, I wanted to double-check to see if anyone had reported on why he was hospitalized. I didn’t find anything, but did find his full mugshot. MANATEE COUNTY - On the night of October 30th, Kristina and Joseph decided to partake in copious amounts of cocaine and prescription painkillers. They did so much in fact, that they overdosed.
