Police Search For “Backpage Killer” After Four Women Found Dead

DETROIT, MI — Police have found the dead bodies of four women this month, and police say three of them had advertised escort services on Backpage.com, a Craigslist-type site that includes ads for escort, massage and stripper services.
On December 19, the bodies of 23-year-old Renisha Landers (pictured), and her cousin, 24-year-old Demesha Hunt, were found in the trunk of Lander’s new Chrysler 300 parked in the driveway of a vacant home. Their bodies showed no outward sings of trauma and investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Then, on Christmas Day, two black females between the ages of 28 and 29 were found in the trunk of a car that had been set on fire. They were both burned beyond recognition. Police would later identify them and reveal both had advertised escort services on Backpage.com, as did either Landers or Hunt.
Investigators are now seeking warrants to search IP addresses and cell phone numbers in connection with the deaths. Backpage.com, which has come under fire for how it polices ads for adult services, released a statement saying they are helping police with their investigation and providing them with whatever info they need from them.…

GRAPEVINE, TX – Police say a man was dressed as Santa Claus on Christmas when he shot and killed six relatives before turning the gun on himself.
Police were dispatched to the Lincoln Vineyard apartment complex after a call was made to 911 at around 11:30 a.m. Christmas day in which no one would respond to dispatchers.
When police and firefighters arrived at the apartment the call originated from, located at the back of the complex, they would find a massacre had taken place.
Inside the living room and kitchen area of the apartment police would find seven people, four women and three men aged 15 to 60, dead beside open gifts near a Christmas tree. Some were still sitting on furniture while others were on the floor.
“We think he was just inside there celebrating Christmas with the rest of them and decided for whatever reason that’s how he’s going to end things,” Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling told The Associated Press.
The identities of the victims have not been released yet, but all were related either by blood or marriage, according to Grapevine Police Lt.…

Brooklyn, NY - Back in July, Morbid reported on the case of the killing of 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky whose dismembered body were found, among other places, in 35-year-old Levi Aron’s freezer. The case has recently made news based on Aron’s lawyer’s claim that… well… everything is a mitigating factor.
The background of the story is this… Leiby Kletzky attended day camp. He normally took a bus home but wanted desperately to walk home instead. After listening to his begging, his parents agreed to allow him to walk part of the way home – a distance of 7-blocks. He would meet his mother for a doctor’s appointment. His parents were reported to have worked with him to memorize the route. They then also practiced the route together on a ‘dry run.’
On the day that Leiby was to walk home, he left the day camp wearing a striped shirt with his bag over his shoulder and a smaller bag on his waist. He initially followed the route as planned but, then, missed a turn on to a side street.…

BETHANY, Oklahoma – Back in October we reported on Carina Saunders, the 19-year-old girl whose dead body was found stuffed inside a duffel bag. Yesterday police announced they have arrested 33-year-old Jimmy Lee Massey on a complaint of first-degree murder.
He wasn’t hard to find as he was already sitting in jail on drug trafficking charges after being the focus of a large narcotics investigation. Massey has also been charged with the kidnapping and assault of an unknown witness who was the key to cracking the case, and where things get really, really strange.
In case you didn’t click the link to our initial story, Saunders was last seen around an apartment complex on October 8 or 9. Animal rescue workers found her dismembered body in a duffel bag behind a Homeland store a little over a week later.
During their investigation, police learned that a woman may have witnessed the murder of Saunders and after tracking the woman down, they were told a story right out of a bad movie.
Police say the woman, believed to be working with drug and human traffickers, told them that on the night of October 9, she was standing on the street when Massey drove up in a vehicle and forced her inside.…

LETHBRIDGE, Canada – Here’s a story out of Canada proving to our readers that jealous ex-boyfriends with guns who go on a murder spree are not specific to the good ol’ US of A.
Police say early Thursday morning, 21-year-old Derek Jensen was out looking for his ex-girlfriend, 21-year-old Tabitha Stepple, after Jensen went “berserk” when he saw her with friends at a bar Wednesday night.
Stepple was at the bar celebrating Tanner Craswell’s 22nd birthday with her friend 21-year-old Shayna Conway and Craswell’s best friend, 20-year-old Mitchell MacLean. The group left after Jensen confronted them, pushing Stepple out of her chair and yelling at her like a giant douche. He then tried calling her over and over again, leaving an ominous message that stated “This night’s not going to end well for you. I hope you know that.”
Jensen would self-fulfill his prophecy later that night as Conway and Stepple drove to Calgary airport to drop off Craswell and MacLean so they could catch a flight back home for Christmas. While driving down Highway 2 early Thursday morning, the group were rear-ended by another vehicle.…

New York, NY – Things seem to happen in threes around here, and horrifying elevator deaths are no exception. Within the last week or so, we’ve reported on two separate incidents of women becoming the victim of a malfunctioning elevator and dying in a way best reserved for the worst of nightmares.
On Saturday, a 73-year-old woman in New York died in an elevator, but this was not because of a mechanical malfunction. The poor woman was murdered in one of the most horrifying ways imaginable after a man sprayed her with with a flammable liquid and then set her on fire.
Surveillance footage captures Delores Gillespie as she is about to step out of an elevator on the fifth floor of her apartment building when 47-year-old Jerome Isaac barges in wearing what looks like an exterminator’s outfit. He immediately begins spraying Gillespie in the face and body with some type of flammable liquid from a canister he is carrying.
As the elderly woman retreats to the back of the elevator in an attempt to protect herself, Isaac lights a rag stuffed inside a bottle and uses the flame to set Gillespie on fire before tossing the Molotov cocktail into the elevator.…

Emington, Ill – Residents of a small farming community 80 miles southwest of Chicago are still dealing with the horrifying events that unfolded in their neighborhood Friday, when a woman shot her boyfriend and three children to death before turning the gun on herself.
Shortly after kids had arrived home from school to start their Christmas break, people reported hearing a series of gunshots coming from the home of 30-year-old Sara McMeen.
One of McMeen’s neighbors told the press that after hearing the gunfire she ran out of her home and saw McMeen in her backyard standing over her daughter, 10-month-old Maggie Warren. The baby was wrapped in a blanket and lying on the ground as if she had been dropped. The neighbor, whose backyard butted up against McMeen’s backyard, asked if everything was all right.
“No, everything is not all right,” McMeen reportedly told the neighbor before bending over at the waist and shooting her baby at point-blank range. Horrified, the neighbor ran for help only to find McMeen lying beside her infant when she returned, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.…

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – An 82-year-old Florida man will find out later this month if he will be serving life in prison after being convicted Monday of beating his girlfriend to death with a flashlight battery.
Back in 2010, Alfred Infosino called 911 and said he had just “killed somebody.” He told the dispatcher that he had beat his girlfriend to death with a flashlight battery and was now drinking ammonia.
When police arrived at his residence, they found 77-year-old Rita Chirel laying naked on the floor of the master bedroom in a pool of blood. Paramedics tried to revive Chirel, but she would die as a result of blunt force injuries and loss of blood.
Police had no record of ever visiting the couple, but neighbors reported that the couple had been arguing lately, Infosino saying he was thinking of moving out and Chirel had dropped him as executor of her estate.
On Monday, Infosino was convicted of second-degree murder and will be back in court later this month where he could be sentenced to life behind bars.…

Dyer County, TN – The body found near a cemetery on Saturday has been identified as 44-year-old Karen Swift, the mother of four who vanished after a Halloween party on October 30.
Less than a month after filing for divorce from her husband, Swift was last seen at the home she shared with her soon-to-be ex-husband, on October 30 at 1.30am. She had picked up one of her daughters from a sleepover after having attended a Halloween party at a country club.
Her husband, David, says he saw his wife on the stairs when she returned, but could not find her the next morning. David tried calling her cell, but got no answer. Not long after, a neighbor told David that Karen’s car was sitting off the side of a small nearby highway with a flat tire.
By Sunday afternoon, a friend of Karen’s called police to report her missing. They informed her to tell David, who had been calling their older sons and friends, to contact them with the details.…

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Some of you may remember a story I posted last year regarding Carl Berry, a 43-year-old man undergoing cancer treatment who was ruthlessly beaten by some teens outside a Kentucky dollar store.
Berry was taken to the hospital and fell into a coma after having surgery performed on his damaged eye. Berry never regained consciousness and has remained in a vegetative state until this past Friday, when it was reported that he had died.
For those of you unfamiliar with this story, Berry and his girlfriend were at a General Dollar store when Berry, sick from chemotherapy treatments, decided to go wait in the car. Outside in the parking lot, he was beaten senseless by 16-year-old Michac Jones and a 14-year-old. One witness stated Berry called the teens a racial slur, but his fiancee, and other witnesses at the scene, say that wasn’t true.
Whatever the reason, the beating put Berry into the coma he’d been in for the last 18 months. In August of this year, Jones, who’d already been charged with rape and sexual assault in an unrelated case at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to first degree assault.…
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Police in Indiana found three dead bodies in a home on Saturday after a woman in Washington called police concerned over a Facebook post made by one of her friends.
This past Saturday the woman was on Facebook doing whatever women do on there, like checking out how badly things are going for their high school classmates or playing Castleville, when she saw a disturbing post by Facebook friend Bart Heller, who she talked with occasionally.
“someone call 911. three dead bodies at 3229 lima road fort wayne indiana. I’ve killed ryann, erin, and myself. people were warned not to f*cking play me and ruin me. they didn’t listen. sorry about your luck.”
She contacted police in Fort Wayne and told them about the post while providing them with Heller’s name and listed address. When police arrived at the location, they found a car running in the driveway with no one inside. Kevin Sweat Charged With the Murders Of Taylor Dawn Paschal-Placker And Skyla Jade Whitaker

Weleetka, OK– Three years ago, we posted an article about 13-year-old Taylor Dawn Paschal-Placker and her best friend, 11-year-old Skyla Jade Whitaker. The two girls were walking down a dirt road in Weleetka, Oklahoma when they were gunned down in cold blood. Yesterday police announced they had finally apprehended they feel is person responsible, 25-year-old Kevin Sweat.
We’ve had a couple stories on the site that have always stuck out for me, and this was definitely one of them. For those of you who are not aware of this story, Skyla had spent the night at Taylor’s house and on the afternoon of June 8, 2008, the pair headed to Bad Creek Bridge, where they planned to collect shells and pebbles from the riverbank. When they did not return home , and Taylor would not answer her cell phone, Taylor’s grandfather went looking for them. He didn’t have to look for long.
Lying side-by-side in a ditch a quarter mile from the Taylor’s home were the bodies of the two girls. I could simply say they had been shot to death, but that doesn’t quite relay what someone had done to them.…

Canton, GA – Police have arrested 20-year-old Ryan Brunn in connection to the vicious sexual assault and murder of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera whose body was found discarded in a dumpster.
Rivera was last seen alive on Friday playing with other children at the River Ridge apartments. She vanished after telling friends she was going inside to get drinks. After a massive search, her body was found in a dumpster on Monday.
Autopsy results showed the girl was killed a short time after she had gone missing and had died from blows to the head and stab wounds. She had also been sexually assaulted before her body was tossed in the dumpster.
Brunn is a recently hired maintenance worker at the apartment complex, fitting in with the police’s initial theory that the person responsible for the girl’s death lived in the complex or had access to vacant apartments.
“We are confident that Brunn is the killer,” GBI Director Vernon Keenan said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, about an hour after Brunn’s arrest.

Jacksonville, FL – A woman in South Carolina has been accused of murdering a woman in Florida and then hiding her body under some Christmas presents.
Michelle O’Dowd, 67, was discovered by her twin brother after he went to her home to check on her after she failed to show up for work. He said that the door was open and the house had been ransacked, however her car and her pets where still there.
There was also a foot sticking out of a pile of Christmas gifts. Underneath the gifts, like some kind of macabre present, was his dead sister whose bloody face covered by a towel. She had been beaten and strangled.
It wasn’t long before police had arrested a friend of the family, 40-year-old Patty Michelle White. O’Dowd’s brother said that White was an ex-girlfriend of the victim’s nephew. He said O’Down would help White, who he said could never get her life together, by letting her stay at her place or paying her for odd jobs.…

Freehold, NJ – Prosecutors say that on November 21st Arthur Morgan III attached a car jack to his daughter’s car seat and tossed it into a car creek with her strapped inside.
The body of 2 year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover, who prosecutors say was “awake, alert, and helpless” when her dad put her in the creek, was found partially submerged the next day by children playing nearby.
Morgan had picked up the girl from her mother to take her to a movie. When he did not return for a few hours, Imani Benton called police. By that time, Morgan had already left the park where the creek was. According to the prosecutor, Morgan went from the park to a friend’s house. There, he had a few drinks, gave away his car and some other belongings, and headed for a nearby train station.
He was arrested a week later, mere miles from the Mexican border in California. On Monday he stood in court, stone-faced and calm, answering to the charge of murder.…

Canton, GA – Last Friday, 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera disappeared while playing with friends at the apartment complex where she lives. Yesterday her dead body was found inside a dumpster.
Rivera was playing with other children at the River Ridge apartment’s playground when she told them she was going inside to get drinks. When she never returned police were contacted who began searching the area that evening, handing out flyers and interviewing known sex offenders who lived in the area.
By Monday morning the girl still had not been located and a 50-member team made up of GBI agents, Georgia State Patrol troopers, Department of Natural Resources rangers and other state officers specially trained in child abductions were assisting local police and firefighters in their search for Rivera.
At around 12:30 p.m., Rivera had been found. Her dead body had been found inside a dumpster located at the apartment complex. She had been severely beaten and sexually assaulted before being tossed like garbage. The dumpster was located within a short distance to the playground Rivera was last seen, but had not been searched until Monday.…

DETROIT, MI – Two years ago I posted about Sharon Hinojosa, the 29-year-old woman accused of intentionally setting fire to her mobile home with her two children inside, killing them both. Earlier this month she was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of Anthony, 4, and Alayna, 3. Yesterday she was sentenced to life in prison.
For those of you who missed this, back in October 2009, Hinojosa escaped from the blazing mobile home she shared with her boyfriend, clutching the couple’s 1-year-old. She left her two children from a different man inside the trailer and they would die screaming in the flames.
Her actions on the night of the fire immediately drew suspicion. She didn’t scream for help until the fire was well underway, and one neighbor said she didn’t mention her other two kids until asked. Even after informing would-be rescuers her two children were inside, she wouldn’t provide specific details as to where they were in the mobile home they may be. Neighbors tried their best to rescue the two children who were still alive as the trailer went up in flames.…

ATLANTA, Ga. - Police have shot a woman to death after they found her sitting in a chair stabbing her daughter repeatedly and refusing to stop.
Police were called to the unidentified woman’s home after she threw her 8-year-old son out of a window. The boy ran to a neighbor asking for help, saying that his mother was trying to kill him.
When police arrived at the home and broke down the door, they found the woman sitting in a chair repeatedly stabbing her young, disabled daughter. Police ordered her to stop, but she refused and police opened fire.
Police have not said if the 4-year-old girl was struck by a bullet, but did report between 10 to 16 shots were fired. Both the woman and her daughter died at the scene, while the boy who was tossed out a window only suffered minor injuries.
No word on a motive, but a neighbor told reporters the woman had issues and was going through some hard times, unable to afford electricity, rent or even food.…

Greenesboro, NC – Here’s one from my neck of the woods. A woman unhappy with her life and upset over the failed relationship between her and her married boyfriend, went on a shooting rampage Sunday leaving three dead, including herself and one of her sons, and four wounded.
Reports are that 36-year-old Mary Ann Holder had been in a four year relationship with a very married Randall Lamb, 40. But this relationship had come to an end, and it had gotten nasty. Both Lamb and his wife, Jennifer, had filed a restraining order against Holder, and Holder had filed one against the Lambs. Holder was also facing a lawsuit as Jennifer was suing her for alienation of affection. In case you didn’t know, in my state a married person can sue the person their spouse had an affair with.
On Sunday things came to an unbelievably selfish end when Holder arranged to meet Lamb in a public parking lot. Once there, Holder shot at Lamb multiple times but only succeeded in hitting him in the shoulder.…

Clearwater, Florida - Yesterday a jury found a high powered executive for Jabil Circuit guilty of the 2008 shooting deaths of his wife and her lover.
Patrick Evans was in the middle of a divorce from Elizabeth, his wife of three years, when he busted into her Gulfport condo and found his estranged wife naked in the bed with her boyfriend, Gerry Taylor.
A 911 call was made from Elizabeth’s cordless phone, although no one speaks to the operator. In it you can hear Evans arguing with the pair before they are shot to death.
“Get on the bed,” Evans instructs the couple.
“Rick put the gun down. This is ridiculous, I am putting on a robe,” says Elizabeth.
“Get on the bed, Gerry!” Evans yells.
“I’ll sit down if you put down the gun,” Taylor responds.
Taylor is then shot in the throat at close range.
“Help help!” Elizabeth cries.
Then, instead of begging or pleading this asshole for her life, she asks her husband: ”Are you out of your fucking mind?”
She is then shot at close range.…
