Police Charge Internet Celebrity, Kai The Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker, With The Murder Of New Jersey LawyerMay 17, 2013 at 8:35 am by Agony In Black
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Police have arrested the Internet ‘celebrity’ known as “Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker” and have charged him with the murder of a New Jersey lawyer.
Kai, better known to his friends and relatives as 24-year-old Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, was tagged with the less-than catchy nickname after he used a hatchet to subdue a man who tried to run over a California utility worker in February.
A rambling, profanity-laced interview with the local media went viral, sparking his rise to low-level internet stardom that included appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Authorities believe McGillvary killed 73-year-old Joseph Galfy after after the two met in Times Square Saturday night. Prosecutors allege Galfy brought McGillvary back to his house in Clark, NJ, for a sexual encounter.
On Monday, Galfy’s body was found by police conducting a well-being check. Galfy was discovered wearing only his socks and underwear. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
McGillvary posted on Facebook Tuesday, presenting the idea of waking up in a stranger’s house, groggy and having been raped in the mouth.…Continue Reading
TAMPA, FL – John Welden, a 28-year-old pre-med student at the University of South Florida, has been accused of killing his unborn child by tricking his pregnant girlfriend into taking an abortion pill.
Weldon’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Remee Lee, says that when she learned she was pregnant, Welden took her to see his father, an OB/GYN. A sonogram and blood test would confirm that Lee was six-weeks pregnant. The next day, Welden called her saying that the blood tests revealed she had a bacterial infection and would need to start taking Amoxicillin, an antibiotic.
But a federal indictment states Welden had figured out a heinous way to get rid of the baby he did not want, and forged his father’s signature for a prescription pill that can terminate pregnancies. He then switched the labels to make the bottle look like it contained Lee’s antibiotics.
On Good Friday, he showed up with a care package that contained her antibiotic prescription. “He told me to keep taking them. I was supposed to take three a day for days,” she recalled of Welden’s instructions.…Continue Reading
Nashuah, NH – The 2-year-old boy who suffered a head injury two weeks ago has died and now his mother, 21-year-old Unique Gould, is facing manslaughter charges.
Prosecutors say that on April 25, Unique used her hand to repeatedly hit Devon on the head, face, and buttocks. ”Gould made admissions that she ‘blacked out’ at one point, and admitted to hitting (him) very hard,” said Detective Marc Anderson.
Following the beating, Devon became unresponsive and slept for 18 to 20 hours. Being the brilliant woman she is, she tried to rouse Devon by shaking him and placing him in the shower. Gold only called 911 after family members and roommates threatened to do so themselves if she didn’t.
Devon was rushed to a Massachusetts hospital where it was determined he had a catastrophic brain injury and was suffering from inter-cranial bleeding. Unique was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.
Those charges would be upgraded to manslaughter on Monday after Devon passed away upon removal from life support last week. As of this time, no explanation has been provided as to why she did this, not that there could possibly be a reason that would justify the unthinkable violence she inflicted on her son.…Continue Reading
Los Angeles, CA – Last Thursday morning, 63-year-old Pamela Devitt was brutally mauled to death by several pit bulls while out jogging. Now police are investigating Devitt’s death as a possible homicide.
A passing motorist saw Devitt laying face down on the ground while several of the dogs were attacking her. She tried honking her horn to scare the dogs away, but they attacked her car, biting its tires. The driver called 911 and the responding officer tried to chase the dogs away, but was also attacked. The deputy fired a round at the dog which ran off into the desert.
But it was too late for Devitt. The poor woman had been dragged 50 yards, scalped, and had one of her arms ripped off. She would die in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Devitt, a married mother of two, often went jogging in the morning.
Police would seize six pit bulls and two mixed-breed dogs at the home of 29-year-old Alex Jackson after receiving information from Animal Control that he owned pit bulls that have been aggressive in the past.…Continue Reading
Valley Springs, CA – Police arrested 12-year-old Isaiah Fowler on Saturday and will be charging him with the death of his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler, who was murdered last month.
On April 27, the Isaiah and Leila were home alone when Leila was stabbed more than twenty times inside their home. The brother told police he saw a man with long grey hair leaving their home and found his sister suffering from multiple stab wounds. A neighbor also told police they’d also seen the man running from the scene.
Police began an intensive search for the suspect while residents were told he was considered armed and dangerous and instructed to lock their doors as deputies searched the area. Authorities searched the home and neighborhood, while dive teams searched two reservoirs near the house.
Aside from possible fingerprints and DNA found in the home, and a possible link to an abduction attempt in a nearby town, police didn’t seem to be getting any closer to finding the person responsible. But in a statement issued Saturday, Sheriff Gary Kuntz informed the public they could sleep safely as they’d found the person responsible – Isaiah Fowler.…Continue Reading
CARY, NC — Police have charged 61-year-old Dottie Amtey with murder after they say she strangled her 77-year-old husband to death.
Police were dispatched to the home of Dottie and Shared after an unidentified woman called 911 Wednesday night. When police arrived at the home, they found Shared unconscious in an upstairs bedroom with someone on the phone with 911 trying to perform CPR in an unsuccessful attempt to revive him.
Police initially said Dottie would be charged with first-degree murder, but the Wake County District Attorney’s Office is considering charging her with second-degree murder.
The couple had been married for over 30 years and had five children together. Dottie was recently employed at UCB Pharma, and Shared was a research physicist, with career stops at universities and a massive government research project.
Cary officials say this is the first homicide they’ve had in their town in nearly two years.
While no motive has been released, there’s enough information in this article regarding the couple that makes it easy to speculate that this was probably some kind of mercy killing, and could also explain why prosecutors are considering the lesser murder charge.…Continue Reading
DARLINGTON, WI – Jaren Kuester, a 31-year-old man with a history of mental problems, has been arrested and charged with beating three elderly people to death with a fireplace poker.
According to reports, Kuester was arrested after threatening staff members at a Waukesha County animal shelter. Staff there said Kuester demanded that the dead dog he’d dropped off a few weeks earlier be returned to him alive. He told them they would pay with their lives when they did not oblige.
After making bail, he got in his vehicle and started driving, feeling as if his life was “crashing and burning” around him. After driving three counties away, he felt as if he was being followed, so he abandoned his vehicle, stripped off his clothes, and ran into the woods.
He ended up getting cold and broke into the farmhouse of Gary Thoreson, 70, and Chloe Thoreson, 66, who were not at home. After getting clothes, food, and searching for valuables, Kuester went to sleep on a bedroom floor. Sometime after, 70-year-old Dean Thoreson, Gary’s brother, arrived and entered the home.…Continue Reading
Newport News, VA - Carl Cottee Jr., 23, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, according to police.
Police were called to a home where Cottee had been caring for Madyson Van Cleave Hook while her mother was out. There they found the girl in a bedroom not breathing and showing signs of trauma to her body, according to police spokesperson Holly McPherson.
The child was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead from blunt head trauma. Madyson’s grandmother was initially told the girl’s death was an accident, and that Madyson got dizzy after taking a bath, passed out and then hit her head.
But that does not explain the bruises and multiple skull fractures the family would later learn the girl had suffered. ”It’s horrible I just can’t imagine her going through that pain,” her grandmother said. “I can hear her saying, ‘I love my Nan Nan.’”
Want to hear something infuriating? Madyson’s grandmother also said there was suspicion the girl was being abused after Madyson complained of being locked in a dresser and being left alone.…Continue Reading
Lecanto, FL – Chelsea Huggett, 21, is behind bars after police say she confessed to getting so angry at her 2-year-old’s “whining” that she slammed the girl’s head into a wall, killing her.
Police were called to Huggett’s home on April 26, where her daughter, 2-year-old Aliyah Marie Branum, was found not breathing and unresponsive. Huggett initially blamed her boyfriend for the child’s condition, saying that her daughter had ingested bug spray he had spilled.
Aliyah was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. What the medical staff found did not back up Huggett’s bug spray story, however. Not by a long shot.
Aliyah had bruises all over her body, including her face, head, arms, legs, back, shoulders, and vaginal area. One eye was swollen shut, blood was coming out of mouth and nose, and yellow fluid was coming from both ears.
The medical examiner would find Aliyah suffered a frontal skull fracture above the right eye, and hemorrhaging over her entire brain area. He would state the cause of death as blunt force trauma, and rule Aliyah’s death a homicide.…Continue Reading
Richardson, TX - Police have arrested Hector Cupich-Quinones, 35, and Maria Zuniga, 37, after the couple allegedly beat their crying 5-month-old girl to death over the weekend.
Authorities were called to the couple’s home about 5:30 a.m. Sunday after the couple, who are deaf and cannot speak, woke up to find their daughter was having problems breathing. The responding officer performed CPR on the baby and noticed suspicious bruises on the infant.
After the child was taken to the hospital, she was pronounced dead about 10 p.m. Hospital staff told police they suspected abuse after discovering bruises on the baby’s chest, back and both arms. She had also suffered massive trauma to the back of her head.
When investigators questioned the couple about their child’s injuries, they admitted they had beaten the child because they could not get her to stop crying. I know, they’re deaf. But supposedly, after drinking, Cupich-Quinones became angry over the vibrations being created by his daughter’s crying.
In an attempt to stop the vibrations, Cupich-Quinones shook the baby in an attempt to stop her from creating them.…Continue Reading
Phoenix, AZ – Police say 36-year-old Nina Koistinen, a mother of nine, admitted she murdered her six day old daughter because she had too many kids.
After her daughter’s death on April 8, Koistinen initially said that she’d taken some medication and had fallen asleep on the girl while feeding her. It wasn’t until an autopsy was performed and revealed possible signs of suffocation, that police decided to dig deeper.
They found that Koistinen had made past statements about wanting to smother some of her children and, after a car accident that seemed intentional, stated she wanted her children to go to Heaven.
After interviewing Koistinen a second time, she admitted she’d smothered the child by pinching her nose and covering her mouth. She said she murdered her daughter because she already had too many children and was jealous of the attention the infant was getting from her husband.
She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. During her initial court appearance, Koistinen’s husband told the judge that his wife has suffers from bipolar, schizophrenia and depression. He said that they have tried to manage it for years… by having nine children.…Continue Reading
Port St. Lucie, FL — Tyler Hadley, the teen accused of beating his parents to death with a hammer then threw a party, has filed a notice declaring he will rely on an insanity plea in his upcoming trial.
For those of you who do not remember this psycho and what he did to his parents, let me refresh your memory. According to Hadley’s best friend, Michael Mandell, the teen had repeatedly talked about killing his parents, 47-year-old Mary Jo Hadley and 54-year-old Blake Hadley, but no one took him seriously until July 16, 2011.
That’s when Hadley sent out Facebook invitations to a party he was throwing at his house. ”Party at my crib tonight … maybe,” he posted on Facebook at 1:15 p.m. July 16, about four hours before the homicides. He updated at 8:15 p.m.: “Party at my house, hmu (“hit me up” or “contact me”).”
During this party, Hadley told his best friend that he’d killed his parents earlier that day. Not believing him, Hadley took Mandell to his parents bedroom where Mandell could see the legs of Hadley’s father sticking out from underneath a pile of household items.…Continue Reading
Dallas, TX – Aaron Ramsey, the 35-year-old man who starved his 10-year-old son to death, has been found guilty by a Dallas County jury and was sentenced to life in prison.
If you don’t remember the death of Jonathan Ramsey, let me refresh your memory and quite possibly ruin your morning.
Back in 2011, police began looking into the disappearance of Jonathan Ramsey after the child’s grandfather contacted them, concerned that the boy had not been seen in almost a year.
Police questioned the boy’s father, Aaron Ramsey, and his 31-year-old stepmother, Elizabeth Ramsey. Eventually they would admit that the boy was dead and that Aaron had disposed of his body in an unknown location.
According to Elizabeth, she and Aaron began starving the Jonathan in March 2011 after the boy allegedly punched her in the stomach while she was pregnant with triplets, supposedly causing her to lose the babies.
That’s when Aaron locked Johnathan in a bedroom and only fed him bread, water, and occasionally milk. Jonathan went from 90-pounds to 60-pounds and, according to the affidavit, he was so hungry that he ate his own feces.…Continue Reading
Jaiden Respicio was taken by ambulance to OU Children’s Hospital Sunday morning where he was pronounced dead. Police say doctors told them the traumatic internal injuries Jaiden suffered were consistent with abuse.
When Jennifer Respicio was questioned by police, she admitted she was the one that caused the injuries to her son. She was arrested and charged with first degree murder.
Jaiden was actually in the custody of his grandmother, Jennifer’s mother, but she had to work on Sunday and left Jennifer to care for her son, along with her 15-year-old boyfriend. Police Capt. Jody Suit said the father of the boy is 15-years-old but is not believed to have been involved in the death.
None of the articles I read specified if the 15-year-old boy who was in the home when Jaiden was injured was also Jaiden’s father, but in any case, the only person police feel is responsible for the boy’s death is Jennifer.…Continue Reading
Police responded to the home the couple had shared for nearly 40 years Wednesday, after receiving a call from Annie’s granddaughter.
Annie apparently called her granddaughter just before 1:00 p.m. and told her she had hurt the victim, Ronald, pretty bad. She went on to say that while her husband was helping her out with something, he hit her on the hand and began “talking smart” to her. She “lost it,” she said, and hit him upside the head with a baseball bat and cut him with a knife.
According to police, they found Ronald lying in a pool of blood. It appeared as if he had suffered from a bit of blunt force trauma to the head — officers observed part of his skull exposed. Blood spatter and brain matter were apparently evident on the floors and wall.
Annie was found in another bedroom, getting dressed. Officers noted she had blood spatter on her shoes and a piece of human tissue on her forehead.…Continue Reading
APOPKA, FL – Police have charged 23-year-old Rony Veus with the murder of his 1-year-old daughter, saying that he admitted to abusing his daughter because he liked to cause her pain.
Police responding to a home after a 911 call about a girl who wasn’t breathing, found Veus performing CPR on his daughter. He told them he found her not breathing and unconscious.
The infant was rushed to the hospital where she remained in a coma with bleeding on the brain until Saturday when the girl died. Staff told investigators that they suspected the girl had been abused, so investigators interviewed Veus.
During this interview, Veus admitted he has thoughts of harming his daughter and feels relieved when he causes her pain or discomfort. He said he’s acted on these thoughts by pulling her hair, pushing her down, forcing her to eat cinnamon, and burning her with a cigar.
Veus also told police he suffers from depression and schizophrenia and he needs mental help. Veus’ mother said she never thought her son could abuse his daughter, but had suspected something was going on.…Continue Reading
Police arrived at his home, they found the 64-year-old covered with blood with wounds to his chest. Inside the home, his wife and son were found stabbed to death in separate rooms.
Maraventano told police that he used to “frequented with prostitutes” and thought he had contracted HIV or another disease and passed it on to his wife. When his wife got sick recently, and tests revealed it was not cancer, Maraventano assumed she was suffering from a nasty disease he may have picked up from a whore.
Not wanting his wife to suffer, or possibly not wanting her to find out she was suffering from an STD she contracted from her husband, Maraventano decided he must kill her to end her suffering. So, while she was sleeping, he stabbed her twice with a a 14-inch kitchen knife.
He then decided he must kill his 27-year-old son because he didn’t think he could make it without his parents.…Continue Reading
Police say Michael Lucero, 20, was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and formally charged with the child’s death.
A criminal complaint was filed by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office alleging Lucero committed abuse of the toddler that resulted in the boy’s death while the boy’s mother was at work.
According to court documents, the injured toddler was brought to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana after he lost consciousness at his home in the 1100 block of East Philadelphia Street Thursday shortly after midnight.
Police officers were called after hospital officials reported a child had been brought in with life-threatening injuries. After being evaluated, paramedics rushed the boy to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he died later that morning.
“This investigation is still ongoing,” said police spokesman Cpl. Bill Russell. “Detectives are trying to determine if there was a propensity for violence and if anyone else knew this was occurring.”
Police have said Lucero babysat his girlfriend’s child while she was working, and the boy’s mother hasn’t been labeled a suspect at this time.…Continue Reading
New York, NY – Philip Ward was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1994 after he admitted to shooting his girlfriend to death in front her 11-year-old daughter, then raping the child. While incarcerated, he admitted to the 1989 murder of Veronica Bowen, his 21-year-old pregnant girlfriend found naked and headless on a Manhattan apartment rooftop.
Ward, 46, pleaded guilty to the murder on March 22 and on Friday, he was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison that will run consecutive to the sentence he is already serving.
Ward and Bowen met while in foster care as teenagers. Although they had two children, their relationship was pocked with domestic violence, leading to Bowen moving out of the apartment and leaving her children in Ward’s care. On the night she was murdered, Bowen was at Ward’s apartment to visit her children. She was six weeks pregnant and Ward said he did not believed the child was his.
After Ward talked Bowen into accompany him to the building’s roof, where they first had sex, he flew into a jealous rage.…Continue Reading
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – When police arrived at a Colorado Springs apartment to investigate a disturbance and spotted a bloody butcher knife laying on the counter, Ellyzabeth Rainey did the Peyton-Manning-like thing, and called an audible.
Holding up her two-month-old daughter, Rainey told them, “Take my baby,” court papers say. “Because I am going to run.” Then she threw the child at them, and took off.
Running didn’t work out to well, as cops caught up with her almost immediately in the complex’s courtyard, where they questioned the 19-year-old concerning her strange behavior. In an arrest affidavit, officers say she told them, “Because I just murdered someone.”
That someone turned out to be Deborah Rainey, 59, the suspect’s mother-in-law. Ellyzabeth was arrested Wednesday afternoon for her murder.
According to court documents, Deborah Rainey was in town visiting from San Francisco, staying at her son Jason’s apartment to help take care of his and Ellyzabeth’s baby. Ellyzabeth said that the couple were estranged, and planned to get divorced. Guess that’s a done-deal now.…Continue Reading
