Boston, MA – Annie Dookhan, a 34-year-old chemist who has worked as a crime lab chemist for nine years, and whose work has been associated with the cases of over 34,000 defendants, is accused of falsifying results and cutting some major corners.

This is not a typical Puma write-up.  There are no beheadings, no naked lunatics, no masturbatory shenanigans.  It is, however, a pretty significant story, if only because of its impact on so many criminal cases.

Dookhan was known as a “superwoman” at William A. Hinton State Laboratory Institute, completing more tests than her colleagues by a ton, having a seemingly unstoppable drive to please prosecutors, police, and her bosses, and often working long hours without putting in for overtime.

Suspicions about Dookhan started swirling a full four years ago, with people wondering how she could possibly plow through 500 samples in a month while her colleagues were only able to test 50 to 150, and her supervisor complaining that he hardly ever saw her in front of a microscope. …

Salem, MA – Angelique Griffin, a 25-year-old DB’s Golden Banana strip club worker and mother of 3-year-old twins, has been charged with motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence of alcohol in a fatal collision that occurred on June 16th at about 4 AM.

Police reports indicate that Griffin got behind the wheel of her PT Cruiser against her better judgement when it was time to leave a gathering with her friends.  She claims to have had two beers and two “very strong” Red Bull vodka drinks, but that she felt she was in better shape to drive than any of the other candidates.  Griffin offered Dillon Renard, who would have turned 20 at the end of this month, a ride home even though she did not seem to know him very well.  He got into the front passenger seat.

While driving down Boston Road in Salem, Griffin claims that Renard was trying to get to know her a little better, making unwelcome sexual advances while she was driving.  “He would not stop touching me,” she said. …

Woman Posing As A Boy Tricks Girl Into Sex

June 12, 2012 at 12:13 pm by

Charleston, WV – 24-year-old Carissa Hads, of Quincy, Massachusetts, was arrested on May 24th, charged with coercion or enticement of a minor, after allegedly tricking a 15-year-old West Virginia girl into believing she was a 17-year-old boy named James Puryear Wilson.

This is going to be a pronoun-induced nightmare for me, so I’m begging you to bear with me and not purposefully misinterpret what I’m trying to convey.  If you do, I will cyber-stalk you, posing as a 6’2″, 200 lb. she-male named Gertrude.

Hads is believed to have had multiple sexual encounters with the girl, one of which involved a prosthetic, flesh-colored penis.  W00t.

This Boys Don’t Cry-esque drama began to unfold back in 2010 when “Wilson” reportedly met 15-year-old “A.L.” on Facebook, where Hads was apparently claiming to be a “youth pastor” and the father of twins.  “He” posted a picture of the children which, as it turns out, was actually lifted from an advertisement.  “Wilson’s” Facebook page, interestingly enough, stated that “he” was “looking for some people to talk to.…

HAVERHILL, Mass. – In a landmark case out of Massachusetts, 18-year-old Aaron Deveau was convicted of causing a fatal accident while texting.

He was sentenced to one year in jail and becoming the first person in that state to be convicted of a new criminal charge, texting while driving negligently and causing injury, that just took effect in September 2010.

Last February, a then 17-year-old Deveau was driving a car that crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Donald Bowley, who would die from his injuries a few weeks later.

During his trial it was revealed that Deveau had sent 193 texts from his mobile phone on the day of the accident. Deveau testified that he never sent any of the texts while driving, that he drifted into the wrong lane while thinking about homework. Police say this is not true, and they had phone records showing some of the texts sent from Deveau’s phone were done so moments before the fatal collision.…

Shirley, Mass. — Someone emailed us this story about a pit bull named Lily that was hit by a train after dragging an unconscious woman off some railroad tracks. They asked that we post about it to show not all pit bulls are murderous baby rapers.

So here goes.

A pit bull’s attempts to push a woman in front of a moving train were unsuccessful and the dog ended up getting hit by the train instead.

According to one website owner, the dog probably crept up behind the woman as she walked along the tracks in an attempt to push her into the path of an oncoming train.

“Blood lust must have clouded the pit bull’s calculations, causing the pushed woman to fall away from the tracks and was knocked unconscious,” said the man who tracks pit bull incidents in hopes of thwarting their attempts to take over the world in the name of Satan. “The dog was probably so enraged at its failure to remove another human from the planet, that it was unable to get out of the train’s path in time and was struck.”

Because of powers only bestowed upon the Devil’s minions, the pit bull only suffered a  fractured pelvis and a leg that will have to be amputated.…

Providence, RI — Police have confirmed that the body found in a backyard storage shed of a home in Rhode Island does belong to the autistic teen who went missing in Massachusetts last month.

Joseph Webster, 19, was last seen at a Motel 6 on March 13.  His family became increasingly worried when the teen never returned home because he had never stayed out overnight before.

He also suffered from mild autism and severe diabetes that required him to take insulin every eight hours. Even more distressing was the fact that Webster did not have enough insulin with him to survive the length of time he had been missing.

Police would eventually arrest 19-year-old James Howze and 22-year-old Lara Corey in connection to the teen’s disappearance, accusing the pair of assaulting Webster and stealing his car.

Corey had been staying in Room 214 at the Motel 6 where Webster was last seen and at the time he vanished. Prosecutors said blood and a shovel were found at the hotel and Howze had tried selling Webster’s car in Rhode Island.…

TURNERS FALLS, MA — Police have arrested six people in connection to the abduction and beating of a homeless teenager.

According to Montague Police Staff Sergeant Chip Dodge, a family got pissed after their 14-year-old daughter told them she had been hit by Branden Stebbins, a 19-year-old homeless teenager.

The girl’s mother, Dawn Shafer, decided not to contact police and inform them of her daughter’s allegations and reportedly asked a few friends to help her track down Stebbins and give him the what-for.

When they finally found the teen in a park, the group decided to dole out a bit of street justice. After duct taping the teen, they placed him in their vehicle and brought him back to their home where a neighbor watched seven people beat Stebbins with baseball bats.

Before police arrived, the group placed Stebbins back in the vehicle and had already left the scene. This is also about the time that Johny Lopez, one of Stebbins’ attackers and the alleged ringleader, threatened to rape and murder Stebbins.…

Boston, MA – Dr. Colette Vieau and her family, a husband and two young daughters, had boarded a JetBlue flight back to Boston from the luxurious island of Turks and Caicos when they were told to get off.  The reason?  Their two-year-old, Natalie, was throwing a fit and refused to be seated.

In a courageous show of force, the girl’s parents finally managed to wrangle the beast and restrain her with a seat belt, holding her in place.  Dr. Vieau, who states her family were never belligerent, angry or screaming, then said to a flight attendant, “We have them seated.  Can we go now?”

It was at that point that the flight attendant informed them the pilot had already decided, for the safety of all customers and crewmembers on board, that the family be removed from the plane.

JetBlue released a statement explaining the pilot came to this decision because the family “did not comply with crewmember instructions for a prolonged time period.”

There were no more flights that night, and the family reports that they spent $2,000 for a hotel and new flights. …

DOUGLAS, MA — Police say a woman jumped to her death from a second-floor window while trying to get away from her raging husband and now he’s been charged with manslaughter.

Last Thursday night, 44-year-old Lisa Stilkey and her husband, 40-year-old Alan Stilkey, got into a heated argument. During part of this argument, Lisa was on the phone her son who said he heard Alan yelling, “When you get off the phone, I’m going to kill you.”

A short time after this phone call, Lisa threw a pillow out a second-story window and then followed behind it. It was not a smooth landing. She suffered severe injuries from the fall and was pronounced dead at the hospital the next day.

Alan, an arm wrestling champion, has been charged with manslaughter, assault and battery and threat to commit a crime. He has pleaded not guilty.

FBI Chainsaws Wrong Door During Morning Drug Raid

February 4, 2012 at 12:12 pm by

Fitchburg, MA – A Massachusetts woman experienced the business end of an FBI chainsaw when she made the mistake of renting an apartment in the same building and floor as a suspected drug dealer.

Fitchburg – long considered the Medellín of the Northeast – was the scene of a massive citywide drug and weapons gang raid last Thursday. At 6AM, just before Judy Sanchez’ alarm was set to go off, she heard a pounding outside her second floor apartment.  This prompted her to get out of bed to investigate.

“I just happened to glance over and saw this huge chainsaw ripping down the side of my [apartment] door,” Sanchez explained. “And I was freaking out. I didn’t know what was going on.”

As soon as the chainsaw had cut through most of her door, a member of the FBI arrest team kicked it in.

“That’s when I heard the clicking of a gun and I heard ‘FBI, get down!’, so I laid right on down.”

The FBI reportedly told the woman to get control of her three-month-old pit bull puppy, which she did.…

Kinston, NC – According to police, Krystal Jones, 24, was preoccupied by her huffing when she drove her car into a building in Kinston, North Carolina.

The building – which had reportedly been a pet store – was being renovated to become a church. More ‘renovation’ is now needed, as Jones squarely smashed it all to hell.

Jones was jailed on a $1,000 bond and, at last report, was still in custody. Police charged her with careless and reckless driving, driving left of the center line and inhaling toxic vapors.

The ‘driving left of the center line’ thing may seem like grasping. It turns out that some grasping was necessary as, North Carolina authorities say, she can not be charged with DWI because the physiological artifacts of huffing dissipate too quickly for impairment to be established post-incident.

It is unfortunate that – apparently – driving through a freakin’ building isn’t a crime…

That said, the fact of the matter is that this incident turned out comparatively well. This case comes on the heals of a couple of more tragic cases.…

Plaistow, NH — Barry Short, 22, of Massachusetts was arrested New Year’s morning after he allegedly drove past a New Hampshire police car in a Ford Focus with only three tires.

“Officer Jason Mazza observed a vehicle on Route 125 drive slowly by,” deputy police Chief Kathleen Jones said. “[The patrol officer] heard a loud noise and observed the car was missing the rear driver’s side tire, driven on its rim only. It wasn’t flat, there was no tire on it at all.”

Officer Jason Mazza pulled Short over and approached. Shockingly, the officer reported smelling a ‘strong odor of alcohol.’ Mazza questioned Short and noted that he appeared ‘disoriented.’

“Short believed at the time of the stop that he was in Methuen, Massachusetts,” Jones said. “He told the officer he couldn’t find a jack to change his tire, but couldn’t explain why there was no tire on the car.”

After failing a field sobriety test, a police search of the vehicle yielded a substance suspected to be marijuana and some paraphernalia.…
