INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A community is reeling after a 14-year-old girl stabbed her 4-year-old cousin to death.
According to reports, Leon “Tater” Thomas III and his 11-year-old sister were at their grandparents, where their 14-year-old cousin also lived, when the stabbing took place.
The kids were in a front room of the two-story apartment while the grandparents were upstairs. Leon’s sister ran upstairs to get them when the older girl’s temper started to get out of control over reasons unknown. When she returned downstairs, she found that her cousin had repeatedly stabbed Leon.
The boy was rushed to the hospital, but would die later that day. The 14-year-old suspect was found shortly afterward walking down the street several blocks away, covered in blood.
She was taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center on a preliminary charge of murder. Her detention hearing is scheduled to take place today, where it will be decided if she should remain detained and when prosecutors can ask that she be transferred to adult court.
The girl as an eight-grader at John Marshall Community High School who neighbors describe as a “sweet, quiet girl.” They say she belonged to the church and participated in youth programs and the choir.…
