Sheena Cornwell Facing Torture Charges After Hanging Her Dog For Barking

Des Moines, IA - Sheena Cornwell is facing animal torture charges after she callously killed her dog by using the dog’s leash to hang it in the garage.
Joshua VanDyke said Cornwell was upset with Lillie, a 15-year-old pit bull, barking inside the garage. He said that he watched Cornwell enter the garage with the dog’s collar. He said she returned 10 minutes later, stating: ‘She’s dead, I killed her.’
After rushing into the garage and finding Lillie hanging hanging from the rafters, he called 911. When police arrived, they found Lillie dead, hanging from her leash.
“This is the first time I’ve seen a dog strung up like that. The dog deserved better than that.” Des Moines Police Officer Greg Catron said.
Cornwell told police that Lillie had medical issues and would die soon anyway. “She did not appear to be remorseful. She said she saw nothing wrong with her actions,” Catron said. “She didn’t think there was anything wrong with the way she put this dog to death.”
Sheena Cornwell was arrested and charged with one count of animal torture.…

St-Louis, MO - Police say 2-year-old Mason Gorse died on Monday after he got caught in the cord of window blinds in his bedroom.
Apparently, Gorse was in his bedroom when he climbed on to his window sill and got caught in the nylon cord of the blinds. His mother found him hanging from his neck, several feet off the ground. A family member performed CPR on Gorse until paramedics arrived, but the boy was pronounced dead at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
Homicide detectives investigated, but said the death appears to be a tragic accident.
For any of you not aware, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that since 1991, more than 175 infants and children have died after accidentally strangling in window blind cords. According to Parents for Window Blind Safety, 546 children have been strangled by window blind cords since 1983.
Look, I was far from the perfect parent, and I seriously doubt you could completely prep your home to the point that a 2-year-old couldn’t find some way to accidentally kill themselves.…

Portland, OR – A 15-year-old boy is still clinging to life after hanging himself from some playground equipment at Central Elementary School.
Last Saturday, Jadin Bell was found by a passerby after the teen had climbed on top of a play structure and hanged himself. The person who found Bell tried rescuing the teen who was taken to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital where he remains on life support.
Reports are that Bell is an openly gay student at LHS where he is also a cheerleader. Even though he has a supportive family and large network of friends, Bell has been the target of bullying, reportedly in person and online.
School administrators confirmed that Bell had recently spoken with a school counselor and that they were investigating “a name calling incident.” In light of Bell’s attempted suicide, they’e also concerned about the other teen who was involved. Friends say that Bell had complained about bullying before, but that they have a hard time believing that this is what lead to Bell trying to take his own life.…

HUDSON, FL -- Pasco County authorities say 16-year-old Jessica Laney hanged herself Sunday night, and some of her friends say cyber-bullying is to blame.
According to one of her friends, Laney attended Fivay High School after being transferred there due to bullying at her previous high school. But they say the bullying that led to Laney killing herself did not come from her new school, but rather from anonymous people online. In particular, members of the website Ask.fm.
For the un-initiated, Ask.fm is a social site where users can invite questions and comments from other members, anonymously. Laney’s page is full of the standard crap you would expect on a cute 16-year-old girl’s page, but also contains some disparaging comments from anonymous users calling her fat and a loser. Some even tell teh girl no one cares about her and instruct Laney to hurry up and kill herself.
Her friends say these negative comments are what led the girl to hang herself Sunday night, although official from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says neither Laney’s parents nor Laney’s boyfriend were aware of Laney being bullied.…

Fremont, CA – A California man is behind bars after police say he tied up his girlfriend and tried hanging her from a tree in his backyard.
Police say 31-year old Daniel Howard got angry at his girlfriend so he zip-tied her hands behind her back, and strung a noose over a branch of a backyard tree. After telling her he was going to kill her, he walked back inside to get a cigarette.
The woman used this opportunity to dig her cell phone out of her pocket and call 911. The operator had a hard time understanding her, but the woman was able to relay Howard’s address.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the woman and Howard still in the backyard. The woman was being forced to stand on a barrel with the noose now around her neck.When police confronted Howard, he allegedly used the woman’s body as a shield before pushing her off the barrel and attempting to run away.
Luckily, the officers were able to catch the woman before she was seriously injured.…

RAGLAND, AL – Police have charged a 14-year-old with the murder of his 9-year-old half-sister who was found dead on Thursday, hanging from a tree in her family’s backyard.
Katelynn Arnold’s aunt became concerned when she did not return home from a bicycle ride around the neighborhood on Thursday and started looking for her. She did not find her with any of the friends she normally played with and returned home to find the girl in the backyard, hanged from a tree with an old tire swing rope.
Rescuers removed the girl from the tree and rushed her to the hospital where she would be pronounced dead. An autopsy would show cause of death to be ligature strangulation. Investigators would immediately call the death “very suspicious” but would not say why. That is until early the next day when they arrested Katelynn’s 14-year-old half-brother and charged him with murder.
The teen has admitted to police that he killed the girl by hanging her from the tree and has provided them with a motive that they have yet to reveal to the public.…

Canton, GA — Just days after pleading guilty to the brutal murder of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, 20-year-old Ryan Brunn was found dead in his jail cell.
“Ryan Brunn was found unresponsive in his cell at 4:15 p.m.,” said Kristin Stancil, a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Corrections. “He was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 5:37 p.m. of an apparent suicide.”
Stancil would not say how Brunn died or whether he was under a suicide watch at the time of his death, but 11Alive is reporting that a source close to the investigation has revealed that Brunn committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell.
Jorelys’ father, Ricardo Galarza, told CNN en Espanol that learning of Brunn’s death partly made him “feel good but, on the other hand, it doesn’t because my daughter will never be with me again.”
He went on to say that he felt that a lifetime of Brunn being watched after, “eating three times a day (and) sleeping with air conditioning” while in prison was not enough.
“What I wanted was for them to put him in the electric chair and burn him,” Galarza said.…

Wayne City, IL — Roughly four hours after allegedly beating and choking his new wife so badly she had to be placed in a coma, an Illinois man was found dead.
35 year-old Charla Baker was married to 41 year-old Rodney Baker for less than a week before he allegedly choked her unconscious Wednesday morning. Her children woke up to the sound of her screams for help and witnessed Rodney fleeing out the front door. When police arrived, Mrs. Baker was found unresponsive and bleeding from the nose and mouth. They stated she also sustained a head injury.
She was brought by ambulance to the hospital where doctors place her in a medically-induced coma. Rodney’s body was found shortly after 8am by two farm workers, hanging from the steps of a grain bin, which is probably some farm-type apparatus I can’t be bothered to look up. Said Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor, “It appeared that he hanged himself in a hurried fashion very shortly after the incident… he first tried to use some clothing to make a rope, then found a piece of rope from a fishing net in the tool box of his truck.” Yikes.…

MARSHALL, Minn. — A small community is mourning the deaths of 14-year-old Haylee Fentress and 14-year-old Paige Moravetz, best friends who hanged themselves during a sleepover.
Moravetz was spending the night with Fentress Friday night and judging by some of their online activity, everything seemed pretty normal. Early Saturday morning, Fentress wished her cousin Happy Birthday on Facebook before calling a friend in Indiana. At around 6 a.m., Fentress’ mother found both of the girls had hanged themselves.
The girls had been planning this for awhile, leaving goodbye notes to their families and even giving instructions on how to handle their funerals. There has been no reports of bullying being mentioned in the suicide notes, but both girls reportedly complained of being bullied or ostracized at school. This hasn’t stopped some media outlets from posting that bullying was the sole reason why these girls made the decision to kill themselves, however.
Reportedly, the notes simply expressed love for their families and asked them not be sad over their deaths.…

LOUISVILLE, KY – An 8-year-old boy is still in intensive care today after he was found in his school’s bathroom, unresponsive and hanging from a hook in the handicapped stall.
I didn’t see this story when it first came out, and the early reports smacked a bit of bullying, but now that more details have been released I don’t think that’s the case. Here’s what is known about what happened last Wednesday at Frayser Elementary School.
The boy’s entire second-grade class had taken a scheduled, supervised bathroom break. A JCPS spokesperson says the boy went into the bathroom alone, and that it is policy that the main door remain open with a teacher standing right outside.
The teacher called for him after he had been in for some time but did not get an answer. A fellow student went inside to check on him but also got no response and found the door to the handicapped stall locked. Security was called to check on the boy, who went inside and found the boy hanging from a hook by his shirt inside the stall.…

Columbus, OH — Another sad story in the news today involving the accidental death of a 6-year-old boy who was accidentally hanged by a rope while playing on a slide.
The accident happened last Saturday afternoon as Noah was playing in the backyard of a friend’s house. He and his friends were playing with a rope that he somehow got wrapped around his neck as he went down a slide.
In a 911 call recording, one person was captured encouraging Noah, who had stopped breathing. “Come on, Noah. You got to come through, buddy,” the caller said as another neighbor performed CPR. “Come on. We’re here, buddy.”
Tragically, Noah would die an hour after arriving at Dublin Methodist Hospital. The preliminary coroner’s report indicates that Noah, a kindergartner at Bailey Elementary, died of ligature strangulation.
Police do not suspect foul play and believe that what happened was nothing other than a “tragic accident.”
Stories like this always remind me of that hot chick who almost hanged herself jumping from a swing.

NEW BOSTON, Mich – Rape charges have been dropped against an 18-year-old after his 14-year-old accuser committed suicide on Monday. Samantha Kelly accused Joe Tarnopolski of raping her two months ago, leading to Tarnopolski being charged with statutory rape. After Tarnopolski was released on bond, he was allowed to return to Huron High School where both he and Kelly attended. That’s when other students at the school began harassing and bullying Kelly to the point that she overdosed on pills. After spending a few days at a psychiatric facility, she convinced her mother into letting her return to school on Monday. That evening Kelly hung herself in her family’s mobile home after reportedly writing a message on her bedroom wall that included the date of her alleged rape. Now the charges against the boy she accused of raping her are being dropped and not surprisingly, Kelly’s friends and family are pretty pissed about it. Wayne County prosecutor’s spokeswoman Maria Miller said the case could not proceed “because the sole evidence … was the complainant.” I don’t know if the guy is guilty or not, but if I were him, I’d move.…

Woodbine, GA — Accused child molester Amy Mykkanen found the perfect solution to a lifetime of legal headaches – suicide. The 25-year-old woman was found hanging from an air conditioning unit in her cell early Friday morning. Jailed since mid-July, Mykkanen had been accused of having sexual contact with seven boys under the age of 16. Busy, busy! She was facing eight counts of child molestation, one count of statutory rape and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes. One of the victims was a 13-year-old family friend, and it was a complaint from the boy’s parents and grandparents that started the ball rolling. At the time of her arrest, when police executed search warrants at her home, laptop computers with cameras and digital cameras were seized as evidence. “She did leave a note saying she had planned this,” Camden County Sheriff Tommy Gregory said. “She didn’t let anybody know, and basically leaving a note to her parents and officers and inmates saying she was sorry for hurting them.” It is also being reported that Mykkanen’s husband, who is currently deployed at sea, filed for divorce soon after her arrest.…

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Brenda Looney was greeted by neighbors early Saturday morning who had stopped by to express their condolences regarding the death of Chico, the Looney’s 1-year-old Jack Russell terrier, who was hanging by his neck from a tree in the front yard. Chico had been tied to the tree overnight by a leash long enough for him to have access to the entire yard. Now that leash had been used to string him up by the neck, his feet a few feet from the ground. They feel whoever did it is a “cold and disturbed individual” who must have some kind of personal vendetta against them. According to Brenda, Chico often slept outside, tied to the tree all night when the whether was nice. I thought her comments of Chico being ornery and known to chew things he shouldn’t were probably closer to the real reason. That’s pure speculation, of course, and whether or not anyone thinks she is a bad dog owner, someone killed that poor dog in a very violent fashion.…

TOOELE, UTAH – Jacob McClatchy, 8, had finished eating dinner on Sunday and ran upstairs to change out of his church clothes so he could go outside and play with his older brother. After fifteen minutes, one of his brothers went to go check on what was taking Jacob so long and found him hanging from their bunk bed. Sometime after Jacob had changed his clothes, he picked up a terry cloth belt from a bathrobe and tied it to the bed. Officials believe he put the other end around his neck like a scarf and played a game in which he wrapped himself in the belt and then twirled. But something went horribly wrong. No one knows exactly what happened, but somehow the belt got wrapped around his neck too tight, strangling him. Paramedics tried to revive Jacob, but he was pronounced dead at the Primary Children’s Medical Center. HAWTHORNE, Calif. - What are the odds that I would have two stories today featuring dogs peering out from behind bars? Who cares. This story does not involve a pit bull raping kids in a day care, but rather a pit bull who was saved after neighbors observed its owner abusing it. Neighbors heard the yelps of pain and screaming coming from the home of 19 year old Ricardo Salvador Plascenia. When one went to investigate, they witnessed Plascenia slam a 50 pound pit bull, named Mary Jane, onto the concrete. He then punched and kicked Mary Jane before treating her like some kind of flag; hoisting her onto a pole by her choke chain. By time police got there the dog had been taken down, but luckily one of the neighbors captured the entire event on cell phone video. Plascenia was arrested Monday and booked on charges of animal cruely and cultivation of marijuana. Mary Jane was taken to the Carson animal shelter where she will eventually be put up for adoption.…

Chisago County, MN – It’s not clear when Douglas and Candice Ouellette’s marriage started to fall apart, but by June, Candice had obviously had enough, and filed for a protection order against her husband. On the application, she stated that Douglas had been suffering from depression and suicidal tendencies for quite some time. She wrote that on June 17, he held a gun to his head and told her, “I want you to see this so you remember for the rest of your life.” Candice took the gun from his hand – he whipped out a second one and held it to his head. She called 911 and Douglas was taken to a hospital. She decided to file for the restraining order when she discovered his normally empty guns were loaded – each one with five bullets. The number of bullets equaled the number of members in their little family. Candice filed for divorce on June 29 – Douglas was granted visitation with his children, and access to his shop and outbuildings on the property during the day, but was ordered not to enter the house.…

Bernville, PA – Initially thought to be a murder-suicide, Duceliz Diaz, 22, and her daughter, 5-year-old Kayla, were found hanging in the second-floor apartment where they lived in Bernville on Jan 15th. Now, a month after their bodies were discovered, investigators are now claiming this as a double homicide. Family members became worried when Diaz’s sister received an e-mail from her sister less than two hours before the bodies were found. The message said Diaz was going to do something that would forever change the family, expressed love for family members and said Diaz would be watching over them.
