Woman Says Seizures Led To Broken 10 Day Old St. Paul, MN - When Jennifer A. Pickar, 30, went to a St. Paul emergency room on the afternoon of Jan. 1 to seek treatment for tremors, a nurse attending to Pickar noticed her 10-day-old baby boy appeared to have two black eyes. After examination, the baby was reportedly taken to the intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, where an examination revealed the extent of his injuries.

It turns out that the baby – for whom treatment was not being sought by the mother – also had bruises on his left ear, fractures on the bones around his eyes, and bleeding in the front and back of his brain. The baby needed a breathing tube and a shunt was surgically inserted into his skull to reduce swelling.

According to court documents, the 10-day-old underwent surgery to repair the broken facial bones, but more will be required. The baby’s current condition is unknown. Court documents say that the child is expected to have “significant deficits” because of the injuries. Doctors reportedly said the baby would have died without medical care and that his injuries are consistent with a “significant” or “multiple” impacts to the baby’s face.…

Lubbock, TX – A 6-month-old boy was hospitalized late last month with numerous injuries in various stages of healing, including bruises on his head, torso, face, arms, legs and feet. He was found to have human bite marks and burn marks on his shoulder, stomach and groin area. Add to that various cuts and abrasions, a broken leg, healing neck fractures and internal bleeding beneath the skull. At this point, it will be a miracle if he survives. Police have arrested the person they believe is responsible for the injuries – his mother, 21-year-old Amanda Fain. When presented with photos of the child’s injuries, Fain explained each of the numerous injuries and told police she was feeling “overwhelmed” with her children and their crying and put the infant into bed “harder than usual.” She also admitted to biting the child’s toe, but says she didn’t realize how hard she clamped down. The oldest of Fain’s five children, a 4-year-old boy, told investigators the children often bit and hit each other.…

Thomas Ampe Broke The Baby In 56 Different Places

August 23, 2010 at 4:19 am by

Savage, MN – Thomas Ampe was charged with assault last week in what police are calling the most severe case of child abuse they have ever seen. Ampe is accused of brutally beating his 4-week-old daughter, breaking her in 56 different places. Police were called in to investigate the allegations of abuse on July 22, when the baby girl was seen in the hospital for a rib fracture and assorted bruises. A bone scan revealed a total of 56 fractures to her tiny body – including multiple fractures to her ribs, legs, arms and knees. An MRI revealed three areas of her brain had bleeding and bruising. The infant, who has Down syndrome, has since been released from the hospital and is no longer living in the home. During questioning, Ampe told detectives that his daughter is “typically fussy and crying from the time he gets home from work until he goes to sleep,” and admitted to being frustrated with the child on a regular basis. …

Mooresville, IN – After receiving an anonymous tip about possible child abuse/medical neglect, caseworkers from DCS made an unannounced visit to the home of 19-year-old Kaitlin Moore and her 24-year-old boyfriend, Justin Weber. There they found the couple’s 2-month-old infant suffering from severe, untreated burns. When the child was examined at the hospital, doctors also discovered a total of 8 fractures to several bones including one rib, both arms, both legs and her right ankle. According to neighbor Tami Moran, Kaitlin recently told her that the infant had been burned after rolling off her bath pad and into scalding hot bath water. She and the boyfriend decided to treat the baby’s burns at home because prior run-ins with DCS left them fearful the child would be taken away. Seems this isn’t the first time the baby girl has been injured. Shocking, I know. DCS had visited the couple’s apartment on two separate occasions in the past two months – once to investigate a black eye, and another time to investigate an injured arm. I don’t know how they explained away the black eye, but the child’s injured arm was supposedly the result of accidentally meeting a door frame while being carried by her mother.…

Gustine, CA – When Maria Galicia’s 11-month-old daughter began tugging at her ear earlier this week, Maria did what any responsible, caring parent would do, she had the child seen at the hospital for a possible ear infection. After an examination, it was discovered that the ear infection was the least of the child’s worries. She was found to be suffering from numerous injuries, including a skull fracture that runs from the top of her head to the back of her head, a broken arm, fractured leg and a burn on her arm from a hair straightener. All of the various injuries were in different stages of healing. Initially arrested on suspicion of child endangerment likely to produce great bodily harm or death, Maria posted $50,000 bail and was released shortly after her arrest on Monday. The 26-year-old was rearrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of aggravated assault and her bail was upped to $500,000. The child has been placed in protective custody and is expected to fully recover.…

Albuquerque, NM — Ashley Gibson, 19, and Jacob Nichols, 20, are charged with child abuse after beating their 3 month old daughter. The baby, now on life support, is being treated for more than 20 fractures and possible brain injuries. The couple took the baby to the hospital for a fever. Amazingly, they thought that was more urgent than the numerous injuries the infant had. Mommy admits to tossing the baby on the bed and to putting band-aids or tying ribbons over her mouth to keep her pacifier in place. Daddy admits to regularly spanking the baby. Tell me what a 3-month old does that deserves spanking? Jacob also indicated he would hit her under the chin if he had a bad day. He also enjoyed dropping the baby from heights of about 18 inches for crying or for amusement. Oh, and Mommy reveals that they’ve been under pressure from family to put their adored infant up for adoption! The nerve!! The couple and their child had been staying at a homeless shelter in Albuquerque.…

Adam Tijerina Knows How To Cure A Sick Kid

December 18, 2009 at 12:13 pm by

Austin, TX - What’s a parent to do with a sick kid? One mother apperantly thinks the thing to do is to drag her puking sick son over to her boyfriend’s apartment. The boyfriend, Adam Tijerina, made it known that he didn’t appreciate the boy repeatedly vomiting all over the place. The girlfriend says she recalls Tijerina mentioning if her son throws up in his home again, he’s going to pull the 17-month-old’s diaper off and hurt his genitals. I don’t know why this didn’t alarm her but it didn’t and she spent the night. The next morning, the mother noticed bruising on and around her son’s privates. I don’t know why this didn’t alarm her, either, but she waited 3 days before taking the little boy to a doctor. Medical personnel found injuries all over his body, including severe bruising on his genitals, three 2-month-old leg fractures, and bleeding in his left eye. Of course, when questioned by investigators, Tijerina said the boy fell down the stairs. Adam Tijerina has been charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury and is held on $30,000 bond.…

Damien Poling Needed Some Stress Relief

December 5, 2009 at 2:48 pm by

Minneapolis, MN – …so he started squeezin’ and pokin’ and breaking his adopted 1-year-old son. The child’s adoptive mother noticed the child was bruised and sought medical treatment last week, and at that time, it was determined that the child was suffering from two fractured ribs, a fractured bone in his leg that was in the process of healing, fracture lines in his wrists and in both ankles, suggesting that he had been slammed down on his feet. Poling, a 38-year-old high school teacher, blames the child’s injuries on depression, the flu, stress, and lack of bonding. He stated that he poked the child boy in the chest with two fingers and squeezed him firmly because the boy had not “bonded” with him and because he wouldn’t stop crying. Well no shit, asshole! Kids cry when ya start poking at ‘em and breaking their little bones. Poling, has been charged with two felony counts of third-degree assault. He’s already out on $40,000 bail.…

William, Tiffany, and Alyssa O’Shell

Commerce City, CO–Back in July, I posted a story in the forums about the murder-suicide of William O’Shell and his wife, Tiffany Cuin-O’Shell. William was suspected of abusing his 3-month-old daughter, Alyssa. The baby was taken from the home on June 17th after a doctor’s visit revealed serious injuries, 11 broken bones and a skull fracture. She was placed in foster care while the abuse investigation continued. Just 13 days later, William shot and killed his wife Tiffany as she slept, then put two guns in his mouth and pulled both triggers. …
