MUSKEGON, MI – Police say an 8-year-old girl is suspected in the death of a 1-year-old boy that was left unsupervised in a home day care.

When Bryanna Reasonover arrived at the Keysha Keepers home day care to pick up her four children early Friday morning, she immediately noticed something was wrong with her 1-year-old.

“I picked Korey up and I’m thinking he’s asleep and then his face tilts over,” Reasonover said. “I’m saying ‘What’s wrong with my baby’s face?’ I’m thinking he’s still asleep.”

She also noticed teeth marks and bruises on the boy’s face as he was taken to the bedroom of the home’s owner, Keysha Collins. CPR was performed as someone called 911, but Korey never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to Reasonover’s 6-year-old daughter, the children had been left unsupervised for a couple of hours and that Korey had been crying. The homeowner’s 8-year-old daughter decided to take care of the situation and put Korey in a closet and, according to Reasonover’s daughter, Korey was bleeding.…

Kimberly Marie ReidCLEREMONT, FL – The director of a Clermont day care center has been arrested after they received cellphone video of her smacking a 4-year-old with stuffed animals before picking him up and dropping him face down.

The director, 41-year-old Kimberly Reid, was arrested at the facility on Friday. According to a state child-protective investigator, the abuse occurred over a three-week period “without regard for the child’s safety or mental health.”

Reid told investigators that she knew the video looked bad, but that “it’s not what it appears to be.” She said that her hitting the boy with the stuffed animals and dropping him on his face was just her playing rough with him.

It’s obvious that whatever she was doing, a co-worker did not feel it was “rough” play and decided to get some hidden video and turn her in. Police agreed and have charged Reid with child abuse. Officials say there is no evidence that any other children at the facility were being abused.

As of today, a sign on the facility stated the day care was temporarily closed and the owner of the facility said they plan on giving up the day care’s license.…

Justin AtteburySALEM, IL – Justin Attebury will be tried as an adult after the 16-year-old admitted he sexually assaulted a 10-month-old girl with a toy car at his mother’s in-home day care.

Last week, a woman picked up her 10-month-old daughter from the day care owned and operated by Attebury’s mother. When she got home and changed her daughter’s diaper, she discovered her infant was bleeding and took her to the hospital.

Doctors would find the baby girl was suffering from four anal tears and bruising. She was treated for her injuries and sent back home with her family. Police were notified of the possible sexual assault and immediately started their investigation at the day care.

Attebury and his mother both denied knowing how the baby was injured, but Attebury would eventually confess that he was responsible for the girl’s injuries in a videotaped interview. According to Attebury, he forcefully inserted a “Matchbox” type toy car into the girl’s anus. He never gave a reason for his actions.

Justin Attebury was subsequently arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.…

Kid's CountryNORMANDY PARK, WA — Police have arrested Ian Moore after a man walking into his daughter’s daycare said he caught Moore raping his 5-year-old daughter inside on of the daycare’s classrooms.

According to the Normandy Park Police Department, the man walked into a classroom at Kid’s Country childcare on June 5 and found Moore, a 31-year-old teacher at the center, crouched behind a bookshelf with his daughter. Moore allegedly told the father he was just having a “tickle fight” with the girl.

However, once outside of the school, the girl allegedly told her father that the Moore had touched her inappropriately. The father immediately called Child Protective Services who interviewed the girl. When interviewed by investigators, she would tell them she was raped by Moore.

When police interviewed Moore, he allegedly admitted that he touched the girl beneath her underwear but that it was accidental. I’m willing to give people the benefit of the doubt in cases like this, but I it’s hard for me believe anyone would find themselves accidentally knuckle-deep inside a 5-year-old girl.…

Bailey Joe MillsSANFORD, NC — Proving that a pedophile running a home day care is probably a bad idea, four people have been arrested after a convicted sex offender’s home day care turned out to be a child porn production operation.

Back in January, 33-year-old Baily Joe Mills was arrested for raping a 13-year-old girl. Mills already had a 1997 conviction of taking indecent liberties with a child, and a 2000 conviction for indecent liberties with a child after he molested an 11-year-old girl at a flea market. He was required to register as a sex offender, but his name was expired from that registry in 2006.

After his latest arrest, police went through Mill’s computer and cell phone and discovered he’d upped his game a bit and was now pimping out children. Investigators say Mills was running a day care and mentoring program from his home to attract young girls who he would pay to have sex with men he found through different social media sites.

Authorities said this operation involved 10 male and female victims ranging from 1- to 14-years-old, and was done with the help of at least four other adults.  …

Jose Luis Pena-MaldenadoCovington, WA— We just reported on a day care being shut down after the owner hit a kid in the face with a metal chair, and now we have a day care in Washington that has been shut down after the owner was accused of molesting two girls in his care.

Jose Luis Pena-Maldenado and his wife owned and operated El Carrusel Family Childcare for over a decade until last month, when 40-year-old Pena-Maldenado admitted molesting two girls, ages 4 and 7, since January 2012.

According to court documents, one of the girls told investigators that Pena-Maldenado would touch her at nap-time and make her look at pornographic magazines. Both girls said he told them that he touched them because he loved them. Not surprisingly, he also told the girls not to tell anyone.

Senior Prosecutor Richard Anderson revealed that this isn’t the first time Pena-Maldenado has been accused of being inappropriate with children at his day care. An investigation was opened back in 2010 by state licensing authorities and the DHSH after receiving reports that he was unusually physical with the children, frequently touching their legs and rubbing their arms.…

Wahaha Child Care CenterESCONDIDO, CA – A child care center in Escondido has been shut down after the center’s owner threw a metal chair at a 6-year-old girl, hitting the child in the face.

The incident happened in August at the Wahaha Child Care Center when the center’s owner, Xiao Yan Hu, allegedly threw a metal folding chair at 6-year-old Imani. The chair struck Imani in the face, leaving her with a bruised and scarred cheek.

According to Imani, Hu tried bribing her into not telling her mother of the incident, which was also witnessed by Imani’s 10-year-old brother, by offering her a bag of lollipops. The ploy didn’t work and Imani told her mother what happened. The California Department of Social Services eventually got involved and went to the center on Sept. 12 to interview staff and children. After they were done, they ordered the center to close its doors immediately.

“The licensee threw a chair at a child in care, causing injury to the child. The Department believes that, as a consequence, the licensee, and the continued operation of this facility, pose a risk to the health and safety of day care children,” CDSS stated in their report.…

Houston TX — A judge sentenced Jessica Tata to 80 years in prison after being convicted of felony murder in the death of one of the four children killed in a fire at her home day care.

Not sure how many of you remember this case, but 24-year-old Jessica Tata was charged with murder in February 2011 after she left some toddlers by themselves in her home day care while she made a run to Target.

While out shopping, a pan of cooking oil she had left on the stove caught fire. The blaze quickly spread and soon the house was engulfed in flames. Neighbors would tell jurors that they could hear children screaming inside the home as they attempted to rescue them from the burning home.

Shomari Dickerson, 3; Elias Castillo, 16-months; Kendyll Stradford, 20-months; and 19-month-old Elizabeth Kajoh would all die in the fire. Afterwards, Tata fled to Nigeria but was later apprehended and brought back to the United States a month later.

She went on trial for the murder of Elias Castillo and last week a juror found her guilty.…

Okemah, OK — Two daycare workers in Oklahoma are facing child abuse charges after they were caught on tape feeding habanero hot sauce to a 13-month-old boy, then laughing at him as he cried in pain.

Rosie Hicks, 49, and Tracy Owens, 36, were arrested after Department of Human Services workers informed police that they had received a report of a boy being abused at the Muscogee Creek Nation Child Development Center.

Investigators were able to retrieve surveillance video from the day care that captured the two workers intentionally putting  habanero sauce into a child’s lunch and then feeding it to him as he sat in a high chair. Shortly after the boy starts eating, he begins crying from the pain while Hicks can be seen laughing.

After both women were brought in to be interviewed by police, Owens would admit that she bought the bottle of habanero hot sauce at the request of Hicks and watched as her co-worker put some of the hot sauce into the boy’s lunch before Owens put the plate in front of the boy.…

WINTHROP HARBOR, IL — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing children at his mother’s day care.

Brett Degler has been accused of sexually abusing three young girls, two 11-year-olds and a 4-year-old, since November of last year.

A two week police investigation began after the 4-year-old told her parents that it hurt to urinate and that “Brett did it.” Her parents took her to the hospital and then contacted police when it was revealed the girl had been sexually assaulted.

The girl was able to detail when and how she was abused durin an interview that lead police to a second victim. Degler admitted to assaulting a third victim during a police interview following his arrest a day later. The abuse had been ongoing for at least five months and took place when his mother was in another room of the house or at the store.

His mother, Cheryl Degler, has run a residential day-care for nearly 30 years and p0lice say she has cared for the children of children she cared for in the past.…

Waterbury, CT – Catalina Reyes, 54, was arrested after police say a baby was found hidden in a home daycare center crawlspace during an investigation of overcrowding. The D’D shocker… the baby was alive and unharmed.

According to reports, the Department of Public Health received a report that Reyes’ center was overcrowded. On March 14, an inspector was dispatched to the center to investigate. After a four-hour-long investigation, the inspector reportedly heard crying that could not be ascribed to the children identified to be in Reyes’ care.

The source of the crying?! …a 6-month-old baby who was reportedly hidden behind a locked door in a basement crawlspace so that Reyes’ center could meet ratio during the inspection. Police said the child – who was strapped in a car seat – had no supervision, food, or drink throughout the time of the inspection.

In an apparent indication of the importance of convenient childcare when compared to, say, the health and well-being of their children, some of Reyes’ clientele have come out in support of her efforts.…

Meth Lab Found In North Carolina Day Care

March 3, 2011 at 10:16 am by

MORGANTON, N.C. — Police arrested two people after a meth lab was discovered in the basement of a North Carolina day care.

After checking the log books people must sign to purchase products like Sudafed, police went to the home of Katrina Epperson for suspicion of buying ingredients to make meth. This home was also the location of a newly licensed day care called Kit Kat’s Place Family Child Care.

When police arrived at the home day care at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, they banged on the door (knock a little louder baby!) until Epperson and Chris Webb finally opening the door at around 3:30 p.m., claiming they’d been sleeping.

Investigators would find a working meth lab in the basement of the home and while they’re not sure how long the lab had been operating, they say that several batches appeared to had been cooked recently.

As the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations laboratory team dismantled the methamphetamine operation, neighbors expressed shock.

“It’s hard to look at people and think they’d do this type of thing to their own children or someone else’s children,” one said.…

Milwaukee, WI — A day care worker may be facing criminal charges after a 3-year-old boy beat the snot out of a toddler crawling on the floor. Rosetta Strong. the owner of Kidology Day Care in Milwaukee, had installed surveillance cameras after a recent break-in but what they ended up capturing was a 3-year-old boy attacking an 11-month-old girl. The video reportedly show the boy attacking the girl as she crawled on the floor. He beats her, punches her in the back and bites her hard enough to draw blood. But the one thing the video does not show is the day care worker in charge of the more than a half dozen children in the home at the time of the attack. Now this worker may be facing a neglect charge for each of them. The worker failed to show up at the district attorney’s office and Strong has voluntarily closed the day care. The mother of the baby girl told reporters she is not ready to talk at the moment, but that the baby is recovering after having been released from the emergency room.…

Denver, Colorado – More details coming out in regards to the day care that was closed down earlier this month after a child reported one of the workers had touched them inappropriately. Court documents reveal that 19-year-old Benjamin Janicki has admitted to sexually assaulting at least 13 of the children at the Park Hill United Methodist Children’s Center where he worked for a couple of months. Most of the abuse occurred while the preshoolers were lying on mats. It is then that Janicki would “tickle” parts of the children’s bodies. One of the children told their parents about the abuse and they in turn notified police. Their investigation has led to the identification of three possible victims but they feel there are more and plan on interviewing at least 50 children. The Colorado Department of Human Services sent out licensed workers after the allegations were made and observed “significant supervision” issues. Significant enough to suspend the center’s operating license.

Some parents with children in the day care do not fault the owners as they scramble to find someone to watch their kids.…

ORLANDO, Fla. – After the director of All Star’s Child Care, Ednita Williams, got into an argument with one of her employees about the firing of another employee, she left to run some errands. When she returned 30 minutes later that Friday, she found that her three employees had left the facility leaving 13 children, ages 9 and under, unattended. Williams called police to report the incident and eventually, Michelle Lavett Bell, 42, Laquanda Tamel King, 33, and Laqunda M. Hill, 40, were arrested and charged with 13 counts of child neglect. They say the children were only left there for five minutes after leaving the day care over a money dispute with Williams. But the boy who took charge told a different story. The 9-year-old told deputies that the trio walked out and shouted back at him to lock the door. The boy said the children watched a “Dora the Explorer” video before some of the younger ones started to cry. He said he comforted them by patting their backs.…

Macon, GA – A motorist was driving down Highway 49 in Jones County Monday morning when she spotted four juveniles walking near the railroad tracks. The woman thought the children looked a bit young to be out by themselves, so she pulled over, picked ’em up, and continued on to a convenience store where she called police. When a deputy arrived and started asking questions, the siblings, ages 11, 9, 8 and 6, said they had been at their daycare center, Kids University, when the owner of the facility, Lavern Stubbs, ordered them to walk home. According to the incident report, the officer then took the children to the daycare center and made contact with Stubbs. She initially told the officer that the children weren’t enrolled in her facility, they were being cared for by a woman named Mrs. Hunt. A phone call was made and Mrs. Hunt arrived on scene. She told the officer that she had been caring for the children and they just wandered off. When the officer asked Mrs.…

PLYMOUTH, Minn. – This post is gonna make some of you a bit nauseous. During a 2009 child porn investigation, police stumbled upon 26-year-old Shawn Godfrey who was sharing child porn over the internet. After acquiring a search warrant, police entered the home of Godfrey’s parents where he lived and confiscated a computer in the basement, a computer Godfrey admitted was loaded with child porn. But that’s not all. In Godfrey’s bedroom they found more videos and images of child porn in the closet as well as numerous job applications for daycares and nanny positions and a troop leader tag with a picture of a boy scout troop. Police also retrieved a folder labelled “HTC kids” that continued cell phone images of children using the bathroom at the Hennepin Technical College – where he once volunteered at the daycare. On Tuesday he was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography but there is also an ongoing sexual abuse investigation that may lead to even more charges. There’s a video after the jump and a link to the very graphic criminal complaint.…

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. – Police were called to the Tender Teddies daycare to help with a 10-year-old boy who had become uncontrollable, was being combative and trying to harm other children and caretakers. This was not the first time that police have been called to the location about this same kid but this particular encounter ended with outraged people, two suspended cops and a Tased kid. When the boy would not stop screaming, punching and kicking, one officers allegedly Tased his ass and another allegedly slapped him. The two officers are now on leave with pay pending the results of the investigation that usually happens after a cop uses a Taser on a kid. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement: “While the department will not condone the unnecessary treatment of any subject, regardless of age, in any apprehension situation, additional comments will not be made pending results of the final investigation.” …
