Freedom, PA – Last month we reported on Thomas Grant, the man who shot an 9-year-old relative at a Halloween party because he thought the costumed girl was a skunk. Today it is being reported that Grant will be headed to trial after he waived his preliminary hearing.
New Sewickley Police Chief Ronald Leindecker said the girl was at a Halloween party wearing a black costume and a black hat equipped with white tassel or feather. At around 8:30 that evening, the girl strayed away from the two to three dozen guests at the home and hid on the edge of a hill near the home.
Around that same time, 24-year-old Thomas Grant says his mother told him she heard there was a skunk in the yard. So Grant picked up a shotgun and fired at what he thought was a rather large skunk, striking his 9-year-old cousin in the shoulder, arm, back and neck.
She was flown to a children’s hospital in critical condition, but is now recovering and reportedly doing well.…

ATHENS, GA - A 21-year-old woman in Georgia has been arrested and charged with murder after stabbing her newborn to death hours after giving birth.
Police say that on Thursday, Cassandra Elyse Norwood gave birth inside a home she shared with her parents and other family members. No one in the home was even aware Norwood had the baby until a family member discovered the newborn’s corpse.
Police were called and the resulting investigation would reveal that hours after giving birth to the boy, Norwood stabbed her baby to death. No word on why she chose this particular route instead of the handful of others that did not involve stabbing a baby to death, or if she suffers from any type of mental illness.
Norwood is currently under guard in the hospital where she’s being treated for blood loss from giving birth. Once she’s given a clean bill of health, she is expected to be transported to jail.
If I had any emotions at all, I could probably get a bit depressed dwelling on stories like this. To think that out of all the things he could have experienced after the trauma of being pushed out of his mother’s cooch, he gets to experience being stabbed to death.…

Salinas, CA – Police have charged a 12-year-old boy with cruelty to animals after he hanged a dog by its collar because he wanted to see the dog die.
Last Friday, police revived a 911 call from someone who hung up before explaining why they were calling. All they could make out was a female saying “he’s hurting the dog” before hanging up.
When police arrived at the apartment, they learned that the caller was a 19-year-old girl whose little brother had been trying to hurt one of their dogs. he began beating her while she was on the phone with 911, so she hung up and left the apartment with one of their other dogs.
The apartment was locked and the boy was not answering he door, so police used a pass key to gain entry. Once inside, police found a dead 12-pound terrier-mix hanging from its collar on the boy’s bedroom doorknob. The 12-year-old eventually emerged from his room and immediately admitted to police that he was the one responsible, telling them,“I was mad at the dog so I killed it.”
Police say he showed no remorse for killing the dog, adding that there didn’t seem to be any motive aside from the boy being angry at the dog and wanting to see the dog die.…

FOREST HILL, TX – The pastor for Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church was beaten to death with an electric guitar by a man who drove his car into the church and was later found dead in the back of a police car.
At about 11:15 a.m. Monday, 33-year-old Derrick Birdow drove a car into the side of the church before getting out and assaulting Pastor Danny Kirk. According to a secretary who had locked herself inside an office, Kirk and a church custodian had been scuffling with Birdow inside and outside of the church moments before Birdow beat the pastor to death with a guitar.
Police arrived on the scene and had to use a Taser to subdue Birdow. He was found unresponsive in the back of a patrol car and then later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Birdow’s children may have attended the church, according to his cousin, but there was no known conflict between Birdow and Kirk. Birdow’s brother said that his sibling didn’t know the pastor at all and had become increasingly paranoid in the last week, claiming people were trying to kill him and that someone had stuck a needle in his arm.…

WALKER, LA – A man in Louisiana has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife in the abdomen and then cut out their unborn child.
On Tuesday, police responded to an emergency call at the home of 31-year-old Jeffrey Reynolds and his pregnant wife. Once there, they would find that Reynolds had done the unthinkable to his pregnant wife.
“His wife was on the floor he took a sharp instrument and actually had cut her open – her stomach area and pulled the baby out.” said Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.
The 28-year-old woman, who was 7 1/2 months pregnant, was rushed to the hospital where she is currently in stable condition. Sadly, the baby died despite attempts to save it.
“I’ve seen crime scenes before but this one was very challenging, I mean they all are, but this one was one that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this,” said Ard.

Clayton, NJ – At the time I typed this, officials have not officially identified the body that was found in a recycling container, but they preliminarily identified the body as that of Autumn Pasquale, the 12-year-old who was reported missing on Saturday.
Authorities said Pasquale was last seen around 12:30 p.m. Saturday riding her bike. A friend of her said that she exchanged text messages with her that day, the last one received at 1:22 p.m. that she did not believe was intended for her. She said the message read, “don’t be like that.”
Police say the last text she sent was at around 2.30 p.m. and that there was nothing alarming or unusual about it. She was reported missing at 9:30 p.m. after not arriving home by her 8 p.m. curfew. By Monday, about 200 law enforcement officials and hundreds of volunteers were out looking for her. By 10 p.m., she was found.
Investigators have not said exactly where in Clayton her body was located, other than saying that it was a few blocks from her home inside a recycling bin. An autopsy is to be conducted today to positively identify the body is Pasquale’s. Investigators say they have talked to at least 75 people, but that they do not have any suspects or know she left on her own or was the victim of foul play.…

Benton, IL – Police have arrested the drummer for The Core of Your Nightmares, a death metal band you’ve probably never heard of until now, accusing him of producing child pornography to share on the Internet.
Martin Evanick aka Vlad Evanick (Facebook), was arrested on Oct 19 and charged with the production of child pornography after prosecutors say the 31-year-old took photographs of himself engaged in sexual acts with a minor, including close-up pictures of the minor’s genitalia.
These photos were taken between April 1, 2012 and April 21, 2012, but the federal indictment states Evanick has been creating child porn for more than two years.
Evanick is being held without bond pending trial as investigators feel he is a flight risk and a danger to the community. They also fear he might threaten, injure or intimidate a victim.
If convicted, Evanick faces between 15 and 30 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and term of supervised release between five years and life. Someone from the band commented on their Facebook page that they had absolutely no idea and are just as appalled as the rest of us.…

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – A mother in New Jersey has been accused of boarding her 9-year-old daughter’s school bus and slapping her daughter’s 4th-grade bully.
According to reports, 28-year-old Rebecca Sardoni boarded a school bus Friday morning with her 51-year-old mother, Stephanie Sardoni. The pair were on the bus looking for one of the kids they say have been bullying Rebecca’s daughter as she rode the bus to and from East Dover Elementary School.
“Who is Vinny?” she asked according to other students and the bus driver. When Vinny raised his hand, the mother-daughter pair walked to the back of the bus where he was sitting and had a talk with him about his alleged bullying.
By “talk with him” I mean that they screamed and cursed at them while Rebecca allegedly slapped Vinny in the face. Not quite satisfied, Rebecca then slapped the face of the boy who was sitting next to Vinny. She also told them that she was taking them to court.
Both Vinny and the other boy were treated by Toms River school nurses for cuts to their mouths.…

FREEDOM, PA – A 9-year-old girl attending a Halloween party was shot by a relative who mistakenly thought the girl was a skunk.

She was reportedly conscious and talking as she was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where she currently remains in the intensive car unit. Leindecker says the relative hadn’t been drinking at the time of the shooting, and he doesn’t know if any charges will be filed against him.
I’m not sure how big skunks get in Pennsylvania, but where I live they never get much bigger than an average cat.…

Buffalo, NY - A man has been found guilty of beating his 10-year-old stepson to death with a rolling pin after arguing with the boy about homework.
Prosecutors say that on April 17, 10-year-old Abdifatah Mohamud climbed out a window of his home and ran down the street. A neighbor driving by saw the boy running with his stepfather, 41-year-old Mohamed Mohamud, chasing after him. She pulled over and gave Mohamud a ride so he could catch up to his stepson.
After catching up to the boy, Abdi told the woman he did not want to go back home with his stepfather, but Mohamud pulled Abdi into the vehicle and the neighbor took them back home. The neighbor said she stood at the entrance and asked Abdi if he wanted to come study at her house, but Mohamud told her he wasn’t going to do anything to the boy and she could leave.
According to Mohamud, Abdi would not stop trying to flee the house after the neighbor left, so he used electrical cord to tie him to a chair in the basement.…

DALLAS , TX — – According to police, a woman opened fire on a pair of burglars who had broken into her home and only one of the burglars lived to talk about it.
According to the Dallas Police Department, 47-year-old Eric Ford and 19-year-old Isaiah Phillip Williams kicked in the front door of a home owned by Charles Brown. As they charged their way upstairs, they met Brown’s 21-year-old daughter who had been sleeping in an upstairs bedroom.
Before I go on, here’s a little background. This house has been the target of burglars several times in the past. In Jan 2008, a car was stolen from the driveway, In Dec of that year, someone broke into the house and stole a CD player, diamond rings, necklaces and a digital camera.

LAS VEGAS, NV – A man has been charged with attempted murder after he set fire to a man who was harassing him at a Las Vegas gas station.
According to police, Theodore Bejarano was inside Cricle K store drinking on Oct 10. The clerk told him he was not allowed to loiter inside the store and asked him to leave. At around the same time, 61-year-old Patrick Newell had arrived at the store to get gas. After paying, he left the store only to encounter a drunken Bejarano leaning against his truck. Bejarano asked for a ride, but Newell refused, telling him he was driving a business vehicle.
Bejarano allegedly didn’t like that answer and kept bugging Newell to the point that Newell threatened to cut Bejarano with a pocketknife if he didn’t leave him alone. But instead of cutting the man, Newell went back inside the store and told the clerk that he was being harassed at the pumps and to call police. New Orleans, LA – This happened last week, but it has been siting in draft for days and I am tired of looking at it. A 19-year-old LSU student has been charged with attempted murder after police say she tried to kill her mother for inheritance money.
Last week, 52-year-old Sherri Boover received a knock on her door at 4.30am. When she looked through the peephole, she was greeted by her smiling daughter, Nicole Boover. But when she opened the door, Nicole pulled out a handgun and aimed it at her. The quick thinking mother immediately slammed the door shut before Nicole fired several rounds into the door and ran off.
Uninjured, Sherri called police and informed them they could probably find Nicole at the LSU dorms where she was currently staying. Outside of the dorm, police would find Nicole’s car with 18-year-old Nathan Yuhas, a friend and classmate of Nicole’s, sitting inside it. They would find Nicole in her dorm room.

Mesquite, TX – A woman in Texas is facing felony charges after she allegedly identified an undercover narcotics officer by posting his picture and his job on Facebook.
Earlier this month, someone notified police of a post Melissa Walthall, 30, had made on Facebook. It was a photograph of a man labeled “Undercover Mesquite Narcotics” with the caption “Anyone know this bitch.” According to the arrest affidavit, a warrant was issued for Walthall’s arrest after her post was deemed a “viable threat to that officer’s safety.”
When questioned, Walthall told police she had seen the photograph on a flyer her friend had made, and had posted it online because the officer had testified against her friend two months earlier in a drug case. She would not tell police who the friend was, but a computer search led police to 34-year-old George Pickens and his brother, 26-year-old Bobby Stedham.
Pickens told investigators he and his brother found the undercover officer’s Facebook page after doing some sleuthing online, then used the man’s photo to make flyers to display “like garage sale signs,” according to the affidavit.…

Salt Lake City, UT – More details have been released in the case of a mentally ill man who stabbed his 84-year-old grandmother to death earlier this month.
On Oct 3, police were called to the home of Joyce “Honey” Dexter where they found her grandson, 21-year-old Zachary Weston, covered in blood and standing over her dead body while holding a bloody knife. Weston later told investigators that he “stabbed his grandma” and that he “slit her belly, her jugular and her heart.” As overkill as that all sounds, it’s still an understatement.
A medical examiner later determined that Dexter had been stabbed 111 times, nine of those to her heart, and that several of Dexter’s internal organs had been removed. Because of the heinous nature of the crime, Weston was charged with aggravated murder. Since this happened in Utah, that means Weston is looking at a possible death sentence.
Weston’s family says that he’s had long-standing mental issues that have gotten progressively worse, calling his life a “tragedy in slow motion.” Weston was diagnosed with schizophrenia and has told others he was hearing voices. He was staying with his grandmother because she was the only one willing to give him a place to stay.…

HUNTSVILLE, TX – Police in Texas say a 10-year-old boy was at home when he shot his sister and then fatally shot himself.
Sheriff’s deputies said that sometime late Thursday, Coby Tucker walked into his 15-year-old sister’s bedroom and shot her multiple times with a small caliber handgun before turning the gun on himself. The siblings’ father was at work at the time, but their mother was downstairs and called 911 after hearing the first shots.
Coby and his sister, Ashley, were flown to the hospital were Coby was pronounced dead. Ashley underwent surgery and is currently listed in good condition. At this time, police do not have a motive. “We have not been able to talk to the girl because she was in surgery this morning,” Detective Greg Williams said. “It is still early in the investigation, and we are not sure why this happened.”
Police did say they think that Cody got the handgun from a locked gun safe in the home and that, at this time, no charges will be filed against the parents. “There is no reason for us to believe that this was a case of negligence by the parents,” Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae said.…

Santa Fe Springs, CA — According to the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, a 62-year-old man working at a Bumble Bee tuna plant died after he was cooked inside an oven.
Sometime around 7 a.m. Thursday, Jose Malena was found inside a cooking device they are calling a “steamer machine.” Paramedics were called but they pronounced Malena dead as soon as they arrived.
Although they know who the man is, the coroner’s office is having some issues positively identifying Malena because of how badly his body was damaged in the machine. He died as a result of being “trapped in a pressure cooker,” Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said, bringing up images that do not play well with the breakfast burritos I ate earlier.
An investigation is currently underway in hopes of finding out how Malena, who had worked at the factory for six years, ended up inside the machine. I did a little Googling to find out exactly what this steamer machine looks like, and found some images of an industrial tuna steamer sold by JBT.…

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Last year we reported on 41-year-old Jose Guadalupe Jimenez, the man who abducted and raped a 12-year-old girl while dressed as a clown. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one felony count of a lewd act upon a child under 14 and one felony count of a forcible lewd act on a child under 14.
For those of you who missed this story, the 12-year-old victim was abducted from a fast food stand in 2002 by a man dressed as a clown. The clown took her to a nearby school parking lot and raped her in his van before taking her to a motel where he sexually assaulted her again. When the clown left the girl alone to talk to a motel clerk, the girl escaped and contacted police.
The case would remain open for nine years because the girl could only describe her attacker as a man dressed as a clown. With no other leads, all investigators could do was collect DNA and store it in their database.…

PALM DESERT, CA — A woman in California is claiming it is unfair that she was turned down for a job at a Tilted Kilt restaurant because she could not fit into their uniform.
I don’t know if any of you are aware of this chain of restaurants, but Tilted Kilt is like Hooters, but it’s Celtic-themed and the girls wear short kilts. The food is also better than Hooters, but that’s not saying much as any public school cafeteria has better food than Hooters.
