Teen Sentenced To One Year In Jail After Causing Fatal Car Crash While TextingHAVERHILL, Mass. - In a landmark case out of Massachusetts, 18-year-old Aaron Deveau was convicted of causing a fatal accident while texting.

He was sentenced to one year in jail and becoming the first person in that state to be convicted of a new criminal charge, texting while driving negligently and causing injury, that just took effect in September 2010.

Last February, a then 17-year-old Deveau was driving a car that crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Donald Bowley, who would die from his injuries a few weeks later.

During his trial it was revealed that Deveau had sent 193 texts from his mobile phone on the day of the accident. Deveau testified that he never sent any of the texts while driving, that he drifted into the wrong lane while thinking about homework. Police say this is not true, and they had phone records showing some of the texts sent from Deveau’s phone were done so moments before the fatal collision.

On Wednesday, the jury sided with prosecutors and found Deveau guilty of motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation while texting.…

Trooper Terminated For Ignoring Chase Suspect In Burning WreckageNorth Knox County, TN - Trooper Charles Van Morgan has been terminated, after an incident in which, according to his his supervisor, Van Morgan knowingly passed the scene of a crash of a vehicle he had been pursuing that resulted in the driver’s death. Dashcam video and Van Morgan’s statements and actions after the crash contributed to the case against him.

In November 2011, Van Morgan was in pursuit of Kyle Anito, 20, for speeding. The dashcam video shows the high speed chase in which Anito progressively gains distance on Trooper Van Morgan. About one minute and 20 seconds into the released dashcam video, Van Morgan is seen rounding a corner and passing by a plume of smoke from the burning wreckage of a car that had crashed into a tree. At this instant, Van Morgan slows his car from 51mph to 21ph. He then re-accelerates, radios that he is terminating the pursuit, and pulls off on the side of the road about 1/2 mile up.

Procedure dictates that a trooper remain on the side of the road for at least one minute before shutting off a dashcam.…

Teen Girl Dies Trying To Save Her Cancer Stricken DogGurnee, Ill – Sometimes there are just so many depressing things in a news article that it almost seems like it’s all made up. This is one of those articles.

In an attempt to save her cancer-stricken Doberman, Romulus, from being put down, 15-year-old Taylor Mae Stinchcomb stole her family’s mini van Tuesday night with the dog and a 15-year-old friend.

There is no word on where they were headed or if they had formulated some kind of plan after stealing the van, but at some point Stinchcomb became too distraught to drive and traded places with her friend. The friend ended up flipping the vehicle and crashing into some trees and a utility pole.

Witnesses say Stinchcomb was alive and talking after the crash, but pinned inside the van. Sadly, she would die at the hospital from multiple internal injuries. Romulus was also killed when he was thrown from the vehicle. The friend, reportedly the only one wearing a seatbelt, survived with minor injuries.

Stinchcomb got Romulus two years ago from the shelter for her 13th birthday and was having a tough time dealing with his recent cancer diagnosis.…

Drugged Up Mom Arrested For Crash That Killed SonEspanola, NM – A woman is facing charges after she tested positive for cocaine and methadone immediately following a crash that killed her 3 year-old son.

Devon Martinez, 28, was traveling with her two small children in an SUV Thursday when it plowed into the back of a tractor trailer that was stopped to make a turn. Espanola Police Chief Leo Montoya stated, “When I went to the scene there was no evidence she had the opportunity to brake or tried to brake.”

When mommy hit the truck, junior hit the windshield and died. The other child in the vehicle, a 19 month-old girl, was in a car seat, but it was unsecured, rendering it about as useful as a hamburger eaten rectally. She was airlifted to the hospital and is in serious condition.

Mom seemed a bit impaired and the police did not detect alcohol, so they checked her blood and found the aforementioned drugs. She faces vehicular homicide, child abuse and other charges.

Woman Arrested After Crashing Her Car While Injecting MethCROMWELL, Okla. – Police in Oklahoma have arrested a woman after she lost control of her car while injecting meth and rolled it a few times along I-40 on Sunday.

Ella Hyslop, 51, was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she was treated and released. Her passenger, 29-year-old Ladawna Hyslop, didn’t get so lucky. She was taken to the hospital by helicopter in serious condition.

Reports are that it took firefighters 20 minutes to get the women out of the car.

Neither of the two news articles mention the exact relation between the two women, but the age difference and same last names have some speculating they are mother and daughter.

I know it’s callous of me to think this, but I wonder if the world would have been a better place if in the 20 minutes the women were trapped, the car had been engulfed in flames?…

Teens Texted They Were Ready To Get Some Air Before Dying In CrashMANHEIM, Pa. – We may have posted about the four teens who died in a car crash in January, but I’m too lazy to go check. At the time the crash was being reported, the four Manheim Central High School Students were reportedly videotaping themselves as they sped towards a small ridge in the road which is a popular spot for teens to jump.

Police confiscated all of the dead teen’s cell phones and are now stating that there is no video to speak of, but that the teens were texting right up until the accident that claimed their lives, texting friends that they were ready to get some air.

No one is sure exactly what caused the teens to crash, but police say the car was traveling about 80 to 90 mph when it went out of control and broadsided by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. They blame a combination of speed, the weight of the vehicle and the fact that one of the wheels fell off.

Killed were Cody Hollinger, a 10th grade; DeVaugh Lee, 9th grade; Nicolas Bryson, 10th grade; and John Griffith, 11th grade.…

Teen Charged With Raping Classmate Hours Before Surviving Fatal CrashRolling Meadows, Illinois — Almost a year after a crash that claimed the life of a Glenbard West High School football player and severely injured another, authorities have accused them both of raping a 15-year-old girl in a church parking lot hours before the accident.

Police say that before Pierre Washington-Steele, 17, drove his car into a utility pole, he and his passenger, Demarco Whitley Jr., now 18, raped a girl in the vehicle while parked behind a church parking lot. Once they were finished having their way with her, they left a condom and her belongings in the lot and dropped her off at a friend’s house.

She reported the incident the next day, identifying both Washington Steel and Whitley as her attackers. While police where investigating they learned the two accused had been involved in a car accident sometime after dropping the girl off.

Washington-Steel and Whitley were traveling at high speed when they went to pass another car in a no-passing zone. When Washington-Steel swerved to avoid striking another vehicle head-on, he lost control and crashed, police said.…

OHIO — Sometimes I just cannot fathom how some people handle the heaps of shit dumped on them by Life and when I read stories about people like Kacey Stacey, it makes me feel like an ungrateful dolt for bitching about there being no creamer at work this morning. Stacey lost her three young children in a mobile home fire over the weekend and after a crash on a snowy road on Tuesday, she just lost her parents. Her father, Marc Royce, and his wife Misty, were on their way to help Stacey make funeral arrangements for Dwayne Charles Stacey, 3; Emily Rose Stacey, 2; and Alexis Stacey, 11 months, who died on Saturday in an accidental mobile home fire. While driving along U.S. Route 23 with Misty Royce’s two children from a previous marriage, ages 10 and 9, and their 6-month-old baby, they were struck by Nisa N. Kolovich who had crossed the center median. Kolovich had lost control of her SUV while trying to miss debris in the roadway.…

OTTAWA, Ill. — A mysterious case out of Illinois where a woman has gone missing after a crash in southwest Brookfield Township that killed her husband. Dale and Tanya Shannon had just left a Christmas party sometime after midnight Sunday when the car Dale was driving spun around and struck a pole. Dale was killed in the collision, but Tanya is missing. Investigators followed footsteps from the wreckage up to the road, leading police to believe she survived the crash, but that’s where her trail ends. She was not found at any of the local hospitals and fifty volunteers turned up nothing during their search. The hope is that someone picked her up as Tanya is still wearing the red dress she had on at the party and would not be able to survive for long in the cold temperatures. But if someone did pick her up, why haven’t they contacted anyone? “We checked the area hospitals and nothing, so we don’t know if someone picked her up and took her somewhere.…

Houston, TX – Two teens have been charged with illegal racing in a crash that claimed the life of a mother and her two children last September. Police say Christopher Yovino, 17, was racing his best friend, Brett Taylor, 18, when Yovino slammed into a minivan at 80 mph. The minivan was occupied by 37-year-old Mayra Torres and her two children. Torres and her son, 14-year-old Christopher Nuno, would die on impact. Torres’ daughter, 6-year-old Katia Nuno, would die at the hospital two days later. Both boys were charged with racing causing death, a second-degree felony, although they claim they weren’t racing at all. But data retrieved from the Tahoe Yovino was driving and witness accounts say otherwise. The crash data shows Yovino was going 93 mph one second before the accident and 81 mph just before impact. The data also showed Yovino’s accelerator was pushed down to the floor immediately before braking. Also, according to a criminal complaint, a witness at the scene says Taylor told them he and Yovino were racing.…

GRIFFIN, Ga. – Bad enough to lose a child in a horrific car crash, but for the parents of Dayna Kempson-Schacht, this has been compounded by the fact that a video of her dead body has been making the rounds through town. Back in July, the 23-year-old mother of two was travelling on Highway 19-41 when she lost control of her car and collided into some trees, dying instantly. An unknown firefighter from the Spalding County Fire Department who responded to the scene used his cell phone to record video of the wreckage, including Kempson-Schacht’s dead body and severe head trauma. He would share this video with fellow firefighters, who would then share the video with their friends and two-and-a-half months after losing their daughter, the video makes its way to Kempson-Schacht’s parents. “How could someone, first of all, take the video. And second of all, how could they show it and discuss it,” said her father, Jeff Kempson.  ”When I close my eyes, it’s not fair that that video is what I see of my daughter,” said mother Lucreta Kempson.…

VINELAND, NJ - While being treated at a hospital for a broken arm, 23-year-old Sara Blasse told workers she had received the injury after stopping to ask a man for directions. She claimed the man pulled out a gun, dragged her out of her car and sped off. While taking her armed carjacking report at the hospital, police learn her father’s 2003 Kia Sorento had been located abandoned and smoldering after being intentionally set on fire. It wasn’t until police began to question some of the inconsistencies in Blasse’s story and asked her to stop by the police station that Blasse admitted she been involved in an entirely different type of car jacking. Turns out Blasse had picked up a man, switched to the passenger seat and was in the process of giving him a blowjob when the vehicle crashed. She then intentionally set the car on fire in an attempt to cover up the accident. Blasse was charged with filing false reports and may face additional charges. The Vineland police believe Blasse also might have been involved with the theft of a vehicle that was stolen Saturday in the area where Blasse’s SUV crashed.…
