Silent Crime?

While the news has been populated by what Britney Spears is doing with her hair, or whether Paris Hilton will see jail time for driving without a license…all newsworthy items, for sure…have you read about the case that is about to go to trial regarding a couple by the name of Channon Christian, a 21-year-old University of Tennessee student, and her 23-year-old boyfriend Christopher Newsom?

It’s amazing if you have not as it involves two young people being abducted, raped, tortured and murdered by another group of people in house in a Tennessee neighborhood.

The investigation into their deaths led to the arrest of Lemaricus Davidson, 25; his brother, Letalvis Cobbins, 24; George Thomas, 24; and Cobbins’ former girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman, 18, and Eric Boyd, 34. Even more details have been trickling out in the manner of Channon and Christopher’s death. Christopher was gang-raped, possibly had his genitals cut off, shot and burned. This was all done in front of Channon. Channon was also was gang raped over several days, urinated on, made to drink household cleaner, had a breast removed, possibly while still alive, strangled and then cut into multiple peices.

Sounds like a story the news outlets would have splashed all over the web, but surprisingly, not many people have heard of this case, and now it is starting to garner some questions from people on exactly why that is? Is it because the two dead were white and the accused killers are black? That seems to be the general consensus.

Why does the Duke Lacrosse Rape case get so much attention, yet this does not? Would this story have gotten more national coverage had the races been reversed?
