Chicago Police Officer Shoots And Kills Pit Bull As It Attacks Teen
May 16, 2013 at 2:43 pm by Morbid
Chicago, IL – A pit bull was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer while the dog was in the middle of eating a teenager.
The teen wasn’t the demon’s first victim, either. The first was 63-year-old Gerald Myers earlier in the day. The 90-lb Hell-Hound attacked the man, pulled him to the ground and dragged him down the street. Myers ended up with 11 stitches, but only because the guy knew a demon’s weak spot – the window to the soul.
“He switched legs and got on my right leg. And that’s when I stuck my fingers in his eyes and he let me go,” Myers said.
A police sergeant got the call regarding the attack on Myers and went in search for the beast. When he found the dog, it was already making a second attempt at a sacrifice for Satan. Tyrell Henry had been walking to school when the skies grew dark and the air dropped by 15 degrees. That’s when the monster attacked, seemingly coming from nowhere.…

May 15, 2013 at 3:18 pm by Morbid
Harleyville, SC – Police say 80-year-old Carlton Freeman has died after the double-amputee was dragged from his motorized wheelchair and mauled by four pit bulls.
The attack happened on May 8 as Freeman was driving his motorized wheelchair. The dogs pulled him off his wheelchair and tried to drag him into some nearby woods. The man lost both legs to diabetes, so the only thing he could do was use his hands to protect his throat.
When found, he was suffering from bites from his legs to the top of his head. He was rushed to the hospital where he remained until his death on Sunday. “Upon my examination of Mr. Freeman, it is a wonder that this gentleman was able to hang on as long as he did,’ Coroner Chris Nisbet said in a statement.
Three of the four dogs, a female and her two puppies, belong to a relative of Freeman’s, 61-year-old Barbara Goodwin. Those dogs were found at her home with blood streaks in their fur and have been placed in an animal shelter.…

May 13, 2013 at 8:14 am by Morbid
Los Angeles, CA – Last Thursday morning, 63-year-old Pamela Devitt was brutally mauled to death by several pit bulls while out jogging. Now police are investigating Devitt’s death as a possible homicide.
A passing motorist saw Devitt laying face down on the ground while several of the dogs were attacking her. She tried honking her horn to scare the dogs away, but they attacked her car, biting its tires. The driver called 911 and the responding officer tried to chase the dogs away, but was also attacked. The deputy fired a round at the dog which ran off into the desert.
But it was too late for Devitt. The poor woman had been dragged 50 yards, scalped, and had one of her arms ripped off. She would die in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Devitt, a married mother of two, often went jogging in the morning.
Police would seize six pit bulls and two mixed-breed dogs at the home of 29-year-old Alex Jackson after receiving information from Animal Control that he owned pit bulls that have been aggressive in the past.…

MOUNT HOPKINS, AZ – Lord knows I have reported on just about every horrifying death imaginable, but every now and then one comes around that has me thinking about the victim and muttering, “You poor, poor son of a bitch.”
On Monday, 55-year-old Steven Johnson was found dead in the Santa Rita Mountains hanging from his rappelling gear and covered in bee stings. The dog Johnson often took with him was also found dead and covered in bee stings on the cliff Johnson had rappelled from.
Johnson, an experienced hiker and mountain climber, was reportedly working an area of Mount Hopkins on Friday to prepare it for future climbers. Sheriff’s deputies went to search the site after he failed to show up for work on Monday.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine actual cause of death, but Santa Cruz County’s Lt. Raoul Rodriguez believes that Johnson may have disturbed a bees’ nest while hammering his ropes into the cliff. Some comments state that this is a terrible time of year in regards to bees, and some mentioned that the bees that attacked Johnson and his dog were probably the dreaded Africanized Honey Bee, aka the true Killer Bee.…

Fulton County, GA – I had hoped there wouldn’t be any pit bull stories circulating this week, as I am tired of talking about them on our podcast, but a 2-year-old in Georgia was mauled to death by his family’s pit bull.
The attack happened shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday inside the boy’s home, when his mother went inside the bathroom. That’s when the family’s pit bull, owned by the mother for about eight years, decided to kill the toddler for reasons unknown.
“She advised it happened fast,” Parker said. “It was an obvious death once the mother came out of the restroom.”
A neighbor reported he heard the child’s mother after she ran outside of the home and rolled around on the ground screaming, “‘The dog killed the baby! The dog killed the baby!”
The dog remained inside the home for a couple of hours after the attack, possibly inside a bathroom. Animal control employees eventually removed the dog from the home and transported it to a shelter where it will be observed for several days.…

April 16, 2013 at 8:10 am by PaganOne
Carlsbad, NM - Courtney Hutchins, 22, was arrested for child endangerment after climbing over a barricade with her 3 year old son, Ethan, to get a closer look at a bobcat. Apparently she got a little too close as the bobcat was able to scratch the boy’s head badly enough to require 8 skull staples.
Hutchins, her brother LeeVon, and her son were at Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park when they decided to climb over a 40-inch high railing. Once over the outer barrier, they coaxed the cats to the inner fence and pet them. A bobcat reached through the chainlink, grabbed the boy’s head and pulled him towards it, inflicting serious head wounds on the 3 year old.
Hutchins told police she did not see any of the many signs warning against being dangerously stupid. She also said she did not know the word “barrier” before she heard police use it.
Feelings of anger and/or homicidal ideations are a natural first reaction to learning how careless and unconcerned for her own child’s welfare this woman could be. A little snooping on her Facebook, however, reveals a lot.…

April 8, 2013 at 12:37 pm by Morbid
Calaway, FL - Tyler Jett, the 7-year-old boy who was mauled by two of his neighbor’s bulldogs, has died from his injuries.
Tyler was riding his bicycle home from school when he was dragged off his bike by two bulldogs, an Alapaha blue blood and a brindle, both owned by Edward Daniels. Family members rushed to help Tyler after hearing his screams and managed to pull the dogs off him.
Neighbors told police that moments before the two dogs turned their attention on Tyler, they had been chasing after another child. “Tyler did not provoke these dogs,” Tyler’s stepmother said. “These dogs (dragged) this 7-year-old across my front yard.”
Tyler Jett was rushed to the pediatric intensive care unit at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, where he remained in a coma, before dying days later from a punctured carotid artery.
Daniels was initially arrested on drugs charges after police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia at his home, but was later charged with tampering with evidence after he allegedly washed blood from the dogs’ faces after the attack.
The animal control officer who spoke with Daniels after the attack told deputies he had a “non-caring attitude” when he learned his two dogs had viciously attacked Tyler. Daniels remained in jail Sunday evening on a $29,000 bond.…

March 28, 2013 at 9:09 am by Morbid
Bryan County, GA – A 2-year-old-girl was killed in her backyard after seven seven dogs, all pit bulls or pit bull mixes, mauled her to death while her grandmother slept inside the house.
According to Bryan County Deputy Sheriff James Beatty, the girl’s grandmother woke up after hearing a commotion outside and discovered the dogs attacking 21-month-old Monica Renee Laminack in the backyard. She, along with other family members, rushed outside to pull the dogs off the girl, but she was already dead.
“When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do,” Beatty said.
Police are not sure why the girl was alone with the dogs or what made them suddenly attack her. Beatty said the girl’s 12-year-old brother may have taken her out to play and forgot she was out there, or she may have gone out through a doggy door.
“Apparently what happened is the child and the dogs were all in the house together and exited the house through the doggie door,” Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said during a press conference Thursday morning in Pembroke.…

March 21, 2013 at 11:47 am by Morbid
Tulsa, OK – Two women were seriously injured after a pit bull burst through the door of a home and attacked them, not stopping until a bullet was put into the back of the dog’s head.
The women were in a Tulsa neighborhood doing some old-fashioned, door-to-door ministering when they arrived at one home that contained a pit bull that did not appreciate them doing the Lord’s work.
After knocking on the door, the pit bull burst through the door and began attacking the women, biting them in their faces, arms and legs. The dog’s owner and witnesses tried helping, but were unable to get the dog to stop mauling the women.
But Michael Harrell, who was at work a few blocks away, heard the victims’ screams and had two items to stop the dog in its tracks; a conceal-carry permit and a handgun.
After rushing to the home in his truck, Harrell tried getting the dog off of the two women so he could get a clear shot. After about 10 to 15 seconds of yelling at the dog, the pit bull finally quit attacking the women and charged after him.…

March 15, 2013 at 10:41 am by Morbid
Westwego, LA - Linda Henry, 54, lost an eye, an ear and both arms, after she was attacked by three pit bulls she and her boyfriend had raised since they were puppies.
Henry and her boyfriend, Clarence Allen, have raised four pit bulls inside their home and treated them like their own kids. On Wednesday afternoon, Henry walked into her home and within minutes she was fighting for her life.
For reasons unknown at this time, Zeus, a 4-year-old male; Brutus, a 2-year-old male; and Ghost, a 4-year-old female, attacked Henry. A neighbor heard Henry yelling and called police while another tried getting inside the home, only to be attacked by one of the dogs.
When police arrived, they found Henry being mauled by all three dogs. “They could hear the woman screaming in the house,” said Police Chief Dwayne “Poncho” Munch. “They saw all three dogs biting her.”
Two of the dogs were shot and killed after they turned on the officers. A third dog was shot while still mauling Henry. A fourth dog, Big Lucy, had been in a back room and was not seen attacking Henry.…

March 14, 2013 at 11:08 am by Morbid
Bronx, NY - Surveillance video captured a pit bull attacking a 6-year-old girl walking on a sidewalk in the Bronx Sunday afternoon.
In the video you can see as the girl and her grandmother are walking down Webster Avenue when the dog charges after the girl from across the street, latches on to her, then starts dragging the little girl around the sidewalk.
The girl’s grandmother tries desperately to protect her, to no avail. Other people rush in and start kicking the pit bull and are finally able to pull it off of the girl.
“At first the dog tried to bite her in the face, but he grabbed the jacket, he bit her on the leg,” said Eduardo Candelier, who was one of the people who rushed in to help. ”The girl was crying, she was going crazy.”
The owner of the dog was also present and reportedly yelled at the crowd to leave his dog alone, then put the dog on a leash after witnesses were able to pull it off the girl it was trying to eat.…

HODGES, S.C. —A 65-year-old woman in South Carolina was killed by a pit bull while babysitting her grandchildren.
Betty Todd was babysitting her three grandchildren – ages 1 to 12 - while her son and his wife went to dinner Tuesday night.
For reasons unknown, the family pit bull began viciously attacking Todd. The oldest grandchild tried to get the dog off her grandmother but was unable to. The girl gathered her siblings into a room that did not contain their screaming grandmother being killed by their dog and called her father for help.
When police arrived at the home, they were greeted at the door by an aggressive pit bull with blood on its mouth, chest and paws. At the same time, Todd’s son and his wife pulled up and were able to corral the dog into another room of the house.
Todd was found unresponsive with puncture wounds to her head, face and neck. EMS attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. The coroner stated Betty Todd died of neck and spinal injuries.…

November 15, 2012 at 10:31 am by Morbid
BIG ROCK, IL – A man in Illinois returned home to find that his 44-year-old wife had been killed by a mastiff they had adopted from a family member a week earlier.
The body of Dawn Brown was discovered by her husband Monday afternoon. She had suffered fatal bite wound to the neck, apparently inflicted by a Mastiff they had recently brought into the home.
Brown had been alone in the home with the dog and the couple’s two other dogs, a boxer and a pit bull mix. Her husband tried to resuscitate Brown, but she had died had died hours before he found her.
Police are investigating what may have prompted the attack and if the animal, which weighed an estimated 130 to 140 pounds, had shown any violent behavior in the past.
The previous owners say the dog had never been violent and that they only gave the dog up because they simply couldn’t care for it any longer.
Dawn was firefighter and paramedic for the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, and her co-workers are the ones who responded to the call. “To pronounce one of your own dead is probably one of the hardest things we have to do,” said Big Rock Fire Cpt.…

HOLLYWOOD, FL – Unlike most dog attack stories I post about, I am posting this one to help get the word out on how you can help out an 11-year-old girl after she had a portion of her face bitten off by a friend’s dog.
Back in June, 11-year-old Jacklyn Tucker was spending the night with a friend when her face was mauled by a dog. She was sleeping on the couch when she rolled off to the floor. When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by Tanker, her friend’s Jack Russell Terrier-English Bulldog mix, and Tanker wasn’t happy.
“I just laid there, and I closed my eyes, hoping the dog would just go away,” Tucker said.
But Tanker didn’t. Instead, Tanker decided to chew off the girl’s face, tearing off three-quarters of her upper lip and part of her nose. EMS arrived and rushed Jacklyn to the hospital after the dog’s owner handed them Jacklyn’s lips that he had picked up off the floor.
After an initial operation to repair the damage that resulted in some complications, Jacklyn underwent an advanced form of plastic surgery, called a lip switch, in which surgeons took a wedge from her lower lip, flipped it upside down and inserted it into her upper lip.…

MOORE HAVEN, FL – A 17-year-old in Florida is lucky to be alive today after being attacked by an 11-foot alligator and only losing part of his arm.
The only reason why I am even posting this story is because of the victim, Kaleb Langdale, also known as Fred. The quotes from his friends are amusing and if they actually reflect Fred’s attitude, then he may be one of the few teens I actually like.
But before I get to the quotes, here’s what happened yesterday when Fred and some friends took a dip in in the Caloosahatchee River and caught the attention of a hungry gator.
“As soon as he’d seen Fred, the gator was coming after him. On top of the water, as fast as he could pedal, his tail was wagging back and forth, he was coming,” said Gary Beck.
Growing up in Florida, Fred and his friends are aware they are sharing the water with alligators, but this time of year means the animals are especially active.…

Shirley, Mass. – Someone emailed us this story about a pit bull named Lily that was hit by a train after dragging an unconscious woman off some railroad tracks. They asked that we post about it to show not all pit bulls are murderous baby rapers.
So here goes.
A pit bull’s attempts to push a woman in front of a moving train were unsuccessful and the dog ended up getting hit by the train instead.
According to one website owner, the dog probably crept up behind the woman as she walked along the tracks in an attempt to push her into the path of an oncoming train.
“Blood lust must have clouded the pit bull’s calculations, causing the pushed woman to fall away from the tracks and was knocked unconscious,” said the man who tracks pit bull incidents in hopes of thwarting their attempts to take over the world in the name of Satan. ”The dog was probably so enraged at its failure to remove another human from the planet, that it was unable to get out of the train’s path in time and was struck.”
Because of powers only bestowed upon the Devil’s minions, the pit bull only suffered a fractured pelvis and a leg that will have to be amputated.…

May 4, 2012 at 8:25 am by Morbid
CULPEPER, VA – The other day we had a commenter in one of our dog stories relay a story of someone shooting a dog after it had tried to attack a baby. It was a real hit with our resident animal lovers.
Coincidentally, we now have another story involving a dog who bit a baby, and an owner who shot it immediately afterwards. (*puts popcorn in microwave*)
An infant in Virginia hasn’t even been breathing air for a month when the family’s Jack Russell terrier decided to use the 20-day-old as a chew toy. The dog had gotten into the child’s bassinet while the mother took a nap.
Luckily the baby’s father returned home as the attack was in progress, but the dog had already bitten off the infant’s ear. The child was rushed to the hospital to treat multiple bite wounds to the buttocks and to have the ear sewn back on. The infant is currently in stable condition.
Lillian Leo, who raises and sells Jack Russell terriers, says she will not sell the dogs to families with small children.…

April 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm by Morbid
Henderson, NV – A 1-year-old boy died on Saturday after being attacked by the family dog while celebrating his first birthday with family.
The unidentified boy was at his grandmother’s house with family when he crawled over to the family’s six-year old, 120-pound Mastiff/Rhodesian mix to pet it. According to the family, they have raised the dog since he was a puppy and he had never shown aggression towards anyone before.
But on this occasion the dog attacked the boy, latching his mouth around the little boy’s head and then shaking him like a chew toy. The boy’s grandmother immediately tried to pull the boy out of the dog’s mouth to no avail.
The boy’s father was upstairs when the attack occurred but was able to get the dog to let go within 20 seconds of the attack. But the damage to the boy was devastating. “The baby’s face was torn off,” he said. The boy was rushed to the hospital but would die a few hours later.
Animal control officers took the dog to an animal shelter where he will be quarantined for ten days.…

DES PLAINES, IL – A 37-year-old man in Illinois drowned in a condo’s retention pond after being attacked by one or more swans.
Anthony Hensley worked for Knox Swan and Dog LLC, a company that places swans or dogs in areas experiencing problems with the geese population. Hensley was at the Bay Colony Drive condos early Saturday morning, caring for swans they’d placed in their retention pond.
Residents say Hensley has been a regular visitor there for years, often seen on the pond in his kayak caring for the swans and feeding them. But tragedy struck that morning when one or more of the swans attacked him. No one knows exactly what prompted the attack — some thinking he just got too close to their nest or eggs — but whatever the reason, it resulted in Hensley’s kayak flipping over.
He was a good swimmer, but a combination of being fully clothed and wearing boots made it difficult for Hensley to keep his head above water. This was made especially laborious by the swans who continued their assault on Hensley as he tried to swim to shore.…

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after the family pit bull mauled him on Thursday.
Ryan Moody was rushed to the hospital suffering from bite wounds to his face and head, then airlifted to another hospital in Little Rock for surgery. According to his mother, Amber Moody, their nine-month-old pit bull attacked Ryan in the front yard.
Police have since learned that Amber adopted the pit bull from the Humane Society last March. I didn’t know this, but the Humane Society normally doesn’t adopt out pit bulls to families with young children.
Amber was able to get around this technicality by simply putting, “none”‘ in the section of the adoption form asking for the number of children in her home. But some chick at the Humane Society wants to remind everyone that it’s not the breed as any breed of dog poses a threat to young children.
“If a dog is sleeping and the child goes and jumps on it, it doesn’t even know who jumped on it. It’s first reaction is to turn around and snap,” said Margaret Shepherd, the Executive Director of the Humane Society.…
