Redfield, IA – An Iowa man was hospitalized after what first looked to be an armed recovery mission by a team of Delta Force raccoons. Authorities would establish, instead, that the gunfire was the unexpected result of an intentional, albeit poorly implemented, plan.
The melee began last Saturday morning when Larry Godwin, 68, reportedly discovered a raccoon in a live trap that he had set. Soon after, Godwin set upon the plan of an execution-style slaying of the caged animal. Brandishing a .22 caliber handgun, Godwin shot at the trapped raccoon.
The first shot Godwin fired ricocheted from the cage, reportedly striking Godwin in the right lower abdominal area. This caused Godwin to drop the pistol and it fired again, striking him again in almost precisely the same location as the first shot. It is believed that, at this point, the original mission was aborted.
An investigation at the scene presumably established that the caged raccoon was not in the possession of a concealed firearm and, in fact, had no field radio equipment that would indicate the summoning of a heavily-armed extraction team.…

BREMERTON, Wash. – Last Thursday we reported on the 8-year old who was shot in the stomach while in class at Armin Jahr Elementary School. One of her classmates, a 9-year-old boy, brought a gun to school in his backpack where it accidentally discharged.
In that article, a comment was made by the husband of the teacher who was in the classroom where the shooting occurred. He stated that the boy had recently transferred to the school and had been a real problem in the classroom. Now that we have some more information on the boy, there’s no wonder why. He has been surrounded by morons.
The boy is currently in his uncle’s custody after his parents relinquished custody of him and his two sisters to his paternal grandmother. When the boy’s grandmother died from pancreatic cancer in 2010, he was placed with his uncle, Patrick Cochran.
His mother, Jamie Lee Chaffin, has been convicted of forgery as well as possessing meth and marijuana. Charging documents show the boy got the gun from her during a weekend visit and it may have belonged to her boyfriend.…

Vinhedo, Brazil – I don’t normally post stories out of Brazil, but like animal attacks, I am morbidly fascinated by amusement park accidents. This probably stems from the film ROLLERCOASTER and my own experience with a Myrtle Beach roller coaster called The Black Witch that claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl.
In this case, a 14-year-old girl plummeted to her death after falling out of a ride at the Hopi Hari theme park in the Brazilian city of Vinhedo.
The teen, identified as Gabriela Yokuri Michelari, was on the ride ”La Tour Eiffel” with her family when the incident occurred. The ride is a free-fall type ride in which five people are seated side by side, hoisted up a 224-foot tall tower and then dropped 129 feet. After reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour, the riders are slowed down by electromagnetic brakes.
Witnesses say the instant these brakes were activated to stop the fall, the security catch of the girl’s seat opened, causing the girl to fall forward out of the ride, landing face down on the pavement at the base of the tower 80-90 feet below.…

PARKVILLE, Md. - A 13-year-old boy died the other day after he fell out of a moving car and was struck by another vehicle. According to reports, he had opened the front passenger door to throw up, sick from having consumed Four Loko.
Michael Truluck’s mother says her son had spent Saturday afternoon with friends at a fast food restaurant and playing basketball. Just before 6 p.m. he texted her and asked for someone to come pick him and two friends up, so she sent her fiancee to get them.
What they didn’t know was that Truluck was sick from drinking Four Loko, which can be 12% alcohol, an unidentified adult had purchased for him. For those unaware, Four Loko is an alcoholic beverage that once contained caffeine and at one time was marketed as energy drinks. The company that produces it got into some legal issues that led to them removing the caffeine and to stop marketing the product as energy drinks.
Truluck’s friends say he had already thrown up twice before his mother’s fiancee arrived to pick him and his two friends up.…

Chicago, IL – Here’s a sad one to start off the day. A 17-year-old boy with Down syndrome died the other night after he climbed into a high-rise trash chute and plunged 46-stories to his death.
Charles Manley’s parents woke up when an alarm system went off alerting them that he had walked out of their apartment on the 46th floor. When they were unable to find him, they called 911 for help.
Investigators would end up finding Manley on the ground floor in the building’s trash compactor. The teen had opened the door to the trash chute on his floor, climbed in and then fell to his death.
On Tuesday, the medical examiner concluded Manley had died from multiple injuries resulting from the plunge. Investigators are now trying to figure out how Manley was able to into the chute. Residents say the chutes are 4-ft off the floor, about 1 1/2-feet square and do have a door covering the opening.
Manley was well-known in the building, often out talking to the other residents.…

GRIFFITH PARK, CA – This sad story goes out to a group of people in Finland who are reading the site when they should be working.
Actress and dancer Zina Feeley was killed the other day while trying to help an injured possum.
Feeley was just days away from her 67 birthday when she tried to help the animal shortly after midnight Sunday. Police say she Feely was driving when she saw the animal in the road and stopped to give assistance. As she was walking towards the animal, she was struck by a car.
The impact threw Feeley into the opposite lane where she was struck by a second vehicle and drug underneath the car for over 600 feet. She was then struck by a third vehicle. The drivers of the first two vehicles that hit Feely stayed at the scene, the third one did not.
Paramedics pronounced Feely dead at the scene and police would like to talk to the motorists who fled, described as driving a white car.…

St. Petersburg, FL – A pastor’s daughter was shot in the head while in church on Sunday after a man accidentally discharged a gun he was showing to another church member.
Police say 20-year-old Hannah Kelley was shot in the head after a gun her boyfriend, Dustin Bueller, and two other men were looking at inside a closet at St. Petersburg’s Grace Connection Church after Sunday’s service.
The men were looking at a 9mm owned by Moises Zambrana, a licensed security guard who has a carry permit for the firearm, after Bueller informed Zambrana that he was interesting in purchasing a handgun.
Zambrana was in the process of showing the firearm’s safety features when it discharged a round. Turns out he had removed the gun’s clip but did not check to see if there was a round chambered. There was. The bullet passed through the closet they were standing in and struck Kelley in the head.
Kelly, whose father is the pastor of the church, was rushed to Bayfront Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.…

Mansfield, OH – Police say that on the night of Jan. 31, Paul Lovely, 44, swerved off the road, over-corrected, and ended up hitting a tree while intoxicated.
“At that point he got out of the vehicle, and – with a bottle of whiskey in his hand – walked east to Lexington Avenue and waited for the light to turn green,” Mansfield police Officer Korey Kaufman said.
“The light turned green and he just came out of nowhere,” Jordan Eagleston, the driver of the first vehicle to hit Lovely, said. “I don’t know why he would try to cross the road then.”
Police reports say that the impact from Eagleston’s car sent Lovely airborne. He landed in the street. Lovely was then struck by a second vehicle while laying on the ground.
“When we found him, he had a bottle of liquor laying next to him in the road,” Police Sgt. Ken Carroll said.
Lovely was transported to a local hospital with injuries. He was initially listed as being in stable condition.…

Ashford, WI — Police say that at 3:34 a.m. Saturday, 18-year-old Carly Ottery was driving her Chevy Tahoe at a high rate of speed when she lost control and went into a field. Authorities say that the vehicle rolled and flipped several times. Ottery had eight other girls in her car. Three are now dead. The rest, including Ottery, are injured.
According to the sheriff’s log, Campbellsport emergency personnel responded to the crash scene with the Jaws of Life. A chaplain was also called to the scene.
Sabrina Stahl, 15, and Caitlan Scannell, 17, were pronounced dead at the scene. Katie Berg, 16 – who was originally reported as having died at the scene – was taken by helicopter from the crash site. She would later die from her injuries Sunday at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.
Injured in the crash and taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee were Allie Adams, 16; Jessica Harbin, 16; Theresa Flood, 16; and Kasandra Anderson, 17. All were listed in serious condition Saturday.…

Baily, CO - Catrina Fox, 17, was killed late Friday night after – according to reports – intentionally opening the door of a car driven by her mother and jumping out. Fox ended up in the path of another car.
“I’ve never seen anything like that. She just got hit at full speed. It was horrific,” witness Dean Krakel later told news media.
A Colorado State police representative said that Fox was riding home to Bailey from Denver at around 1 a.m. when she ‘kicked open the door of her mom’s sedan and leapt onto US 285.’ She was then promptly hit by a 17-year-old boy from Littleton Colorado driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said that the driver of the PT Cruiser and his passengers were uninjured.
Krakel said that Fox’s mother passed out from shock after the accident, and the people who ran over the teen were “wailing” with grief.
It was reported that Fox had recently earned her GED and was planning on heading to California.…

Kalida, OH - Ohio state police say Dylan T. Brinkman, 25, was driving about 1am Saturday on a rural highway when his vehicle dropped off the east side of the roadway, he overcorrected, and then slid off the west side of the road.
Brinkman’s SUV reportedly struck a utility pole broadside on its passenger side which severed the pole and brought the power lines crashing down. Authorities said that Brinkman – who is suspected by police to have been drinking – then got out of his vehicle and began walking down the road.
The police report goes on to say that nearby resident, 42-year-old Michael E. Feldman (pictured), was at home when his power went out. Police said that the power outage prompted Feldman to leave his wife and 3 and 1/2-year-old daughter behind while he got into his car and drove the one-half mile to the crash site to help.
Once there, he got out of his vehicle to check the now empty SUV and – while walking to the crashed vehicle – stepped on a live power line, fell on to it due to the initial shock, and was electrocuted.…

EL CAJON, CA – A jury has awarded a man $7 million after a motorcycle accident shortened his penis by almost 2-inches.
Back in 2007, Matthew Wall was on driving his Harley Davidson to a naval base in San Diego when a courtesy shuttle from Rancho Auto Group turned left in front of him, causing him to crash into the side of the van.
As a result, the Navy officer suffered a fracture of his pubic ramus bone and a crushing injury to his penis and damage to the nerve and arteries of the penis. *hand involuntarily cups balls, legs cross automatically*
Wall had to have reconstructive surgery performed on his penis, which was successful, but left him with a penis 1.5 inches shorter. He filed a lawsuit against Rancho Auto Group and its subsidiary, Group Auto 1.
During the trial it was revealed that the shuttle driver, Pedro Flores Miramontes, was not a U.S. citizen and was driving on an expired license. He had also received no training on driving the shuttle.…

NEVADA CITY, Calif. – It’s been awhile since we’ve had an article regarding someone dying via a wood chipper, but that ends today after a man clearing brush in California was killed after being pulled into one.
Reports are that 50-year-old Martin Lara was feeding branches into an industrial-sized wood chipper when he got tangled in a rope used to bundle branches and was pulled into the machine head first. Other workers heard a loud scream from the 50-year-old man but were unable to do anything to help the father of two.
This poor bastard did not suffer the dreaded “total morselization” seen in other incidents where a person is pulled completely through a wood chipper, but was decapitated and found tangled in the wood chipper’s rotors.
They used to be hard to find, but if you do a quick Google search, you can see what happens to the human body when it has been pulled into one of these machines. It’s pretty much what you’d expect.

Fredericksburg, OH — A 15-year-old Amish girl named Rachel Yoder was riding home alone Thursday night after attending a Christmas party at a nearby produce farm. Inexplicably, as she approached her home, she fell out of the buggy onto the ground. Her brother found her after he saw her horse and buggy circling around her.
The teen died of an apparent head injury. At first, authorities reportedly believed that she had fallen out of the buggy and hit her head. A hospital examination revealed that, in fact, she had been shot in the head.
Wayne County sheriff’s Capt. Douglas Hunter said his department traced a trail of blood along the road the girl had traveled back about three-eighths of a mile into neighboring Holmes County – an area of farms and rolling hills. Although the site of the shooting had been pinpointed, the cause was unknown.
The residents in the area were left to speculate for days. Then, Holmes County Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly said a family who lived about 1.5 miles from the site of the teen’s fatal gunshot wound contacted authorities with the probable cause.…

ARLINGTON, TX – Let’s lighten things up just a bit with some video of a cart crashing into people.
An electric cart being used to pick up pylons and yard markers at Cowboys Stadium went Maximum Overdrive as it took off across the field with no driver and plowed into a group of people conducting an interview midfield.
The incident was captured on camera after a high school championship game between Spring Dekaney and Cibolo Steele on Saturday night. Dekaney coach Willie Amendola was being interviewed near the midfield when the runaway electric cart took off from the end zone and made a beeline towards the huddle consisting of about 7 to 8 people.
After plowing through the group and knocking them over like bowling pins, the cart emerged from the mass of bodies with coach Amendola now riding shotgun. He tries to steer the cart for a second before simply rolling out of it. That’s when a field worker is finally able to jump in and stop the cart.
Luckily no one was seriously injured or I may have felt a little guilty getting a chuckle out of Amendola’s reaction as he finds himself being interviewed one second, and then riding shotgun in a runaway cart headed towards the end zone the next.…

New York, NY – Less than a week ago we reported on a woman in California who was crushed by the elevator she tried to climb out of when it became stuck between floors. Today, in New York, a woman was killed as she was getting on an elevator.
Officials say the woman was stepping into an elevator on the first floor of a midtown Manhattan office building when it suddenly shot upward. The woman, who was half in the car when it began its sudden ascent, was crushed between the elevator and the shaft wall. Some reports say her foot or leg was caught in the closing doors, while other say the elevator doors remained open the entire time.
Either way, the elevator was not done being a complete dick and became stuck between floors. Two other women in the elevator at the time of the incident were not injured but were taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation. I’m sure what they went through was traumatic, but pales in comparison to what happened to Karen Steinau.…

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A poor woman in California met a horrifying end when she was crushed by an elevator after it became stuck between floors and she tried to climb out.
Annette Lujan, 48, was inside an elevator at Cal State Long Beach when it became stuck somewhere near the third floor. She had already alerted others that she was trapped inside and fire crews were on their way to assist her. But Lujan decided to take matters into her own hands and asked someone who was there to help her climb out.
Lujan had gotten about halfway out of the elevator when, like a horror movie, the damn thing decided this was the perfect time not to be stuck any longer. The 2000-pound elevator moved and Lujan was crushed between the floor of the elevator and the shaft.
We posted a similar story a couple years ago in which the drummer for the band Maserati, Gerhardt Fuchs, died after trying to jump out of an elevator stuck between floors.…

DALLAS, Texas - A Texas fashion model is recovering in the hospital after the airplane propeller she walked into sliced off her hand and caused injuries to her shoulder, head and brain.
Lauren Scruggs, 23, works as the editor of LoLoMag.com and had just exited a small airplane Saturday night after getting an aerial view of Christmas lights when she somehow walked into the single engine’s propeller.
Scruggs is in stable condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital where she has already underwent facial and shoulder reconstruction surgeries. Her family says she still has to undergo further surgery and are concerned about the injuries to her left eye and brain.
“They’re telling us it’s going to be a long recovery,” Jeff Scruggs said. “Obviously she’s had a lot of trauma to her head, and she lost her left hand and her left eye is questionable. We’re praying she’ll regain her sight.”
Investigators are not sure how the communications major walked into the propeller, but her family thinks she was turning to thank the pilot and walked right into it.…

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA – A man sitting in a vehicle with his children died after he accidentally shot himself with his own gun.
Police say the 45-year-old man was sitting in a minivan with his two children while his wife returned a movie to a Redbox. Reports are the man went to unbuckle his seatbelt when he accidentally pulled the trigger of his .40-caliber Glock, shooting himself in the hip.
His wife ran back to the vehicle after she heard a popping noise, and her husband told her he thought he had shot himself. He was right, and possible shredded his femoral artery as by time a Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene a few minutes later, the man had already suffered significant blood loss and was unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
I couldn’t find any details regarding exactly where the man was carrying his firearm, but just going by where he was shot and how it happened, it definitely wasn’t in a holster.…

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – I am still recuperating from a weekend full of pulled pork and Evan Williams, so bear with me as I fumble through a few stories on my favorite day of the year. Starting with one out of Louisville in which another Cintas worker suffered a horrible fate after getting stuck inside an industrial dryer.
Reports are that 55-year-old Kevin Burgess arrived to work early Friday morning and began working on an industrial dryer before any of the other employees arrived. Investigator are not sure how, but Burgess fell through the top of the dryer while it was running. They believe the machinery may have jumped started, knocking him in. He was in there for almost 30 minutes until a co-worker came into work and found him. Sadly, Burgess died from multiple blunt force injuries.
Burgess would have not been able to free himself on his own, due in part to the doors closing automatically once the dryer is started and the fact that are no safety mechanisms to stop the dryer in this particular circumstance. Cintas corporate offices sent out a statement, which reads: “Cintas is devastated to have learned about the accident that took the life of one of our employee-partners at our uniform rental facility in Louisville overnight.…
