SEVILLE, SPAIN – A 25-year-old mother of three was cut in half by a hospital elevator shortly after giving birth.

The horrific accident happened as Rocio Cortes Nunes was being moved between floors at Virgen de Valme Hospital.

Nunes was being transported on a stretcher to the maternity ward after having given birth to her daughter via cesarean.

Once inside the elevator, the doors opened and closed but did not move floors. The hospital staff member with Nunes decided to use another elevator and began wheeling Nunes out.

Nunes, still on the stretcher, was halfway out of the elevator when the doors closed and the elevator began moving floors.

According to reports, the poor woman was killed when she was cut in two. Her family, who were waiting on her on the floor above, stated they heard a loud “loud blow” come from inside the elevator.

It would take firefighters two hours to remove her body, which was stuck in the doors. It was initially thought that her newborn was with her at the time of the accident, but she had already been taken to another hospital due to a heart condition.…

DENVER, CO — An 82-year-old man died inside a parking garage elevator after he got stuck inside and no one answered his calls for help.

Isaak Komisarchik, who suffers from dementia, was reported missing after he was last seen wearing pajamas at 2:30 p.m. July 5 at a nearby nursing facility.

Search crews posted missing person posters as they looked for the man, and Denver firefighters ended up searching five nearby ponds.

It would be almost a month later before anyone learned Komisarchik’s fate, and it was quite horrific.

Turns out that Komisarchik had wandered nearly a mile away to the Woodstream Village apartments, where he got inside an elevator attached to a parking garage that had been closed for renovations.

For reasons unknown at this time, the man was unable to get out. During an 8-minute period, the poor guy twice used the elevator’s emergency call button, but no help came.

“The pushing of the call button did trigger a notification to the elevator management company, MEI Total Elevator Solutions.…

COLUMBUS, OH – One person is dead and seven others injured after a ride at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned, sending riders flying through the air.

There are news articles everywhere about this incident, but if there is one thing that fascinates me more than animal attacks, it is amusement park accidents.

Anyway, the incident happened yesterday evening on the opening night of the Ohio State Fair. That’s when a ride called the Fireball had a major malfunction resulting in the death of an 18-year-old.

The ride holds 24 passengers in four-seat sections at the end of six spoke arms, swinging the riders like a pendulum 40 feet above the ground while spinning them at 13 revolutions per minute. You can check out this page for ride info and some video of it not throwing riders to their deaths.

For reasons currently unknown, one of the four-seat sections detached from the ride while on an upswing. As you can see in the video below, two people are sent flying from the ride while the others were still strapped in their seats.…

BRIDGEWATER, NH – A 12-year-old girl was killed after her father accidentally ran her over with a power boat.

According to the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol, Zoe Anderson was with her family learning to water ski on Newfound Lake when she fell.

As her father, Sherwood Anderson, turned the boat towards where his daughter had fallen in order to bring back the ski line, his attention “was momentarily distracted as his hat was blown from his head,” according to police.

Although Anderson had put the boat into neutral, it glided over Zoe at a slow speed and she was struck by the boat’s propeller, causing serious injuries to her torso. Zoe’s mother and 14-year-old sister were also on the boat when she was struck.

“Family members did enter the water and were able to remove the victim from the water,” Sgt. Joshua Dirth said. “At that point. they did call 911, and they made transport back to the shoreline.”

First responders attempted to revive her with CPR while waiting on a medical helicopter, but officials said Zoe died before she could be transported.…

BELTON, TX – A 4-year-old girl has died after she was entangled in the propellers of a houseboat, and her father has lost his legs trying to save her.

The incident happened Friday night at 7:45 p.m. when a 20-foot houseboat began backing up in a swimmer’s area of Temple Lake Park and ran into 4-year-old Kaitlyn Oliver.

The little girl was struck by the boat’s two propellers and her body became lodged between them.

Her 37-year-old father, Pat Oliver, saw what happened and jumped in the water to help, losing both of his legs in the process.

Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save Kaitlyn despite the help of others at the scene who tried to dislodge her from the propellers.

Pat Oliver was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He has already undergone multiple surgeries in hopes of having him fitted with prosthetic limbs.

On Saturday, police arrested the boat’s driver, 43-year-old Jason Bernal, and charged him with criminal negligent homicide. He’s looking at a max of two years in jail if convicted but police say more charges may be pending.…

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A Florida man was killed last week after he got tangled up in the machinery of the street sweeper he was operating.

The accident happened early Saturday morning in a McDonald’s parking lot when 49-year-old Robert Shiver apparently tried getting something out from under his sweeper.

A couple at the shopping center said they heard Shiver screaming for help and found Shiver partially stuck inside the sweeper’s vacuum system.

There was nothing that could be done for Shiver at the point because, according to the report, he was already dead.

Police are trying to figure out exactly how the accident happened, and hope that nearby surveillance cameras may help.

“Businesses in the area have some surveillance,” Sgt. Mark Musser of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said, “We’ll be reviewing that to see exactly what occurred. No foul play, it just appears to be a terrible accident at this point.”

The company that owns the sweeper, Countryside Power Sweeping, has declined to comment on Shiver’s death.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help the family pay for Shiver’s funeral.…

STEILACOOM, WA – A pregnant woman is dead after her 6-year-old son accidentally ran her over with a minivan.

The incident happened Monday afternoon across the road from the Sunnyside Beach Park parking lot.

Shannon MacLeod, 35, was outside of the running van loading items in the back when her 6-year-old son managed to put the vehicle in neutral or reverse.

MacLeod tried stopping the van but was run over and pinned underneath the vehicle. After firefighters used equipment to lift the van off of her, but she would die as she was being transported to the hospital.

However, doctors were able to save her baby via emergency C-section. Her family says the baby, named Joseph, weighed only 5 pounds and is very fragile.

This is the second tragedy to hit the family in recent months, having lost all of their possessions in a fire last December.

“We’re just trying to keep us all together that’s all,” her son Nathan said. “No matter how much she struggled or how much she starved her kids always came first and it’s always been like that with my mom.”

As you can probably imagine, a GoFundme page has been created to help with MacLeod’s funeral and to help her surviving six seven children.…

VIERA, FL – An elderly man died after hitting a fire hydrant and then getting sucked into a hole made by the rushing water.

The freak accident happened on Wednesday after 89-year-old Robert Dreyer accidentally hit a fire hydrant on the side of the road.

Police say the collision was minor, but the impact caused water to spew from the hydrant.

Witnesses said Dreyer appeared unhurt when he got out of his car, but the ground had given way because of the rushing water and he dropped straight down into a 5-foot-deep, watery grave.

“There was a divot in the space where the fire hydrant used to be and right adjacent to his driver’s door,” said Channing Taylor with the Florida Highway Patrol. “He fell into that divot”

Witnesses pulled Dreyer out of the water moments later, but he would be pronounced dead after being transported to Viera Hospital. It was his 89th birthday.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating the incident.

ATLANTA, GA – A 5-year-old boy died after he was crushed to death by a revolving restaurant in Atlanta.

The tragic incident happened Friday night as Charlie Holt and his parents were eating lunch at the Sun Dial, a 73-story restaurant at the top of Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel that rotates 360-degrees.

According to police, the boy wandered about five feet from his parents’ table when he got stuck between a rotating portion of the floor and a wall, a space of only about 4 to 5 inches.

“His whole body was caught between four to five inches of space.” Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard said. “His head took the brunt of the injury.”

The floor automatically cut off and staff, along with patrons at the restaurant, immediately tried everything they could to save Charlie.

“The amount of people who were helping was amazing,” Pickard said. “They were moving furniture, they were pulling chairs — chairs that were bolted to the floor — they were pulling them up to try to get the child out.”

First-responders were on the scene within minutes, but Charlie was already unresponsive.…

ALMERIA, SPAIN – Three people, including two children, were burned to death inside a cave after a teen set a fire at the opening of the cave and turned it into a chimney.

I normally don’t post horrible stories from around the globe, but this one out of Spain was too horrific and unique to not report on.

Here’s what I can gather from DailyMail’s incorrect details, as well as Google translating local reports of the incident.

In the mountains of the northern part of Almeria, there is a limestone cave that young people use as a hideout where young people often go to drink, smoke and listen to music. At around 8 p.m. Monday night, 21-year-old Alejandro P., a 17-year-old boy and two girls aged 14 and 12-years-old were inside the cave.

Another group of teens arrived and wanted to go inside the cave as well, but were denied entry. A 17-year-old with a history of setting fires was not happy about the rejection and set fire to a couch at the mouth of the cave to flush the others out.…

BARRINGTON, RI – Two 97-year-old twin sisters froze to death Saturday after they both fell outside and were stranded overnight in freezing temperatures.

Martha Williams and her twin sister, Jean Haley, had returned to Haley’s home Friday night after having dinner with their 89-year-old sister.

Investigators say that as Williams was leaving Haley’s home, she fell in the driveway near the rear of her car. Haley saw what happened and went to go inside her home and call for help, but fell inside her garage.

“At this time investigators believe that foul play was not involved and Ms. Williams may have fallen in the driveway walking to her car. Ms. Haley may have tripped on a rug on the floor of the garage as she attempted to enter her house to call for assistance,” Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said in a statement.

Both women remained where they fell, enduring overnight temperatures that dropped to as low as 11 degrees, with wind chills as low as minus 8. They were not found until the next morning when a neighbor found them and called 911.…

Yasmeen BanderasAMARILLO, TX – A father accidentally killed four of his eight children after he incorrectly used professional-grade pesticide underneath the family’s home.

Peter Balderas was trying to get rid of mice when he placed pellets known as Weevil-Cide under the house. This pesticide contains aluminum phosphide is to be placed by two fully trained professionals at a time.

This product is normally used industrially in ship hulls or other large areas, and is strictly prohibited on single and multi-family residential properties. When neighbors began to complain about the smell of the pesticide, Peter used a water hose to spray the pellets in hopes of dampening the smell.

While I’m not sure if that worked, what is known is that when the water mixed with the pellets, phosphine gas was created and slowly leaked into the home that the family breathed in over the course of two days. On Monday, police were called after someone who stopped by to see the family saw that everyone was sick.

When responders arrived, one child was already dead.…

DES MOINES, IA — A man in Iowa has died at a gym after he dropped a 315-pound barbell on his neck.

According to the Elite Edge Transformation Center, the accident happened in their gym Monday morning as 22-year-old Kyle Thomson was bench pressing.

The barbell slipped from his grasp and, despite there being spotters present, the barbell fell and crushed his neck. Thomson was taken to the hospital where he later died from severe internal injuries.

Joe Brammer, owner of Elite Edge Transformation Center, said Thompson was working out as part of their Warriors advanced training program when the accident happened. He also said there was spotter assisting Thompson at the time.

“This is a difficult and painful time, and our thoughts are with the member’s family. Grief counselors are meeting with staff and gym members over the next couple of days. We would ask that you keep his family in your prayers,” said Brammer.

Thompson was a student at Iowa State University, and a former student at East High School where he was captain of the football team and selected as MVP during the baseball season of his senior year.…

HILLSBOROUGH, NC – Police have charged a man after an unmanned construction truck rolled down a hill and killed a 5-year-old boy standing in his driveway.

The incident happened the day after Christmas in a subdivision that is still in the process of being built. An unmanned truck that was being loaded with dirt “became loose and rolled down the hill,” said Hillsborough spokeswoman Catherine Wright.

The truck rolled down a hill, snapped overhead power lines, and through several yards before crashing into the side of a house.

Several children were playing soccer in the driveway of the home before it was hit, and 5-year-old William Copeland was unable to get out of the way. He was struck by the truck and died from his injuries.

Police determined Alejandro Suarez was responsible for the truck and ensuring it was properly secured, and charged him with misdemeanor death by vehicle. He was booked into the Orange County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.

“We will also be following up the investigation, looking at the mechanical condition of the vehicle and confirming all of the working relationships, regarding specifically which company the crew was working for,” said Hillsborough Police Chief Duane Hampton.…

JOHNSTOWN, PA – A 5-month-old baby starved to death in a bassinet after her parents both died of heroin overdoses.

Police were called to the home of a couple after someone went inside to check on the family that had not been seen or heard from in a week.

Once inside, they found 27-year-old Jason Chambers and 19-year-old Chelsea Cardaro dead from heroin overdoses. Chambers was on the first floor while Cardaro was found in a second-floor bathroom.

But they got off lucky compared to their 5-month-old daughter, Summer Chambers. She was found dead in a bassinet after suffering “three to four days” of dehydration and starvation.

Officials believe the family has been dead for a week. Neighbors last saw the family Dec. 11, and thought they had taken a planned trip to New York.

“It’s an unfortunate incident where they both possibly overdosed at the same time – and being from out of town, not having anybody in town,” said Johnstown police Capt. Chad Miller. “It was too long for anybody to notice that they were missing.”

This isn’t the first time police had been to the home on an overdose call.…

SADDLE BROOK, NJ – A couple had to make the tough decision to take their 3-month-old off of life support after being dropped on his head by a babysitter.

Police say Reece Modzelewski was being watched by a female family member on Tuesday when she accidentally dropped him on his head.

When police arrived at the home, Reece was unconscious and unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where he was put on life support.

Following his hospitalization, Reece’s father, 32-year-old Mark Modzelewski, posted on Facebook:

My little baby boy is dying and there’s nothing I can do to help or comfort him,’ Mark Modzelewski wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday. ‘I don’t know if he can hear, see, taste or touch anymore. My heart has been torn out of my chest.

A second of misfortune will turn into a lifetime of pain as is the case with most tragedies. The fact that this happening so close to Christmas and right between both of our birthdays will only make it more difficult.

LAKE DELTON, WI – A Florida teen on vacation in Wisconsin died after trying to sled down a snow-covered water-slide.

The teen, 16-year-old Addison Williams, was with his brother and a friend Wednesday night when they  trespassed into a fenced-off area of Water and Theme Park.

The three boys climbed to the top of an 85-foot tall, snow-covered slide with intentions of sledding down it.

Two of the boys came to their senses and decided it was too dangerous, but Williams decided to go through with it.

He made it halfway down before his sled got stuck in the snow. As Williams tried freeing the sled, he fell over the side of the slide and died when he hit the ground 35-feet below.

According to Lake Delton Police Chief Daniel Hardman, the family were vacationing in the area to see snow. They were staying in a hotel near the park and were on the scene shortly after it happened.

The owner of the park said the fence and other safety measures were put in place for a reason, and there’s nothing more he could have done to prevent the boys from getting in.…

WHITTIER, CA – One woman is dead and a child is in critical condition after a tree fell on them as they posed for wedding pictures.

It happened Saturday afternoon at Whittier’s Penn Park as a bridal party had gathered near a 100-foot eucalyptus tree to take a group photo.

For reasons currently being investigated, the tree fell over and trapped up to 20 people. One person, currently being reported as the mother of the bride, was killed.

Gilbert Duran posted on Facebook that he helped pull the woman from under the tree, saying he was pretty sure she was already dead.

“They’re taking pictures under this tree and all of a sudden it jut collapsed,” Duran said. “We just watched some little kids go flat underneath that tree.”

Five other people suffered minor and moderate injuries, including a 4-year-old girl who was reportedly in critical condition due to a head injury.

Why the tree fell is unknown at this time, but officials said it probably the California drought could have weakened the 50-year-old tree.…
