SMITHS GROVE, Ky. - Not sure if any of you have been following this or not, but I found it kind of interesting. The actual story concerns a Sheriff’s Deputy, Randall Creek, 41, who shot his ex-girlfriend, Debbie Rediess, 46, to death in her driveway after a 3-month breakup. He was then on the run and was apprehended on Saturday at a Days Inn in Waterloo, Iowa. Case closed, kinda. Randolph County, NC - Back on September 6th, Randolph County deputies responded to a call and found 72-year-old Paul Donald Grainger dead in his mobile home. Family members stated they found him that way and that the place had been ransacked and a lot of items were missing. Seemed like a robbery gone bad until Monday, when his wife Nancy Brooks Grainger, 60, and his step-daughter Brandi Lea Grainger, 19, where arrested after being interviewed by police.…

UPDATE 10/7/08 – Alan Jones has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the strangulation death of Erin Maxwell. Jones is Erin’s adult stepbrother who was home alone with her at the time of her death. Also arrested were Erin’s father, Lindsey Maxwell, and her stepmother, Lynn Maxwell. They are each charged with six counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Alan Jones is being held on $100,000 cash or $250,000 surety bond. The Maxwells are each being held on $2500 cash or $5000 surety bonds. Warrants were issued Friday after indictments were handed down by a grand jury in the case.

Palermo, NY - Erin Maxwell died on August 29, 2008. She was eleven years old. This week her cause of death was ruled a homicide, but her family says that the medical examiner is wrong. They say that Erin’s death was a tragic accident caused by her roleplay of the opening scene from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.  That movie opens with a young boy singing the pirate’s shanty “Hoist The Colours” with a noose around his neck.…

UPDATE 10/01/08 – Valentino Vasquez Miranda, 19, has been charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with the disappearance and death of Jennifer Lee Hampton. Hotel key card records showed that Miranda, a Days Inn employee, used his passkey to enter Jennifer’s room, where he then sexually assaulted and strangled her. Both Miranda and Rogelio Melchor, 38, are illegal immigrants who were arrested on forgery charges earlier in the investigation. Melchor has not been charged, but is considered a person of interest in Jennifer Hampton’s murder. Authorities say more charges for both men may be forthcoming. I’ll update as more details become available.

Knoxville, TN and Florence, AL – Jennifer Lee Hampton was only in town for a business trip. On Friday night, the 21-year-old woman disappeared from the Days Inn in Farragut, Tennessee, a suburb of Knoxville. Hampton was last seen at about 9:00 p.m. Friday closing the door to Room 146.  Now police say they have evidence of foul play. As I write, Jennifer Hampton has not been found.…

Bakersfield - Some Bakersfield residents made a grisly find on August 19th, when they decided to clean out some items from a storage shed they shared with others at Derrel’s Mini Storage. First they found what looked to be a severely decomposed hand, then later, in a separate container, skeletal remains were found. These remains were taken by investigators so that they could be examined. Supervising Deputy Coroner John Van Rensselaer has now stated that the remains were of two children 11 to 13-years-old, a boy and a girl, and have probably been dead for two to four years.…
