CANTON, Ohio — The family of a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy says their daughter is afraid to leave her home because she is being bullied by her 9-year-old neighbor and his father. They even have video to prove it.
Hope Holcomb’s mother said the trouble with the boy started last year on the school bus. “She was miserable she didn’t want to ride the bus, cried every morning,” said Tricia Knight. ”He treats her like crap, and most recently the dad got involved.”
After calling police on the family because of their son destroying Halloween decorations in their yard, Hope’s grandmother decided to record any possible retaliation the following day. What she captured was the boy and his father, William Bailey, walking away from the school bus with exaggerated limps.
“It makes me sick too, to think that a grown man would tease a 10-year-old disabled girl that has never done a thing to any of them for no reason, and now she doesn’t want to get on the bus to go to school,” said Hope’s father, Mike Knight.…
Toulon, IL — A teen mother in Illinois has been accused of leaving her infant alongside a rural road where she remained for twelve hours after the mother told police her baby had been abducted.
Last Thursday, an Amber Alert was issued for 3-week-old Mia Graci Thompson. Her mother, 19-year-old Kendra Meaker, told police that she had left Mia and her 11-month old sister in the car while she walked into a Toulon post office to mail a package. She informed them that it wasn’t until she had already driven away that she noticed Mia was missing.
Sheriff Jimmie Dison said he figured Meaker’s story was bullshit from the beginning, but with no evidence to the contrary, he didn’t have any choice but to request an Amber Alert. It wasn’t until twelve hours later that Meaker finally told the truth and admitted that she drove outside Toulon that morning and placed her daughter on the side of a rural road.
After volunteer searchers were dispatched to the area, Mia was found after a pair of searchers heard her cries.…
Fort Lauderdale, FL – Deanna DeJesus, 38, has been convicted of child neglect for failing to protect her children from their father during a hostage standoff with police.
The guilty verdict carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years. An aggravated manslaughter charge, which jurors could not unanimously agree upon, carries a maximum sentence of 45 years. The prosecution may seek a retrial to attempt conviction on the more serious charge, while the defense may appeal the current conviction.
A sentencing date will be set on November 5th.
In February, Deanna’s husband, 41-year-old William DeJesus, drove Deanna and their two sons into a Deerfield RV park. He stormed a randomly chosen RV, shot the 76-year-old owner to death, and held his own family and the dead man’s girlfriend as hostages. He then called 911 and told the dispatcher he had “hijacked a woman.”
What ensued was a 7-hour standoff with a SWAT team in which DeJesus stabbed every member of his family, including himself. DeJesus and his 9-year-old son, who was autistic, died of their wounds. …
Bolivar, MS – Teresa Mayes’s statement to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) was read in court on Monday. In it, she reveals that her husband of 11 years, Adam Mayes (pictured), had plotted the kidnapping of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain as well as the murder of their remaining family for a year before acting on his plan.
She claimed that Adam Mayes was in love with 12-year-old Alexandria and that he planned to move to Mexico with the two girls, where he and Alexandria would raise Kyliyah, 8, as their daughter.
Teresa Mayes is facing two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for her involvement in the plan. Adam Mayes’s mother, Mary Frances Mayes, is being charged with especially aggravated kidnapping for hers.
Much to my surprise, this story doesn’t seem to have been covered here on DD, so I’ll attempt to bring you up to speed with a chronological retelling of the story.
At some point, Adam Mayes fell in love with the middle daughter of family friends Gary and Jo Ann Bain. …
Harlem, NY – Dr. Diana Williamson, 56, who pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and health-care fraud charges in April, has asked Judge Loretta Preska that her sentencing not include jail.
Williamson was once lauded for her work with impoverished AIDS patients, but her reputation was deeply damaged in August 2010 when she was arrested for illegally prescribing 28,000 oxycodone pills to AIDS patients who didn’t need them, and then employing drug dealers to put the pills on the street. She also defrauded Medicaid of over $300,000.
However, Williamson claims to have no recollection of those illegal activities because she says she suffers from multiple personality disorder, and that one of her dozen or so personalities, Nala, was responsible. “Nala” is described by Williamson’s attorney, Jonathan Marks, as “mischievous, irresponsible, reckless and, as we have just discovered, criminal.” It is the defense’s hope that its client’s psychiatric issues will be a mitigating factor in the sentencing phase of the trial.
“Nala, in Diana Williamson’s body, committed serious crimes,” Marks said, “The only issue is whether Diana, the host personality, was present when Nala was committing these crimes.” Personally, the most difficult thing to believe here is that Marks probably uttered these words without a hint of smirk.…
Sometime around 1 a.m. Thursday, Jeffrey Giuliano got a call from his sister, who lives next door, informing him that she thought someone was trying to break into her home.
Armed with a handgun, Giuliano walked over to investigate and encountered someone in his sister’s driveway wearing a ski mask and brandishing a knife. Giuliano shot and killed the masked suspect when they made a move towards him.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Giuliano sitting in the grass and the suspect’s dead body lying sprawled in the driveway. Police lifted up the mask and revealed the suspect to be Giuliano’s 15-year-old son, Tyler Giuliano. Early reports stated Giuliano had removed the mask and realized he had shot his son before police arrived, but those reports turned out to be incorrect.
“He didn’t know it was his son. … We made the identification.” State Police spokesman Lt. …
Lakeland, FL — Police have charged 14-year-old Cassidy Goodson with first-degree murder after she gave birth to a full-term baby boy and then proceeded to choke him to death.
Three days after deputies had been called to Lakeland Regional Medical Center on a report of Cassidy being treated for a miscarriage, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the girl’s mother after she made a gruesome discovery in her daughter’s room.
Teresa Goodson had been collecting dirty laundry when she smelled something bad coming from Cassidy’s room. Upon investigating, she found a shoebox with a dead baby inside. Homicide detectives arrived at the home and interviewed Cassidy, who showed little emotion while explaining why she a dead baby in her room rotting in a shoebox.
The ninth- grader at Kathleen High School told them that she had been hiding her pregnancy for months, and on the morning of Sept. 19, she went into labor in the bathroom. After using a pair of scissors to try and pry the baby out, she finally gave birth to a 9.5-pound, 20.4-inch baby boy.…
WILKES-BARRE, PA — In the comment section of a recent teen suicide we reported on, the subject of suicides being contagious came up. I didn’t know it at the time, but Luzerne County has lost four teenagers to suicide in the last week, all within 30 miles of each other.
If there are any inaccuracies with the following details, I apologize. I had to read about fifteen different articles and a ton of comments just to hash everything out.
On Sept. 18, 13-year-old Joshuah Delos Santos from Nanticoke shot himself. Bullying seems to be involved, although officials say they have not seen any proof of that. But over at the Joshuah Delos Santos Memorial Fund, his cousin reportedly stated otherwise. “The morning of September 18, 2012, my cousin Joshuah Allen Delos Santos decided to end his life because he was being bullied,” she said. Comments on a Facebook tribute page echoed her claims.
On Sept. 21, in Jenkins Township, 16-year-old Matthew Montagna used a hunting rifle to kill himself at his home.…
Farmington, UT – Michael Selleneit, 54, a man who allegedly shot his neighbor, 41-year-old Tony Pierce, in October 2011, has been found fit to stand trial on charges of attempted murder and illegally possessing a firearm. Selleneit claims he acted in self-defense, and seems to be leaning toward sticking with a “not guilty” plea.
Selleneit reportedly not only believes that his wife has been “telepathically raped” by Pierce on numerous occasions, but that guitarist Eddie Van Halen sometimes visits him “in his mind” to “help him out.” In addition, he is apparently under the impression that Pierce had been having sex parties with his wife since the 90’s, and that he controls her mind with crack cocaine.
However, the telepathic message that finally prompted Selleneit to put a bullet in Pierce’s back was “We’re having a sex party tonight. There will be cocaine. If you don’t come, I’ll kill you.” Let it be noted that the spelling of “come” potentially changes the meaning of this threat to a significant degree. Pierce eventually recovered from his bullet wound, but may be left with a lingering prejudice against mentally ill white trash.…
Boston, MA – Annie Dookhan, a 34-year-old chemist who has worked as a crime lab chemist for nine years, and whose work has been associated with the cases of over 34,000 defendants, is accused of falsifying results and cutting some major corners.
This is not a typical Puma write-up. There are no beheadings, no naked lunatics, no masturbatory shenanigans. It is, however, a pretty significant story, if only because of its impact on so many criminal cases.
Dookhan was known as a “superwoman” at William A. Hinton State Laboratory Institute, completing more tests than her colleagues by a ton, having a seemingly unstoppable drive to please prosecutors, police, and her bosses, and often working long hours without putting in for overtime.
Suspicions about Dookhan started swirling a full four years ago, with people wondering how she could possibly plow through 500 samples in a month while her colleagues were only able to test 50 to 150, and her supervisor complaining that he hardly ever saw her in front of a microscope. …
Los Angeles, CA – Johnny Lewis, a 28-year-old actor best known for his role as “Half Sack” in the series “Sons of Anarchy,” died falling from a wall he was apparently attempting to scale. It seems as though his fall occurred very soon after he’d beaten his 81-year-old landlady, Catherine Davis, and her cat, to death.
Initial speculation is that Davis died from blunt force trauma to the head, though only an autopsy will confirm or refute that.
Police arrived at 10:40 AM on Wednesday after receiving calls about a woman screaming and three men fighting. The exact details of the incident are a bit sketchy so early on, but it would seem as though Lewis got into an altercation with Davis, from whom he was renting a room, killed or seriously injured her, scaled a wall, got into a fight with a painter who was working at a neighboring house, went back over the wall to the Davis house, and then attempted to scale the wall again to fight the painter again, this time including the owner of that house in the fray.…
STILLWATER, OK — Yesterday, 13-year-old Cade Poulos came to Stillwater Junior High School dressed as the Batman villain Two Face, then used a handgun to kill himself in a hallway full of fellow students.
Poulos was in the crowded hallway at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. It was Super-Hero Dress Up Day at the school, and for reasons unknown, Poulos arrived dressed as a villain. It was during a prayer time before the morning bell sounded that Poulos pulled out a handgun and shot himself in the head.
Immediately after the shooting, the school was locked down, students were evacuated, and parents were asked to pick up their children via a district messaging system.
Initial reports were hinting at bullying as the reason for the teen’s decision to commit suicide, possibly because of some statements made on a Facebook memorial. But Stillwater superintendent Ann Caine said the district had no records of Poulos being bullied and his family have also stated that Poulus was not a victim of bullying.
Whatever the reason was, we may never know what caused Poulos to kill himself in front of his peers.…
WAYNESVILLE, MO – It’s been almost five years since I first reported on 9-year-old Rowan Ford. At the time, she was just a missing girl from Missouri whose stepfather was not being cooperative with police. I didn’t know it at the time, but it would take five years for the case to be resolved, and the details of what happened to that little girl would end up haunting me to this day.
Three days after I posted that article in 2007, Rowan’s battered body was located in a sinkhole where she had been dumped after having been raped and strangled to death. The day after, police would arrest Rowan’s stepfather David Spears (who had previously been on the news pleading for her safe return) and his friend Chris Collings. Police would charge them both with Rowan’s rape and murder after Collings admitted to acting alone in abducting, raping, and strangling Rowan, while Spears confessed to participating in the rape of Rowan and being the one who strangled her to death.…
Hudson, FL – John Vincent Caruso, 26, was arrested on domestic battery charges after squirting liquid soap into his girlfriend’s mouth.
He reportedly had warned her three times about her cursing, worried that it might wake their two sleeping children. He also told deputies that his parents would dole out the same punishment to him when he’d been a naughty, naughty boy.
Caruso and his on-and-off girlfriend had been arguing that night because she says Caruso was trying to tell her what to do. Apparently her word choice was not lady-like and Caruso threatened to put soap in her mouth. After all, what’s a boyfriend’s purpose if not to discipline his significant other when she’s been using filthy language?
A few minutes later, Caruso reportedly came up behind her as she was sitting on the couch and squirted liquid dish soap into her mouth, down her throat, and onto her shirt. The woman’s lip also apparently suffered a small cut from the tip of the soap dispenser according to this article.…
Woodville, WA – Anna Boyle, 28, was arrested Sunday on drug and child endangerment charges when a state trooper discovered that she had her three young children and a dog locked in the trunk of her 2007 Nissan Sentra. More charges are likely to follow if the prosecution has its way.
Boyle was reportedly driving 77 miles per hour on a section of I-405 where the limit is 60 miles per hour, and that’s what caused the trooper to execute a routine traffic stop. When he stepped up to the car, he says he found a very nervous Boyle in the driver’s seat, her mustachioed fiancé, 27-year-old Aaron Johnson, in the passenger seat, and a strong smell of marijuana.
When asked about the odor, Boyle reportedly said she “just took a few hits earlier.” That prompted the trooper to ask for permission to search the vehicle, which he did. The search apparently revealed “numerous pipes, two scales and baggies covered in heroin residue.” Now, that doesn’t sound like recreational drug use to me.…
Rockland County, NY – Eugene Palmer, 74, is accused in the shooting death of his daughter-in-law, Tammy Palmer, 39, effectively ending a protracted battle that had been going on for weeks. He disappeared soon after the shooting. Monday’s search yielded nothing of significance, but the hunt continued yesterday.
Tammy Palmer had taken out an order of protection against her husband, John, forbidding him from entering the home where she was living with their two children; a property owned by Eugene Palmer. This apparently sparked an intense dispute between Eugene and Tammy, who had been reportedly harassing each other for some time.
Last week, Eugene and Tammy had a fight in which Tammy went after Eugene with a log, threatening to strike him. Eugene also is believed to have tried to punch Tammy during the altercation.
Violet Pannirello, Tammy’s mother, says she doesn’t believe her daughter ever thought that her father-in-law would attempt to kill her.
On Monday, Eugene Palmer reportedly made another appearance at the home and shot Tammy Palmer in the chest. …
WAUKEGAN, IL — The Illinois woman accused of killing a 3-month-old baby, allegedly by violently slamming her down on a table, has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Sarah Gumm, 33, is facing life behind bars if she is convicted of the multiple murder and battery charges filed against her in connection to the death of Rylan “Turtle” Koopmeiners, the baby girl she’d been babysitting for six weeks.
On July 27, Rylan was rushed to the hospital after Gumm called 911 to report that Rylan was not breathing. She was pronounced shortly after arrival and an autopsy report would reveal that the girl had a skull fracture and cranial hemorrhaging.
Her cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma, the medical examiner noting a significant amount of force caused the fracture and that Rylan probably died within an hour of receiving the injuries.
Gumm would later admit to investigators that she had gotten angry after Rylan became fussy during a diaper change. “She admitted she put the baby down on a table such that the baby’s head hit the table,” Lake County assistant State’s Attorney Ari Fisz said.…
Killeen, TX – Patrick Meyers, 27, a military specialist stationed at Fort Hood, reportedly shot his friend in the eye while attempting to scare away his hiccups.
Meyers and his unidentified 22-year-old friend, also a soldier, were drinking and watching football on Sunday night when the younger one came down with a case of the hiccups. Now, we all probably know of at least five different supposed cures for the hiccups. The one it seems Meyers attempted to employ was the “scare” method; often an effective one in my experience.
Meyers allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim, thinking it contained dummy rounds, and pulled the trigger. It actually contained live rounds and, as we all probably know instinctively, actual bullets to the head are not only a cure for the hiccups, but also for life.
Police received a call at 10:04. When they arrived, the victim was bleeding profusely. He was taken to Skylark Field so he could be airlifted to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, but he died on the way. …
