Default The Devil's Backbone (2001)

I've been wanting to see this movie for a while now, but it was rather difficult for me to track down a copy. My husband finally found it for me at Borders, and we watched it a few nights ago.

I'm already a huge fan of Guillermo Del Toro, he really does seem to have amazing vision when it comes to his films.

I was quite pleased with this movie. It was a really different take on the usual spooky ghost story. Del Toro knows how to create a forbidding, sinister atmosphere like few others.

I've been on a bit of a Del Toro kick ever since watching Hellboy II. I went back and re-watched Pans Labyrinth... which is an amazing movie on just about every level. I'll have to upgrade to a Blu-Ray version of that film.

Up until now I've never actually heard of 'The Devil's Backbone' before... but that's why its fun to post on here, to find out about stuff I don't already know. So thanks for the info jenthgr8 the movie looks great! Here is the trailer for the film:

I love Del Toro. If you haven't already, you should see El Orfanato. That one was good too.

Damn... I'm really not up to speed with my Del Toro movies. There is another one I've not seen. Well... I know what'll be on my Christmas List this year!

This movie is very is awesome onscreen poetry.
small spoiler after this point
.

This is an example of excellent genre-weaving, with class.

and just so there is no misunderstanding, El Orfanato(aka The Orphanage) was only produced by Del Toro. That being said, it's another one of those horrifyingly bittersweet flicks.

I have to admit, The Orphanage scared the fuck out of me! My daughter and I saw it in the theatre and we spent a majority of the movie clutching each other and whimpering. It was one hell of a good scary movie.

I first saw this several years ago and it's what turned me into a Del Toro fan. It's probably my favorite movie of his, which is saying a lot. Very poetic and haunting. I love it.

Yeah, I was raving about the film when I first joined up here. You have a keen eye for tasteful and juicy things, KD. Welcome to the board! His films always make me cry. Yeah, I'm a fuckin' puss when it comes to cinema like his. Even in Cronus(Cronos), the small girl that tried so desperately to save her grandfather, but just ended up
this spoils Cronos
. Man, that was heartbreaking. He(del toro)'s one of the best, no doubt.

Devil Times Five "creepy"? I have it one of them 50 pack movies, it's hilarious man. It's like the Dream Team but with killer kids. I liked the movie, don't get me wrong, but it's not scary. I was kinda worried I might not like it at first, as the credit sequence was drawn out for a good 15 minutes. That little black kid kept me watching though, and the ending is pretty cool.

Which one? Tell us how you like D x 5.

As for The Devil's Backbone, I liked it a lot too. I must admit I prefer Cronos though, that's my fave Del Toro movie. Well, actually, Blade 2 is probably my fave by him. I have seen that one about 500 times. Don't hate.

I would never take the word of one who holds Demonic Toys Vs Dollman as one of the greatest works in cinematic history.
