This thing is still in limbo now and nobody knows what the hell they're doing with it. The Birds and Horsemen are still up next for Platinum Dunes so this one is a while away.

I'll try to keep an open mind on a remake. I don't know why they'd use anyone but Englund to play Freddy, since he's still alive and acting and stuff, but under all that makeup, I suppose it doesn't much matter. I mean, if Ledger could do that Joker voice, I suppose Thorton could do the Freddy voice.
Just so long as they stay away from the asshats that made Fv.J, and the ones that turned Freddy into a corny jester. Freddy deserves to be scary again.

You're insane!! While I'm not that big of a fan of the NOES series myself (although a few of them are quite good), FvsJ is a piece of garbage. I wish I would have never watched it again. In a theatre full of horror nuts, it was a blast, but watching it at home on DVD did nothing but shine a bright light on all of it's shortcomings. In fact, I still have never watched it a second time from beginning to end. I cut it off half-way through to try and save some of the fond memories I had of seeing it the first time.
I'd rather have the guys behind Jason X handle this film than the guys that did FvsJ...at least Jason X is a shitty movie that's entertaining

Both are shitty entertainment. Freddy has and always will be the most boring character in horror films IMO. I hate that such a cool premise went to waste. he could have been terrifying, but even in the first film I thought he was dull.

That's just it. The cookie cutters didn't have anything to let me down with. They had no expectations with them. WHen you have a character that can kill you in your dreams...there's SO MUCH you can do with that. And, what we got was NOT good enough. Sorry. Wes Craven sucks anyway. If they got someone who KNOWS movies that would have been fine. It felt like they just slapped some stuff together. Besides the Johnny Depp scene I wasn't impressed with anything. At all. :(

I am a Nightmare fan too. ;) I prefer him in the first film and only that film, to be honest...he wasn't really a comedian then. Just some guy who kills you in dreams. Mind you, the deaths were not creative enough in my opinion.

Now that the horror genre is the highest-grossing genre of movies, these companies can fund some pretty amazing stuff.
I, too, prefer the original Freddy. I honestly didn't mind the Freddy in the New Nightmare, either. I wasn't thrilled with the movie, but I liked them getting back to the original Freddy. I'd like a Freddy who had some personality, but didn't rely on cheap jokes.

Remake hating is one thing, only because a lot of them are terrible. I dislike remakes too. The Ring is an exception...and I think NOES could go in a similar direction. The film would need this to be successful in my opinion:
a) A somewhat unknown cast.
b) A decent and credited director - not Wes Craven.
c) It would have to focus on tension, atmosphere. The rising action truly needs to be "what goes bump in the night".
d) Have no comedy whatsoever in the script, especially Freddy. The previous films didn't take themselves seriously enough given subject matter (pedophilia).
e) A great score.
f) An awesome script with creative, but not over-the-top deaths.
Adding a little bit of an origin story and dead teenagers won't make a decent film.
