BENNINGTON — Two Bennington Rural Fire Department members, including an assistant chief, charged with sex crimes against a junior member of the fire department, will be arraigned in Bennington District Court today, according to police. Lewd and lascivious charges
Bennington Police Detective Lawrence Cole said First Assistant Chief Shawn LaFountain will be arraigned on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and sexual assault.
Cole said another fireman, who he declined to identify, will also be arraigned on three counts of sexual assault against the same victim.
Police say LaFountain has resigned from his position with the fire department.
The position pays a yearly stipend, and an additional stipend for vehicle use and mileage, both funded by taxpayers in the rural fire district.
Charles Hollis, another fireman with the department, was arraigned last year on charges of sexual assault, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and lewd and lascivious conduct.
