"Mark Beverly was one of two employees inside a Roseville Super America when a robber came into the store on March 26.

Beverly was cleaning the bathroom when he heard the store clerk cry out. He came out to find a robber attacking the female employee.

"I just jumped on his back and trying to hit his head and pushed him over the counter. I jumped back over and he was out of there," he said.

Later that day, Beverly returned to work only to be punished for his actions."


So, according to company policy, he is supposed to stand by and let that woman get beat up? I will never buy gas at SA again. Assholes.

Speedway SuperAmerica's main rivals include BP, Circle K, Kwik Trip, Casey's General Stores, Kum & Go, and surviving Stuckey's locations. Sheetz may also become a main rival to the company in the near future, as the two are already directly competing in West Virginia and eastern Ohio as Sheetz continues to expand.

(Exxon and Chevron are also listed at main competition, for those not in the MidWest.)

I would have contacted SuperAmerica directly, but it seems the company does not list an e-mail contact on their website.

The application of SuperAmerica's robbery policy and subsequent firing of Mark Beverly is terrible protocol. As a result, I am forwarding this news story to everyone I know and imploring them to fill up with Exxon, Chevron or BP. Should SuperAmerica not reverse its decision, I do hope that the market punishes them, and Marathon Petroleum, accordingly.

It sounds like their policy only ensures the safety of SOME employees. Had this man just been robbing the store, I'd understand their stance. But he was attacking another individual. Shameful.

The security tape did not show the female co-worker struggling with the robber over the cash-register drawer, Casey said.

"The female employee was never attacked," she said. The robber reached in and grabbed cash out of the drawer.

"We have a statement from both [Beverly] and the female employee," Casey said. "Neither one of them say anything about her being attacked, hurt or anything, and the video we have substantiates it."

Beverly said that from his vantage point, he thought she was being attacked.

"With both of them so close it looked — from the angle that I was at — it looked like she was being attacked," he said.

Either way, the punishment does NOT fit the crime. If SuperAmerica wanted to get into a shitty-snit about it, they should have given him a reprimand of some sort... but to fire a guy for doing what he felt morally responsible to do at the time is asinine.
