A Pasco mom accused of hitting her 2-year-old son because he got into her makeup is being held in the Franklin County jail on $25,000 bail.
Karen DelRosario Zepeda, 19, was in Superior Court on Monday, where Judge Robert Swisher found there was probable cause to hold her on investigation of third-degree assault and felony harassment.
Prosecutors have until Wednesday to charge her.
Zepeda was arrested on Friday after Pasco police were called to Lourdes Medical Center, where the toddler was taken for treatment by his grandmother, Jacqueline Gonzalez.
Gonzalez told officers that her mother, Ester Hernandez, told her Zepeda had beaten up the 2-year-old.
The boy was found with several bumps on his head and his face was bruised and scraped, court documents said.
Hernandez said she heard the boy scream and cry and when she went to investigate, Zepeda told her she'd hit him because he got into her makeup and broke some items, documents said.
Zepeda reportedly also threatened to kill both her children.
The investigating officer said he saw a large bruise above the toddler's eye, and three small bruises on his left cheek.
"It also appeared that someone had taken their right hand and squeezed (the boy's) face," the documents said. "It is also possible that someone had put their hand over his mouth."
Zepeda ran from officers when they arrived at her house at 821 S. 12th Ave.
After she was arrested, she told officers she pushed her son to the floor two times and that his head may have hit the concrete, documents said.
