James Schuetze, drunk driver, killed girl and drove away
LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Nez Perce County Prosecutor's Office and Lewiston Police Department have filed a murder charge against a man who allegedly hit and killed an 8-year-old girl and then left the scene.
Police say James W. Schuetze, 45, was drunk when he hit the girl and another pedestrian.
Police arrested James W. Schuetze, 45, after finding his car in Clarkston after he reportedly left the scene in Lewiston.
Clarkston police booked him into custody for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.
Sydney W. Byrd, 8, was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where she died of extensive head injuries. Gregory D. Engel, 54, was taken to the same hospital and treated for injuries.
