Stanley Carter: the burglar who lived in the attic
Quote:
It was a burglary investigation right out of a horror movie. A man is accused of stealing from a woman's home and police believe he had been living in the attic of the home for days.
A family in Plains Township, near Wilkes-Barre, discovered their home had been burglarized not once, but twice on Christmas Day.
It was a mystery until Friday afternoon, when police found 21-year-old Stanley Carter of Arkansas living in the crawl space of the home.
The homeowners had no idea he was there stealing food, household items and even their kids' Christmas presents.
Investigators said Carter was found living in the attic of the double-block home for more than a week.
The homeowners knew something was wrong when Christmas gifts started disappearing.
"My daughters brand new ipod nano. That was missing. Cash was missing from Christmas cards. Then the second time around, the charger was missing for the ipod and my laptop computer," said homeowner Stacy Ferrance.
Ferrance said the day after Christmas, she found footprints in her closet and called police again.
"It was when the police were here when we actually heard somebody walking around upstairs in the attic. And then the backup came in and the canine unit came in. They found him in my attic, living here since December 19th he's been staying here," said Ferrance.
In the attic crawl space, police found Carter had set up a make-shift bed and had helped himself to things from the family's home.
"He had taken my toothbrush, some regular Tylenol, Tums, food, bottles of soda, my little 5-year-old's juice boxes," Ferrance said.
Officials said Carter kept a detailed list of everything he took.
"When we were going through the inventory of what he did take, we found a note labeled 'Stanley's Christmas List' of all the items he had removed from the residence and donated to himself," said Officer Michael Smith with the Plains Township police.
The homeowner believes Carter had been staying with people next door, and after being kicked out, hid up in the crawl space, stealing things from both homes.
Stanley Carter is charged with several counts of burglary and theft.
Man Arrested After Days Spent Unnoticed in Family's Attic
Quote:
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A family did not realize they had an unexpected Christmas guest until a man who had been in their attic for days emerged wearing their clothes, police said.
Stanley Carter surrendered Friday after police took a dog to search the home in Plains Township, a suburb of Wilkes-Barre about 100 miles north of Philadelphia. He was charged with several counts of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass.
"When he came down from the attic, he was wearing my daughter's pants and my sweat shirt and sneakers," homeowner Stacy Ferrance said. "From what I gather, he was helping himself to my home, eating my food and stealing my clothes."
Police said the 21-year-old Carter had been staying with his friends, who are Ferrance's neighbors in a duplex. But when they told him to leave, he apparently accessed the shared attic through a trap door in a bedroom ceiling.
The friends said Carter went missing on Dec. 19 and they filed a missing person report a few days before Christmas.
Ferrance said she had heard noises but thought they were caused by her three children. She notified police on Christmas Day when cash, a laptop computer and an iPod disappeared, then called police again the next day when she found footprints in her bedroom closet, where the attic trap door is located.
This is too creepy and then seeing the man wearing your daughters clothes ewwww!

If they told him to leave why would they file a missing persons report on him?

This is the shit from my nightmares. Attic entrances in my home must have a lock placed on them. I'm not even kidding.
LoL, Scardy Cat, Hell I am more worried about basement people than the attic people. Basement people are much worse and uglyer as well, beedy mole eyes and what nots. When I was a kid we would wake up with beach rats the size of a cat sitting on the bed looking at you. We had to get a BIG dog cause all the cats were scared of them. That movie "Ben" scared the crap out of me.

But, attic people can watch you through little holes in the ceiling....
LoL, Yah I was thinking about that, I bet this turd had little holes in the ceiling and watched them as they went about there daily lifes. Including in the bathroom and bedrooms. Just a guess mind you but what the hell else does he have to do all day up in the attic.
Looks like Stanely may have had a fetish or two. And liked to dress up in girl clothes. Sure hope he washed mom and the daughters panties after he was done wearing them. Thats a whole lot worse than a guy just living in an attic is one thats also wearing your clothes when your not there. Mom and Dad must be so proud of him.

Just so damn creepy. He has the whole serial killer look to him and dressing in girls clothing down, makes it all more creepier. Don't want to know what he is ultimately capable of...a nightmare for sure.

Exactly Silva! It just creeps me out to think what he may have been planning. What if the kids had been left alone for a bit?
He was wearing the daughters clothes! Was he planning on assulting her? People will never look at their attics the same way again.........

Mr Attic dweller, Stanley Wayne Carter pleaded guilty yesterday. When asked if he had anything to say to homeowner Stacy Ferrance and her family, Carter said, “I’m sorry.”
An Arkansas man who lived in the attic of a Plains Township home for a week and stole Christmas presents and food was sentenced to nine to 23 months in county jail.
“There’s not one day I don’t think about what happened,” said Stanley Wayne Carter, 21, before Luzerne County Judge Hugh Mundy sentence him. “I’m sorry for what I did.”
[...]
Ferrance said after hearing Carter’s sentence that she is glad she and her three small children can now go on with their lives, but they still suffer from fear and sleepless nights.
“I don’t feel he was sincere in his apology,” Ferrance said, “and he never apologized to me. He has no idea how tough this has been on us.”
Bobbi Jo Gromer, who had lived in the other half of the double-block home Ferrance occupies, said Tuesday that she feels Carter should have been given more time behind bars. Gromer has since moved.
“My nephew brought him here to find a job and get him on his feet,” Gromer said, explaining that, as time passed, Carter would only sleep and didn’t work.
Gromer said she told Carter around Dec. 19 to either get a job or go back to his hometown in Arkansas. When Carter left, Gromer assumed he either went home or committed suicide. ????
“I never thought he was in the attic,” said Gromer, adding she had police looking for him and was afraid he had done harm to himself. “I thought he left.”
Carter’s attorney, public defender Basil Russin, ... said a Hazleton man who testified on Carter’s behalf said that when Carter is released from jail, he will reside with the Hazleton man and become employed at his towing business in the Hazleton area.
“He heard about it on TV or read about it, and decided to help,” Russin said.
[...]
Carter received 194 days credit for time already served.
He also was sentenced to one-year probation and to pay $1,640 in restitution costs.
Mundy ordered him to stay away from the Ferrance family and undergo mental-health and drug and alcohol evaluations.

LOL! I was just thinking "this couldn't happen to me because my dogs would alert me to their presence and handle them if they ever came down." They all have the run of the house finally!
