A Warren County police lieutenant posing online as a teenage boy has allegedly caught the same sexual predator that he snagged almost a year ago on the Internet.
"I caught the same fish twice with the same bait and in the same pond," Hamilton Township Police Lt. Jeff Braley said Wednesday with a laugh.
Only minutes before police say the registered sex offender, Christopher Sefakis, 41, was recorded online seeking sex with a boy, he had been at the Warren County Sheriff's Office completing his mandatory registration as a sex offender with local authorities.
Sefakis was previously arrested Dec. 27, 2007 when he solicited sex online from Braley.
Braley was working undercover at the time and posing online as a 15-year-old boy.
Sefakis was convicted and sentenced to five days in jail, three years' probation and ordered to register annually with local police as a sex offender.
Sefakis completed mandatory registration Tuesday about 12:30 p.m.
Sefakis then drove to a family member's home in Ludlow and by 1:05 p.m. was back online looking to have sex with boys, Braley said.
Braley, again posing as a 15-year-old boy online but this time under a different name, was soon allegedly contacted by Sefakis.
"It was exactly the same situation," Braley said.
Braley arrested Sefakis about an hour later when the suspect returned to his home.
The unemployed man, who is single, had no previous criminal record before his 2007 arrest and conviction.
"I even arrested him as he pulled into the exact same parking space in South Lebanon as he did last year. It's hard to believe," he said.
