Default Police Drug Dog Hit By Car

Quote:

BEND, Ore. -- An Oregon State Police drug dog is recovering after it was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 97 south of Bend.

The 2-year-old yellow Labrador, named Lola, was on patrol with her handler, Senior Trooper Jason Hansen, when they pulled onto a U.S. Forest Service road just off Highway 97 for a break.

The dog started running into the woods and Hansen lost sight of her. He requested help after searching for about 20 minutes, and learned the Deschutes County sheriff's office was responding to a report of a dog struck on Highway 97.

The driver of the car stayed with the dog until help arrived. She was being treated at a veterinary clinic for a collapsed lung, internal injuries and bruising.

I commend this driver, wish there were more like them. I hope the dogs pulls through.

Sounds like the dog needs a little bit more obedience training after healing.

i agree! once labs are well-trained & past the "teenage" period, they are great, but sometimes the younger ones lack focus. gsds that are chosen for police work are usually chosen because they have the focus from a very young age. i'm a total amateur, but i call spot a police candidate from the first minute i see them. i hope for the best for Lola & kudos to the person who stayed with her.

KUDOS to the driver for hanging around after hitting the dog. It's amazing how one person can have the decency to stick around for a dog and others will leave a human in the road and speed off. You can tell who the better person is...anyone who will stick around to help an animal is a wonderful, caring human being.

I have a yellow male lab who was kicked out of drug sniffing school because he didn't hit on one drug. He looks like a male version of this female.
