DOCTORS are caring for a two-headed baby dumped in an irrigation ditch by his mother.
Police in Hanzhuang, central China, found the hours-old infant after reports of a baby crying in the middle of the night - as reported in the Austrian Times.
Doctors say the abandoned tot has one fully formed head and another smaller head with only partially formed features.
The second head includes eyes, a nose, mouth and ears but has no body.
Carer Yuan Xianrong - in charge of the baby's well-being until his mum is found - said: "He is completely healthy except for his two heads. It's too early to talk about surgery yet.
"But it is amazing that he survived after being dumped in the ditch. It was filled with rubbish and mud and old water.
"When officers picked him up they at first did not realise he had the defamation and thought it was just rubbish stuck to the child - then they realised that the baby had the deformation and took him straight to the hospital."
Local officials are still searching for the mother.

I'm wondering if they plan on attempting removal of the second head, it was implied that way with surgery not being an option at this time. Can they really remove it? is there question on separate identities? I'm curious as I really do not know.
Glad baby boy was found alive, I hope he'll be well too.

This so sad. Unfortunately in places like China often times you must pay cash for all medical services. If a mother is too poor she may have opted to get rid of the infant rather than struggle to pay for its care. I am not saying that is an excuse, hell no it is not, don't have babies unless you can afford to take care of them. I hope the medical community is able to help this little one. (I wondere what the punishment is for something like this in China?

I believe the 2nd head is the remnants of a twin. The brains being connected makes the surgery that more difficult and will have to be put off until he's older.

i watched a program about 2 i think middle eastern boys whos heads were fused and they said it was a very risky very long dangerous surgery. they literally had to create something that would grow into a skull for the boys leaving the brain exposed until this piece would grow back..it was fascinating. ill have to see if i can find the story online.
So is the second head alive? Do the eyes blink and such? Or is the second head just dead tissue from a twin? If the second head is alive, should it be removed, or is it considered a second person? I'm really creeped out and yet very curious about this case.
