Last Monday, Margery Tannenbaum was charged with aggravated harassment for allegedly posting a classified ad on Craigslist offering sex with men. When interested parties replied to Tannenbaum via e-mail, she allegedly gave out the phone number for one of her daughter's 9-year-old classmates, prompting harassing telephone calls to the girl's home. Police say it appears she did this as payback for a fight between her daughter and the child.

Tannenbaum is a licensed psychotherapist and social worker who now faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

Suffolk police have arrested a Hauppauge woman they say harassed her neighbor and possibly the neighbor's 9-year-old daughter by posting a sexually suggestive ad on Craigslist and directing nearly two dozen calls from men seeking sex to the neighbor's home phone number.
Margery Tannenbaum, 40, was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated harassment in a plot to get revenge for a dispute between her daughter, also 9, and her neighbor's daughter, Fourth Precinct Sgt. Tim Burns said.
"There was an underlying dispute between their two daughters," said Burns, who did not know more about the dispute. "Men were responding to that Craigslist ad, and when they did, it had an e-mail address to respond to - I assume just for this purpose - and they were given the phone number of this residence."
Police said the ad was posted in the "casual encounters" section of the popular free ad site Feb. 10 or 11. The ad read in part: "Looking for a good time?-w4m 21," using shorthand for a woman seeking a man and age.
Burns said the victim got 22 phone calls. The ad has expired or been removed.
Tannenbaum was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in July. Her attorney, Tad M. Scharfenberg of Bohemia, said the incident has been blown out of proportion.
"My view on this is it's gone way too far," he said. "She's a good woman. She's a good wife. She's really a good person. I just can't see why anyone would want to put this in the news media . . . if the interest is about the children, which it should be. We're looking forward to our day in court."
Wow, how old are we? Jesus, this woman needs to go back to highschool apparently. And to be a social worker she really couldn't be all that stupid. Losing her job would be the best bet.

No "good woman" would dream of doing such a thing. And even if she was not, as a licensed psychotherapist and a social worker she should know professionally that one cannot do something like that.
The mind boggles.

Of course he's saying nice things about her...she's paying him to.
Anyone who would do this to a 9-year old child because of a disagreement with another child is neither nice nor good. She needs to lose her job and her license to practice.

It looks to me they are claiming that she aimed it at the kids mom. The "disagreement" started over the kids but obviously escalated to include the adults. Either way, it is stupid.
I don't know where the media got the "psychotherapist" thing, other than that blog it, is not mentioned. She has no license for it. She does hold a license as a social worker in NY but I can't find any trace of where she might be working.
Not that it matters... I was just curious what she actually does since "social workers" do so many different things. I doubt she will be doing it much longer after this.

It was a "horrific" plot. A Long Island woman allegedly tried to get revenge on a 9-year-old girl who ar gued with her daughter by giving a throng of sex- seeking men the child's home phone number through a Craigslist ad.
Margery Tannenbaum, 40, alreadly accused of harassment in the sick scheme, was slapped with even more serious charges at her arraign ment yesterday -- and the young victim's mother spoke out for the first time.
"You don't do this to a child!" the woman said at her Hauppauge home. "What she did was horrific, and hopefully the courts will take care of it." Tannenbaum, also of Hauppauge, allegedly launched the sick plot in February, after the victim -- whose name is being withheld by The Post -- had an argument with her daughter. The two girls are in the same elementary-school class.
Tannenbaum put the ad -- which read, "Looking for a good time? W4M 21" -- on Craigslist in a section known for escort-service ads, authorities said. It directed them to an e-mail address, "lacethong23@yahoo.com."
That address was allegedly controlled by Tannenbaum. She then gave the would-be escort patrons the girl's home phone number, authorities allege.
Soon the phone was ringing off the hook with men looking for "dates." Her mom said she fielded at least 50 calls in two days before she changed her number. She said she was shocked when she got the first call.
"She usually answers the phone, but I happened to be closer that time," she told The Post. She said the caller started talking about her daughter's supposed physical attributes. According to court documents, the first caller also said, "Hey, baby, is this . . .," using the girl's first name
When the mom answered, "This is her mother," the caller responded, "Oh, hot lady lives with foxy momma." "I told him the hot lady you are referring to is 9 years old. He hung up," she said, according to the documents. "It hard for a young girl to understand," she said. "It's hard for me to understand."
At yesterday's hearing, Tannenbaum was arraigned on charges of aggravated harassment and new charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Tannenbaum is a social worker who lives with her businessman husband, Glenn, and their daughter.
Suffolk DA Tom Spota said his office will ask the state to review her social-work license and make her "undergo therapy." As she left court, free on $500 bail, she faced the anger of the public.

what is wrong with this woman? really? why would you do this to a little girl? makes me wonder how her daughter is gonna' act about 15 years from now...
I think the nine year old girl will be quite fine. I don't think this was a horrific, tragic and traumatizing event. At most it was disturbing and at best it's a good drunken story to tell when she is in her twenties.
It's getting to the point where everything is horrific.
I used to think that word applied to shattered limbs and wars and murder and extreme child abuse, now it applies to a stubbed toe.
My bowel movement was HORRIFIC.
