Default Computers Flash Young Girls for a Change

Anonymous, the same group of hackers behind the recent assault on Scientology have taken their "griefing" too far this time. In the process, they may be the first hackers to use computers to physically harm other human beings.

Their target was the website of the Epilepsy Foundation. Using Javacode exploits, they inserted flashing images into innocent-looking threads, which would induce seizures and headaches in the unfortunate epileptics that visited the threads. One of those epileptics was RyAnne Fultz, pictured above.

"I locked up.", RyAnne said in an interview with Wired, "I don't fall over and convulse, but it hurts. I was on the phone when it happened, and I couldn't move and couldn't speak."

Several other members reported similar bouts. The hack was only in effect for 10 hours, and it is unknown how many people were effected. Fortunately, epileptic seizures are not normally triggered by flashing lights. Only 3% of epileptics are sensitive to the effect.

Angry

I've had grand-mal seizures since a bad accident I was in, in 1983. I had one that was triggered by the strobe lights in a haunted house, so I imagine whatever they were doing on those pages would also work on me. I hope they catch who put it there, piece of shits.

I think the people who did it stand almost no chance of even being looked for.

I don't think people understand how awful having a seizure can be. I know I didn't.

At the age of 33 I had a grand-mal seizure caused by a ruptured AVM in my brain. It was removed. The removal left me with simple partial seizures ( I only feel sick for a few minutes when they hit, I am very lucky). Thanks to finding the proper medication, I have not had a seizure for five years.

For an epileptic, finding the right medications is mostly trial and error and it can take years of suffering at the hands of this frightening condition. Because my AVM was large and I have had such a good outcome, the doctors are very interested in me. Once a year they hook me up to all these wires and flash lights in my face. Different frequencies, with my eyes open or shut. They have me hyperventilate for part of the test and sleep for another part. They are always amazed that they cannot induce a seizure in me ( that I or anyone else can notice ) even though the EEG indicates seizure activity. They say my seizure threshold is very high. Every year I get to hear the word "miracle" used when talking about me. They know so much and yet so little about the brain. I am always happy to help them in their research.

I am writing this because I am on the inside looking out. I know first hand how nasty it feels to have a seizure and how scary it is not knowing when the next one is going to hit. I also remember my life before this condition and I can assure you that until you experience a seizure for yourself, you cannot imagine in your wildest dreams how horrible they are.

It is not uncommon for TV and movies to make fun of epilepsy. Keep your eyes and ears open for this and you will start to notice. I am not surprised that some asshole out there thought it would be funny to pull this prank. If it were up to me, I would hit this piece of shit in the head with a tack hammer until he/she got to experience the joy that is a seizure. I'd also like to do the same to the writers/producers/actors in these movies and TV shows that seem to think epilepsy is proper fodder for their jokes.

I cannot say enough good things about The Epilepsy Foundation and the support they offer to people like me. If you are looking for a charity to donate to, please keep them in mind.

Did you know that if an epileptic has a seizure they have to give up their driver's license for a set amount of time during which they must be seizure free? In New Jersey you must be seizure free for a year and report your seizure status regularly ( the form must be filled out by you and your Neurologist ). Most states are six months.
So this was a real dick move! I wonder if any children will go hungry because the family bread winner lost their job because he/she cannot drive because of this.

I take a cocktail of depecote and dialantin and will for the rest of my life. I'm sorry, but I see NOTHING funny about it at all.
