Some horse's ass has been stealing horses' tails

Another case of illegal "horse-tail chopping" or trimming or snipping has been reported in northwest Iowa.

Whatever you call it, the bizarre crime involves sneaking into somebody else's barn or pasture and cutting off a few feet of the animal's tail.

It happened to horses in Buena Vista, Sioux, Sac and Dickinson counties earlier this year and in the Storm Lake area again not long ago.

Authorities speculate the thief sells the hair for use on Western-style gear and to extend the tails of show horses.

A bunch of "horse-tail extensions" are listed on eBay, and it shows the northwest Iowa tail thief isn't going to get rich. Beer money, maybe, but he won't be selling these things to pay next semester's tuition at rocket-science college.

The tails - which the eBay sellers vow are "100 percent real and absolutely legal" - meaning they weren't snipped and stolen in the middle of the night - go for around $35 to $100.

Aside from this being a horrible thing to do, (poor horses) who the hell would buy them, Dog The Bounty Hunter? Somehow I picture mullet man adding them as extensions to his already mangled mane.

Several years ago the Princess showed horses. Her gelding's tail often needed a little help. The artificial tails we used had an elastic band like a pony tail holder (oh what a pun, unintentional though) that slipped over the tail right up next to the butt.

Made his tail look much fuller and prettier.

It's true.. horse show people are nutso.. my tattoo artist was once hired to tattoo eyeliner on a white horse to make his eyes stand out more.. WTF? I can totally see some cornhole creeping around scalping horses..

I agree, horse show people are nuts, but they don't hold a candle to dog show people.

there is also a market for horsetail braids for jewelry for people. they actually look really nice. my vet had a bracelet made for me out of some from my horse, my farm manager was there & yes, he had permission. he made it for me for xmas but i can't wear it. i break out bigtime because i'm allergic to animals!
