Meghan Runkle was found face down and naked in a ditch

A week after a female's body was found in a ditch in Jennings State Forest, police identified the victim as 17-year-old Meghan Elizabeth Runkle.

Two cousins scouting hunting spots on state land Nov. 5 found the body in the northern end of forest that covers northern Clay County and a small portion of Duval County near Cecil Commerce Center.

The hunters said the body was found naked near a bike path at least two miles south of Normandy Boulevard.

"We come up on the buzzards flying in the air and that's when we came across the body, laying face down in about 4 inches of water in a ditch," said one of the men, who asked to only be identified as Andy.

Andy and his cousin originally called the Clay County Sheriff's Office, but the case was turned over to Jacksonville investigators when it was determined the body was in Duval County.

Police said they believe foul play was involved in the death, but they have released no other information about the case.

This is sad. She would've turned 18 yesterday, and she was living with "friends," far away from her family in New York. Her stepmother said she wanted to come home and start over. "She wanted to get back in contact with her family. She wanted to get a car, she wanted to get a job and put herself through school."

She has a couple of other MySpaces, it seems (look at her friends on the one Nell linked). However, if you go through all of her friends, not a one has the heading "RIP Meghan Runkle."

Yah, it looked like she went through a real dark time in her life about something, started doing the "cutter" thing. But she made some big breakthrough and was heading down a good road. Even helping others, like she used to be. Its pretty damn sad. I accually liked her poetry.

She didn't know it but she spoke then and now still speaks for all those who have ever felt that way.

My daughter got on here today and typed her first name into the search bar. She found this post and brought it to my attention.

This is just a sad yet strange case. Her brother died within days of his birthday. He was loved and cared for, and from what I read on the FP, he loved Meghan too. She didn't know he died.
Then Meghan was murdered (I don't care if they say her death is undetermined, she was found naked in a ditch) soon before she turned 18. She seemed starved for love from her family.
I don't think LE has really done a thorough investigation. They have not named any persons of interest. (I haven't found anything on this since 2008) They pretty much found her, did an autopsy, and forgot.
She was a lost soul who was taken from this world too soon. May she rest in peace.
