Man Get 6 Years for texting a 12 Year Old

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A Gresham man has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for attempted rape after a mother discovered his inappropriate text messages on her 12-year-old daughter's cell phone.

Prosecutors said 29-year-old Patrick Lee Kenney also pleaded no contest to attempted sexual abuse and furnishing obscene material to a minor.

Kenney met the girl on the MySpace site.

The girl's mother accidentally saw the text messages and gave the phone to Klamath County sheriff's deputies, who continued the text chat with Kenney.

Detectives say they arrested Kenney at a park while he was trying to meet the victim.

Prosecutor David Groff said the case is a reminder about the dangers children face from Internet predators.

I'm glad the mother "accidentally" saw the text messages. Good for mom!

I don't know yet, need more info. What where the surrounding details? Did he actually think that he was communicating with someone of age? Did she lie about her age? Did he see any pictures of her - indicating how young she was? Or is he just some sick fuck?

Thats why parents shouldnt let kids on myspace. If you do keep an eye on them. Good for mom for finding the text message.

Every kid should have an internet predator talk right along with the "don't talk to strangers" talk.

I think it was a total accident that Mom saw the text message. After all, she lets her kid be unsupervised on MySpace enough that the kid met this dude. Kid interacts with him enough to give out her cell number to him. Then she also starts to carry on text conversations. This is a 12 year old.

At least Mom took the time to go to the cops.

I know it is 4 years later, but here is what happened a little more clearly.

… By a 25-year-old man by the name of Patrick Lee Kenney. Fortunately, the young girl’s mother was monitoring her MySpace activity and discovered graphic pictures of Patrick on her daughter’s computer. She then got police to pose as her daughter and arranged a meeting. Patrick Kenney showed up and was arrested on encouraging child sex abuse and attempted rape charges.

This story fortunately has a happy ending because mom was keeping an eye on what her daughter was doing on MySpace. All the legislation in the world can’t replace good old fashioned parenting.
