    Toddler dies on junglegym

Fresno, CA, USA (KFSN) -- A Fresno family is dealing with a horrible tragedy after their young son was killed playing on a jungle gym.

Officers say the boy was about to slide down the slide when the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing got caught on the jungle gym.

The accident happened at a home on Butler near Peach, just a few blocks from Fresno Pacific University.

Police say the child was found unconscious. Emergency crews tried to revive him for about half an hour before he passed away around 6pm Tuesday.

Officers were called out to the home around 5:20 in the evening. Police say the child was unconscious on a wooden jungle gym where he had been playing.

Mike Doyle of the Fresno Police Department said, "One of the kids is a three year old boy that went down the slide and he was wearing a sweatshirt and one of the cords on the sweatshirt accidentally caught on the slide we don't know approximately where but it caught and ended up accidentally choking the young child."

The toddler was discovered by another child who noticed the boy non responsive. Police believe the child was playing with other kids minutes before the tragedy, but they had gone in the house before the accident. Investigators describe the jungle gym as wooden with a canopy and slide. Officers inspected it and say it is in good condition.

The child has not been identified. Officers say he was visiting the home where the accident took place. Police are investigating the death as an accident.

Now this is a tragedy. But there saying it's a toddler where were the parents, this makes no sense.

Sounds like a backyard set up.

Warnings about cords on shirts have been around since my kids were young. I always took them out. I'm surprised that they still use them and parents haven't heard the warnings.

Jakob is almost three and I am still all over him at the playground. He has no fear when it comes to just about anything. Since we have a pool, we no longer have our set up in the backyard, so we take him to our local park.

We were actually there yesterday and some woman was there with 4 kids that she was babysitting, ages 18 months to 6 years old. She let the kids just run around and she sat in the corner just sipping coffee and reading. About 10 minutes later she started screaming because she couldn't find the little girl. Thankfully she was playing with some other little girls in the sandbox, but the park was PACKED with a lot of big kids and weirdos. I don't know how parents can be so trusting with their kids in these types of situations.

I see accidents all the time there. One girl jumped from the swing and the sleeve of her shirt got caught on the metal somehow and she was in a lot of pain, couldn't move her arm. She went to the hospital. My aunt's daughter at the age of 4 fell off of a swing and needed 4 stitches on her chin.

People just really need to be aware of some of the dangers at playgrounds and realize that at home jungle gyms can still pose the same threat.

Clothing with cords now have a hanging warning on the tag that is sewn onto the garment.
When I was at BJ's Wholesale there was a re-call notice for a child's hoodie because the tags didn't have that warning.

My daughters never had cords in anything they wore.
I pulled them out immediately and they went into the "junk" drawer.

My mom did that too Gil.. and I'd still get those damn cords and tie up my brother..

Honestly though, I do pull all the cords out of mine & my family's hoods.

And I'm very curious to know where the supervision was..

    yeah a true tragedy.
Unfortunately, no amount of regulation will take place of common sense.
Should the parents be charged? No Should they feel guilty? Yes

There's a wooden jungle gym with a slide in my neighbor's backyard. His three daughters played on it without any supervision. Dad was out and Mom was in the house working on a computer at home. One day their dog frightened their smallest daughter and she went apeshit screaming. Guess who went out and picked her up and carried her to her Mom? Me.

Parents think,"It's in the backyard, so it's safe."

The woman in the park who was reading and drinking coffee was thinking, "Thank GOD I can have five minutes to myself."

    Neither is true.
