The 9-year-old girl was playing at Roosevelt Gardens Park, in the 2900 block of Northwest 11th Street near Fort Lauderdale, when Yvon Previl approached her, BSO said.
Here is what happened next, according to BSO.
Previl, 46, of Fort Lauderdale, pushed the girl off the swing and dragged her by the wrists toward the park's exit.
The girl, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, screamed for help, hoping her three cousins, who were also playing in the park, would hear.
Fortunately, they did.
The cousins -- boys aged 12, 13 and 14 -- ran toward her and screamed to a nearby mail carrier for help.
As the boys fought off Previl, punching him in the face, the mail carrier called 911.
Previl ran. The boys followed.
Deputies arrived at the scene and arrested Previl, who is charged with confining a child under 13 without consent of a parent. He remains in a Broward jail without bond.
BSO is concerned that Tuesday wasn't the first time Previl has tried to abduct a child. If you know of a child who has experienced a similar encounter with Previl, call BSO Detective Julianne Bower at 954-321-4240 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.
