A 1-year-old boy died in a drive-by shooting in St. Louis after his injured dad tried to save him by taking him to a nearby police station
Authorities are now searching for a vehicle in connection with the crime.
The toddler, Rashaad Bobbitt, was riding in the car with his dad Tuesday night when a gunman sprayed the vehicle with a shower of bullets as it drove through an intersection, MyFOXStL.com reported.
The father was also wounded in the attack but managed to drive his young son to the Pagedale, Mo., police department.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Pagedale Police Chief G. Thomas Walker said the father ran for help when he arrived, leaving both doors open. The windshield was shattered and the driver's door was riddled with bullet holes, according to MyFOXStL.com.
Police found at least 13 shell casings at the intersection where the shooting occurred. They were looking for a possibly newer model gray or silver Chevrolet Impala or Malibu with dark, tinted windows.
Walker, who was investigating the crime scene when the distraught dad came to police for help, said he returned to find mayhem at the station.
"There was an ambulance, fire trucks and paramedics," he told MyFOXStL.com. "It was a chaotic scene."
Police don't yet know who fired the shots, but an investigation is under way.
