Michael Patriquin cracked the baby's skull

PAWTUCKET -- The father of a baby girl has been charged with first-degree child abuse after the infant was hospitalized with serious head trauma, including a skull fracture and facial injuries, the police said this afternoon.

Michael Patriquin, 23, of Malvern Street, Pawtucket, was arraigned in District Court today and ordered held on $100,000 bail, the police said in a statement.

Police were called to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence on Saturday for a report of possible child abuse that happened in Pawtucket.

The infant, born Oct. 7 and now 20 days old, is in serious, but stable condition at the hospital and released from the Intensive Care unit today, according to the police.

The police said that, at this time, she is expected to recover from the injuries but testing continues at the hospital.

Patriquin lives on Malvern Street with his girlfriend, who is the child's mother, the child and a 2-year-old daughter.

Investigators from the state Department of Children, Youth and Families have taken custody of the 2-year-old.

Mom has been arrested as well....
In their continued investigation of the circumstances surrounding the abuse of a baby girl that allegedly occurred on Saturday at the hands of her father, Pawtucket Police have now also arrested the infant’s mother on separate charges.

On Wednesday, Stephanie Marques, of Malvern Street, was charged with child neglect and obstructing a police investigation, Pawtucket Police said in a press release. She was being held pending an arraignment on Thursday in Providence District Court.
Police declined to release the details surrounding the charges.

The couple, who had been living together in an apartment on Malvern Street, are also the parents of a two-year-old daughter. Police said the state Department of Children, Youth and Families has ensured the safety of the older child.

PROVIDENCE—A Pawtucket woman whose baby girl is hospitalized with a fractured skull and facial injuries was released on personal recognizance Thursday.

Stephanie Marques, 21, was arraigned in Providence District Court on charges of child neglect and obstructing a police investigation. She was ordered to have no contact with the child. She’s due to return to court in December.

The baby’s father, Michael Patriquin, 23, was charged with first-degree child abuse. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail following his arraignment.

Police were called in when the 18-day-old baby was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital last weekend with two skull fractures. The baby is expected to recover.

The state Department of Children and Youth and Family has taken custody of the couple’s 2-year-old child.
