MADISON TOWNSHIP — A Lorain man was arrested Thursday evening after fleeing a Wal-Mart store in eastern Lake County with a digital camera he is accused of shoplifting, according to a Madison Township detective.
Jose M. Diaz Jr., 35, of 1830 East 29th St., Lorain, was seen picking up and concealing a digital camera at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 6067 North Ridge Road, Madison Township, by the store's security personnel, according to Madison Township Police Det. Dan Boerner.
Diaz was with another male in the store, and the pair were acting suspiciously, Boerner said.
"Diaz was seen concealing a camera in his clothing," Boerner said. "He walked out the grocery side of the store, and his partner went out the other side of the store."
As Wal-Mart personnel attempted to stop Diaz, he ran into a sliding glass door, sustaining cuts on his head, Boerner said.
"He then kicked at (the security officer), got back up, and ran into a cement post in the parking lot in front of the store," Boerner said. Diaz was stopped by security people and surrendered the digital camera to them, according to Boerner. Wal-Mart staff held him at the store until Madison police officers arrived.
