Investigators arrested Cory Lamar Witherspoon, 17, on Friday, and charged him with first-degree rape, said Sgt. Michael Chaisson of the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s juvenile division. He was charged as an adult.
Witherspoon’s sister told police she left her daughter with Witherspoon at a residence in the 1700 block of 40th Avenue on Oct. 11. She returned 10 minutes later and found evidence of a sexual attack, Chaisson said. No further details will be released regarding the attack, he said.
Witherspoon fled the home when his sister arrived, Chaisson said. Officers found him in the 3300 block of 15th Street a short time later. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center on a probation violation where he remained until Friday. Witherspoon was at the Tuscaloosa County Jail Monday morning with bail set at $20,000. He has been ordered by a judge to stay away from the girl and her residence if he is bailed out of jail, Chaisson said.
