SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Jamison Adsit, 23, has been charged with a second degree criminal sexual act. Police say he was alone with the patient in her room when the assault took place.
The incident happened last Thursday night around 11 p.m. Police say an employee sent in to relieve Adsit witnessed him sexually assaulting the patient.
Adsit is not directly employed by Crouse Hospital. He was employed by Express Staffing, which contracts temporary employees through the hospital. The woman who was assaulted had only been at the hospital a short time and Adsit was working as her safety companion.
Syracuse Police are investigating a sexual assault at Crouse Hospital. Police say a 45-year-old woman of diminished mental capacity was assaulted by her "safety companion." Our Katie Morse spoke with police earlier and has more.
"A safety companion is someone who's described to be someone who sits with patients of diminished mental capacity. The person is basically there to ensure their safety and to report anything unusual to the nursing staff," said Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan.
Adsit was arrested Monday and police say he did make some admissions of the crime. At this point, they say there are no other reports that this could have happened with any other patients.
