Helen Philpot is a liberal old woman. And I love her.

I was going to put this in my blog, but thought Three Things would be a little better suited.

Helen Philpot is an 82 year old woman in Austin, TX. She lives with Harold and has 3 children and many grandchildren.

Up until a few weeks ago, she blogged only to keep in touch with her best friend Margaret who lives in Maine. They met in college 60 years ago.

She was writing about sunsets, racoons, Lady Bird Johnson, and New York City. Then Sarah Palin came on the scene, and well, ol' Helen didn't approve. She joined the masses and wrote a blog called, "Sarah Palin is a bitch."

Her latest blog about last night's debate is called, "Maverick My Ass!"

My favorite part of this particular blog entry:

You just can’t teach an old dog a new trick… even if you put lipstick on it. Change is needed. I know because I am a fat, old dog. For too many years I’ve been eating more pie than I should. Jenny Craig had me doing pretty good for a few years but eventually I started eating pie again. John McCain has been part of the Republican party in Washington for 26 years. It doesn’t matter what he has been saying the last few months, eventually he’s going to eat the party pie again. He’s old. I’m old. That’s what we do. We don’t suddenly switch to salad.

It’s OK. We’ve been part of the greatest generation. We had our turn. Now we get to sit back and enjoy our pie while someone else worries about the calories. The new guy has the energy and the new ideas. Senator Obama, I hope you’re up for the challenge.

I would think this was fake if it weren't for the older blogs. The best part? The comments. Especially from McCain supporters. You have to read it all. Just. Wonderful.

Oh, yes, I love Helen she has the gusto I hope I will have in my old age! I think she was quoted a time or two by the Austin American Statesman in a community speaks column.
I believe she was friends with Lady Bird Johnson.
