Since the Canadian debate is tonight too (haha...total losers up there

) I found this! Keep it in mind when you watch the debate:
Dos and Don'ts of TV Debates
THE EXPERTS:
Melanie Novis, author of Canadian Public Speaking and instructor of professional speech and communication coach at the University of Toronto.
Shannon Smith, founder of Premiere Image International, a Toronto-based corporate image consulting firm.
Arlene Bradley, Montreal-based business etiquette and protocol consultant.
ATTIRE
"Don't wear all black or all white, it drains the colour out of your face."
– Novis
"Suits and power ties for the men, a well-fitted suit for May as well. I would suggest that Layton lose the moustache – facial hair is a barrier to communication. May and Dion should also lose the glasses because they create a glare on television."
– Smith
"Go conservative (small 'c'). You can't go wrong with simple. You want to look clean, cool and crisp. And no jewellery!"
– Bradley
POSTURE AND BODY LANGUAGE
"Crossing your arms can be seen as defensive, cutting off your audience. Imagine your arms are like empty coat sleeves hanging on the hanger, it helps you to relax."
– Novis
"Hand gestures should always be above the waist. If they are below the waist it's a negative attitude. Don't flail your arms around. Keep your elbows in close, and your hands up. It shows energy and passion, but doesn't distract from the message."
– Smith
"Shuffling on either foot or leaning over the microphone presents a negative image, like you're not in control."
– Bradley
ETIQUETTE
"Don't point. People don't like to be pointed at, it's too authoritative. Instead, extend your hand and turn the palm upwards."
– Novis
"Have some grace. Don't interrupt."
– Smith
"If you interrupt, it shows you as being an impatient person. It doesn't do you much good."
– Bradley
