DALLAS -- A father threw his 2-month-old baby into a 3-foot-deep construction hole Friday in Dallas, witnesses told police.
Dondrake Jackson, 31, came out of his house with the baby and just walked across the street and threw her into the hole, witnesses said.
Construction workers who were replacing water mains in the neighborhood said they saw the whole thing and they grabbed Jackson and held him until police arrived.
"We thought she was probably going to hit the cement, but good thing she didn't," said one witness, Gerson Morales. "She just landed on the dirt."
Morales said he couldn't believe his own eyes. "He actually leaned back to throw her," Morales said. "The baby went inside the hole." "He actually came back. I guess he tried to take her out -- I don't know what he tried doing, but we didn't let him go inside the hole. We took him out before he got in there and that's when we just tackled him down, he tried fighting back."
Paramedics took the crying infant to Children's Medical Center. Late Friday afternoon the infant's grandmother, Tammy Valdespino said the baby had a few scratches and bruises and was wearing a neck brace, but was doing well.
Jessica Porter,the child's mother, was in shock and said the father was supposed to be watching the baby and an older child.
Police said they do not know why Jackson threw the child into the hole. He was arrested and taken into the child abuse office for questioning, police said. Jackson may possibly face injury to a child charges, police said.
"We don't want to try to be with him," Jessica Porter said. "I want to press charges on him, I want him to go to prison."
