Debra Chappell & James Seevers have a filthy home

LEESBURG, Fla. -- Thousands of cockroaches rained down on an officer and were spotted crawling over an infant inside a Central Florida house of filth.

Officers checking the home of Debra Chappell and James Seevers in Leesburg found the couple and a 2-year-old living in the home described as not being fit for animals.

The report described thousands of cockroaches swarming inside the structure. An officer wrote that he had to jump back when he opened a refrigerator because of the number of "roaches that rained down on him."
Roaches were also inside the cupboards and crawling all over the child in her crib.

Photographs showed soiled diapers, clothes and other items covering the home.

There was no ventilation inside the home, only two fans.

The police report said that a sickly smell surrounded the outside of the structure.

Local 6 showed inside images of a sink full of dirty dishes and a floor so covered in debris that the officers said they could barely walk through the home.

The 2-year-old was removed from the home and her parents, Chappell and Seevers, were taken into custody. It is believed that the family had only lived in the home for about four months.

You know, I'm not familiar with WoW at all- I know it stands for World of Warcraft (I think?) and that it's a video game of some sort. But I'm starting to think it should be banned (or at least, banned for parents). Because this game keeps popping up in child neglect stories like crazy- must be hella addictive! i've lived in some pretty sub-standard places, but *never* did they look like this. Oh MY GODS! i think someone needs to step away from the videogames for the rest of their lives.. good lord, how does someone sleep in conditions like this? ugh! i'm glad the baby was removed from the home.

I have lived in empty houses when I was homeless and they were better than this. Come the hell on This woman is home ALL day long and looks perfectly capable physically to be cleaning.
They were in that house only 4 Months.
Wow wait till that landlord watches his house on the news. Talk about a eviction notice waiting to happen.

Please let them have some normal family who are not addicted to games and who can in fact care for this baby.

i'm with you on this one... even when i was recovering from major surgery, then had the car accident (was bed bound for several months) my house never got that bad. my husband worked full time but he did what he could to help keep the house in a decent state. and it doesn't take much, really.

I can understand the whole, "I need to do the dishes. Fuck it, I'll do them later." But y'know, when there are thousands of cockroaches crawling around the house and on the baby, you'd think something would click that it's time to take immediate action.

Any news on Why the police were checking the home?

I think another article I read stated that they were checking on the welfare of the 2 year old. House smelled bad enough that it bugged the neighbors....

Saw a comment, had to respond...

Like video game crack.
Any video game can be addicting, not just WoW. Even before WoW there were a lot of stories about SWG, FFXI, Diablo/II, Everquest, and DAOC. There are a ton of pages naming named "gamename Widow" dedicated to spouses/families that have been ignored because of games. It all depends on who is the one playing it. I became addicted myself prior to having kids, but it ended fast for me.

However, since I AM a fan of WoW with 2 kids myself (a 2 yr old and 2month old) I see no problem with being able to run a household, manage the kids, the bills, scheduling, answering military phone calls, and everything else I do while I play (hubby says I'm too obsessed over doing everything in the dang house - so don't even bother telling me to slow my roll down a bit lol). WoW is a great game to escape into while the kids are napping and the dishes are running.

The problem REALLY lies with the person. I love my kids like they are a part of me still, so they always come first. I'm willing to step away from my computer, hence why I mainly post at night when they sleep. Others are like "just let me finish this instance", which could take hours.

My final thought on this would be: IF it was a problem to begin with, when you introduce games into your life (especially real time games like WoW) the problems become worse. For example cleaning goes unchecked for days in some gamers houses or clothes don't get washed. I've spoken to many serious gamers and it's like this.

Not in my house though. I'm anal retentive about dirt. Hate it and always have that damn thought "what can I clean today?". So bad that Jiffy has been telling me he's gonna send me to a spa for a day so I won't be constantly cleaning around him.

I'm betting it's in a high mold-area like I am. I'm bleaching and de-molding my bathroom and windows every other week. Since the apartment was in such a deplorable state, no doubt the "fumes" of it all attributed as well. I can totally see this happening in less than 4 months.
