Victoria Meeks put her 3-year-old in the hospital

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndid=358367209 "Victoria is at the hospital bc Ava had surgery."

Well, Ava had surgery because her mother hurt her.

BELLE PLAINE - A Belle Plaine woman is being accused of abusing her 3-year-old daughter after doctors at University Hospitals treated her for a suspicious skull fracture.

Victoria Marie Meeks, 22, was arrested Wednesday at the University of Iowa Police Department in Iowa City by the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, Benton County investigators were notified of the suspicious injury. They determined Meeks caused the injury by using excessive force while putting the child on a hardwood floor in her home.

Meeks was charged with Child Endangerment and assault causing serious injury. If convicted on both charges, she faces up to 15 years in prison and a $17,500 fine. Meeks made an initial appearance in Magistrate Court on the charges Wednesday and was released under the supervision of the Department of Corrections.

Why does the other case where the child was repeatedly dropped on her head come to mind?

    Stupid cunt.

I front-paged this one, because any time there is surgery involved in a head injury, it's a bad head injury.

Horrid mother. Just bang her head on the floor a couple times and solve the problem.

Imp, I think you're right. Maybe Nurseronda can add some insight here--are little one's bones more likely to break? I thought they had softer bones, more pliable, would bruise before actually breaking?

When I was 16, I was in a horrendous car accident, another vehicle crossed the centerline and hit my friend and I head on. The other vehicle was doing almost 70 mph and set the engine of my friend's 1968 Olds 98 about 12 inches into our laps. (Thank god for cars made of steel) I had a head injury and spent a couple of days in the hospital--but, no surgery necessary. In comparison-- what kind of impact does it take to do this kind of damage to a 3 year old child?

She had her chance and she fucked it up. May this little angel be sent to someone who will Truely love her and protect her.
    Because ALL babies deserve that.

Enough to crack the skull in such a manner that there are missing pieces of skull requiring a metal or surgical plate of some sort be placed. And/Or requiring intervention because the brain is swelling and pressure must be taken off. Or a clot must be drained/removed.
About the same force as having ones head slammed into the windshield, at least 50 MPH.

Fucking Cunt! I'd like to slam HER head a few times.

From my brief stint of human anatomy and physiology in college...this is what I remember:

I recall that most of the bones in a newborns' head are not fully formed. Meaning, there ARE bones there however cartiladge (sp?) is in between the bones and the bones slowly fuse together over time. There is also very little fluid in between the skull and the bones/cartiladge. Therefore the brain is not really protected.

Because of this, the bones are obviously very small and easily breakable. Any too hard of a drop/bang could cause them to snap/break off causing serious head trauma. Since there's barely anything covering a baby's head really, it can cause some serious brain defects (such as shaken baby syndrome) if dropped/slammed/shaken/shoved.

Not only was the 3-year-old's injury bad enough to warrant surgery- they sent her to the state children's hospital in Iowa City (University of Iowa). This means that her injuries were so bad that the main 2 (decent-sized and modern) hospitals in Cedar Rapids could not accommodate her injuries. Darn HIPAA- I'd love to check and see how the little one is doing.

    Your tax dollars at work....

On 9/18/08 a court appointed public defender was assigned to Meeks at state expense. She's already out of jail with a no contact order in place- duh!
