(Ava, MO) -- Charges are now filed in a weekend shooting in Douglas County. Friends of the victim say it looks like a crime of passion.
Wendall Hillhouse, 42, was helping his new girlfriend move some vehicles for her ex-husband.
Authorities say all three were driving separate cars when the woman's ex-husband - James Hitchcock, 42 - pulled his vehicle over, acting like it had overheated.
The woman and Hillhouse stopped to help. That's when the woman says Hitchcock went back to the car, got a long gun, and shot Hillhouse.
Hitchcock then dragged the man's body to a nearby wooded area where he
reportedly hit the victim in the head with a baseball bat to make sure he was dead.
The woman who witnessed all of this reported the crime. That agency recovered the body on Saturday.
Now, Hillhouse's family is left to deal with the loss. The mother of his child says she's worried about her daughter.
"He was an amazing father," says Crystal Perry. "His kids meant everything to him.
He was a very Chevy man. He taught my kids Ford tough."
James Hitchcock is charged in Hillhouse's death. He's being held in the Howell County jail, but is expected to be extradited to Douglas County for an arraignment in Ava.
