BRUNSWICK, Ga. --A 20-year-old man suffered serious injuries when a female motorist hit him and dragged him nearly 400 feet under the wheels of a moving car, police said.
The man's brother accused the woman of chasing their car for more than a mile after a dispute in a parking lot, adding the man was hit outside a school where he had run to get help.
The woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and hit and run, said Brunswick police Sgt. Jesse Gibbs. He did not immediately have the woman's name.
The woman driving the car started chasing Josh Carlisle of Brunswick after she saw him leaving a discount store Thursday afternoon and accused him of having broken into her home, Carlisle's brother said.
Carlisle suffered head and chest injuries as well as a broken leg, said Daniel Carlisle, who pulled his injured brother over to the roadside and held him until police arrived.
"He was conscious, but crying and yelling in pain," said Daniel Carlisle, whose clothes were stained with his brother's blood.
Josh Carlisle was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he was in serious condition Friday.
Daniel Carlisle said they were leaving a Dollar General store when a woman and man accosted his brother in the parking lot. He said the woman punched Josh Carlisle in the face while her companion blamed him for burglarizing the woman's home.
Josh Carlisle denied the accusation and the brothers fled in a car, driven by Daniel Carlisle's girlfriend. The angry couple began chasing them in a blue Nissan Altima, Daniel Carlisle said.
He said they were chased for more than a mile while he and his brother looked for a police officer to stop for help. They stopped outside Brunswick High School, where Josh Carlisle ran from the car in hopes of finding an officer inside.
The pursuing Nissan also stopped and the male passenger got out to chase Josh Carlisle on foot, his brother said.
Daniel Carlisle said his brother slipped and fell on the pavement and his pursuer ran back to the Nissan, which the woman was driving.
"As soon as Josh fell and her boyfriend got in, she floored it and ran over Josh," said Danielle Carlberg, the girlfriend of Daniel Carlisle.
Police said he apparently got trapped behind one of the moving car's tires and was dragged nearly 400 feet.
