SOUTH CHARLESTON -- A woman who is in critical condition after allegedly being set on fire by her boyfriend stands a chance because she has been a fighter since the day she was born, her family said.

Police arrested suspect Farley Allen Rhodes, 31, of Third Avenue in South Charleston early this morning, and he has been transported to South Central Regional Jail. Rhodes was set to be arraigned on felony charges this morning.

The victim, Starlena "Star" Pratt, 28, also of Third Avenue, has been fighting the odds her entire life, her family said. She was born on a September day weighing in at 3 pounds 12 ounces. She beat the odds by surviving.

Byrnside said Pratt met Rhodes when they were in junior high and the two have had an on-and-off relationship since then.

Officials say Pratt, Rhodes and another man, Pratt's ex-boyfriend, David Stevens, went out Saturday night. At the end of the night, Pratt had decided that she would leave Rhodes, who she had been living with.

Pratt had gone into the house to gather her belongings when she came back out on fire.

Starlena's mother, Marcia Chandler, made the hardest decision a parent could ever make, to take her 28 year old daughter off life support and Starlena dies.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Farley Allen Rhodes, accused of setting his girlfriend on fire in August 2008, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and faces a possible life sentence.

Rhodes, 32, admitted to circuit court judge Charles King that he sprayed Starlena Pratt, 28, with lighter fluid and set her on fire at her apartment on Third Avenue in South Charleston. She died a month later in a Huntington burn unit.
