haparral resident, 19-year-old Richard Arzola, allegedly stabbed 21-year Nunez in the chest with a 12-inch knife, killing him.
"The stabbing was a result of a confrontation between the two earlier at a party. One individual backed into the car of another individual and that is what resulted in the stabbing," said Bo Nevarez of the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Dept.
According to witnesses, Nunez drove up to a large crowd. When he ran towards the crowd, he was stabbed. His cousin, Mark Morales saw it happen.
"Fernie was running into the crowd, and the next thing I saw was him fall to the ground. He was bleeding, "Morales said.
Nunez died on the way to the hospital, and now his friends and family are left with unanswered questions.
"I just lost not only my cousin but my really good friends. He was a great guy. He had a lot of friends. No one would want to hurt Fernie, nobody," Morales said.
Arzola was taken to the Dona Ana County jail and is facing murder charges. He is being held under a $50,000 bond.
